very SOLID phone

Dec 19, 2005 by fondoo

if your sick and tired of motorola phones, why not try nokia. i've had the nokia 2128i for a few weeks now and decided to upgrade it to the nokia 6236 and i was blown away. the sound quality is so much better in the 6236. it's a very SOLID phone that feels good in your hand. not like the nokia 2128 that creeks and doesnt feel solid. i wish i could get the picture ID working. i dont know why verizon would disable that feature, even though it should be included. the search continues! highly recommend this phone is you want to get away from the clamshell phones.

Waste of Time

I ordered this phone a few days ago from Verizon Wireless.. First of all the reception isnt the greatest.

Pros:
Camera is cool, it fixes blurry pics automaticaly.
Fm radio is clear
Phone is pretty thin
Cool toy (but you will hurt your brains if you use it a lot)
Menus take a while to learn
Reception is okay.

Cons:
Can barely make out what people are saying, just that the voice quality is Horrible.
No side menus (just volume)
incase of emergency (say your mom keeps calling you all the time) there isnt any quick button to put it to Silent.. you have to turn the Whole thing off.

I had to switch my phone back the the LG 6100, which has twice more reception than this Nokia.

Phone is cute, Voice quality is aweful !

We did a test tonight on the 6236i on the VZW network.

Called 10 people on the Nokia and then the V3C Razr and the Samsung a670.

Everyone on the other end agreed the RAZR and the A670 sounded great and the Nokia sounded aweful. They could not hear everything we said.

Nokia needs to clean this up. The 6256 sounds great , but this little candy bar is horrible !!!

Not That good

I just bought this phone and am not that happy with it .

The buttons are to small for a mans fingers.
The buttons are also very cheap. Pushing any one of the bottom 3 makes the other 2 move . [CHEAP]

There is also a low buzzing noise that comes from the speaker when the phone rings.

Kind of reminds me of my old motorola v220.

And although reception is good. It is not as good as my LG vx6100. That phone has a stub antenna. Phones with internal antennas won't
get as good reception as the external types.

This phone is going back.

don't buy

I bought the nokia 6236i and by the second day the picture id did not work and the ringer would not let my calls ring in.The buttons were cheesy and the joystick was impossible to use you needed tweezers to make it work. The camera had no flash and it had hardly any ring tones that you could download The phone would make a squealing noise every time i tried to make a call. The reception was the only thing good.

excellent phone

the reception in hard to get areas has been super. finally verizon came up with a good phone that doesnt break up in certain areas. Nokia has the additional aerial strength that these other carriers should adapt. the battery is super strong.dont care about camera, i want a phone that works. my best phone ever was the motorola star-tac.

Capable phone; terrible camera

I'm a Nokia fan, having had some pretty awful experiences (corroberated by others) with other brands. In addition, I like Nokia because they keep the user interface relatively consistent and they don't change battery chargers every three months!

So I was pleased to see Verizon offering Nokia again when I needed another line. I got the 6236i although I had no need for the camera and wasn't looking for one.

One VERY nice feature is the IR (infrared) port. I am able to transfer files between the phone and my laptop computer with very little effort. I've copied photos from the pohone and MIDI files to the phone. This feature is great. No cable needed!

On the negative side, the camera is nothing short of awful. As others have mentioned, the lag from the time of hitting the button to the time the image is captured is very long and causes you to miss the shot in many cases. Even worse, color is inconsistent and whole pixels are missing (white) in the resulting VGA files. They are missing at the same spot in every frame so I assume there's some fault in the CCD; however I've now seen two phones with this problem.

PROs: Good user interface (but see below); excellent audio quality; good reception; separate volume control; uses same battery and charger as other "candy bar" Nokias (and in fact the same charger as I use for my 1999 model!); speakerphone; IR (infrared) port

CONs: Terrible camera; no ability to program joystick; Verizon startup tone is extremely annoying; Volume control hard to adjust "by feel" while on a call

this phone is worth spending your money on it has good features and good camera too it also has excellent reception then other metro phones this is the best phone for me at first i had trouble with the joystick but ull get use to it if you have big fingers dont buy it! this fone has a good battery life i dont have to charge it every night anymore now i charge it every 2-3 days now and it has radio and video record you can pimp yo fone by changing the face plates and keypads if you want to also the menu bar is a little confusing at 1sr but as you use it more youll get use to is a lot and wont have trouble with it the size is great and the key pads arent bad they may seem loose but its all good they wont fall off if people think that thats y u also take care of it and not drop it
