v551 is good phone.....but

Nov 7, 2005 by pimpbillisback84

ok, so after my nokia 3300 i thought i would get a bluetooth enabled phone. wanted one with mp3 player but couldn't at the time find one that i thought was worth it as a phone and i wasn't looking for a full pda or "smartphone" as they are called.

i ended up getting the v551 since i knew its brother the v505 which was an at&t model was a good one i thought i'd try this one

and here's how it goes:

pros:

it's a moto (everyone loves moto even those who hate them still love them)

nice build firm body

camera (mines sucks) keep having to prosess returns. it makes my pics after i save them do that thing like in the movie (the ring) when it messes the face of anyone up who has watch the video on a pic

bluetooth

very modifyable

cons:

bluetooth a little spotty

camera takes nice pics but only when it want to

moto ce charger port still not the nicest thing but its been around

overall:

if looking for a mid-range phone with nice features i'd recommend getting this one.
but watch out some of them still have bugs.

Finally!

Well, after going through 4 of the Motorolla v400's, they finally just upgraded my phone to the v551 because every v400 I got had so many problems!

The v551 has been a very good phone.

F.Y.I. I have seen everyone complain about the menu being hard to navigate. That problem can be solved, your menu can be re-ordered to your convenience, you can also assign keys which is a very nice feature.

Overall, this has been a very good phone.

I got this phone since my Samsung s307 took a little swim in the lake. I love it. Love the camera phone and speaker phone. You can even create mixes of base tracks for personalized ring tones. Another plus is the optional Mobile Phone Tools software. This handy software lets you create your own wallpaper and mp3 ring tones. (I've downloaded about 20 tones to it and the software has already paid for itself.) Over all

Pros:
Great screen
Camera phones okay
Speaker phone
Motomixer
Faster Wireless Internet
Mobile Phone Tools
Video and voice recording

Cons:
Alot bigger and heavier than the 307 (I'll live)
Menus a little hard to navigate
Text entry a little difficult

Now if they could pack this into a phone the size of the 307 I would be thrilled.

This phone is okay, but nothing more.

Pros:
-Video Recording is fun but loads slow and takes about a full minute to save (during which you can't close the phone or else it's lost).
-The camera has decent quality when the lens is clean. I point out that it's only when it's clean because if you keep this phone in your pocket or purse, lint will get on the lens and it's pretty hard to clean off since the lens goes inward (you'll understand when you look at the phone).
-The internal display is beautiful. They did a really good job making it look good.
-The keys press easily.
-You can change the ring style with the flap closed.

Cons:
-The reception is mediocre.
-The bluetooth is AWEFUL. It's almost impossible to get it working long enough to transfer a file.
-No vibrating and ringing at the same time [I hatehatehate this about Motorola phones]
-You have to charge the phone at least every other day if you use it to make any phone calls.
-iTap instead of T9 predictive text.

Okay the biggest con for me is what made me decide to switch to a Sony Ericsson Z500a. The phone is SO LAGGY. When you're typing out a text message with predictive text, you have to pause typing every couple seconds to wait for the phone to catch up to your words. Scrolling through the phonebook is a nightmare, ESPECIALLY if you have the list set up to show the persons picture. I just hate Motorola for not beefing up their processors.

Overall, this phone is the best one I have had. I will just list the basic pros and cons below.

PROs:

Reception
Call Quality
Screen (very clear)
Camera/Video (very clear)
Covers (blue with silver-keeps from sliding)
Battery Life
Programs on the phone are very useful

CONs:

There are about 4 polyphonic/midi ringtones loaded on the phone. But, you can download them from Cingular MEdia for about $1.99!

Good for the price

Jun 18, 2005 by lilldipper

I would give this phone a 5 but i can't because i have had this phone for only 4 days and i have had more drop calls in 4 days than i had on my nokia 3595 in a year and also the volume on the phone gets really low sometimes and i have to stop the call and turn the volume up to 7 and sometimes that dose not even help. the manual on the phone is terrible and the customer service is a joke. other than those few problems i think that Motorola has made a good phone for the price. i am with cingular and i get a pretty good signal where i live (lower michigan. the battery life is decent i get around 4 hours of talk time before i need to charge it and that is with useing the camera.
PROS:
Good solid phone
nice bright screen
camera works great
easy to use
cheap
cool looking
CONS:
battery life could be better
volume could be louder
menu needs serious help
signal could be better (cingular)
drop calls need to stop
overall i would reccomend this phone for the person who likes fancy phones but if you are into a phone just for a phone than go with a nokia 3595 or better

Love the V330

Jun 18, 2005 by hwg00

Just got the v330 from T-Mobile. Great phone.

Pros:
Nice Screen
Easy to Use
Great Reception
Great Camera
Bluetooth
Speakerphone
Quad Band for Global Travel

Cons:
Seems to be a slight delay when punching in keys for voice command systems (v-mail etc.) nothing of concern, though
Blue color a litte drab

Use to have the Razr - also a very good phone (actually the two work identically)but had some very minor compatibility issues w/T-Mobile since it was not set up for it. Gave it to a friend.

Cingular Tech Employee

This phone is a very good phone for the features that it offers customers, on the Cingular Network. I am going to try an explain the pros/cons of this phone -- as well as add some interesting side notes to the Cingular Network.

First I am going to talk about GSM and the Cingular Network. The network itself has not changed since the merger of AT&T Wireless and Cingular. If you were BLUE or ORANGE - you still only connect primarily to BLUE or ORANGE towers. This is a common thing that Cingular itself has included all towers available to all it's customer's since the merger. NO--WRONG--and not even customer service knows this. The only state scheduled for testing of the ALL-OVER-Network is Mississippi starting in July (which will be referred to as the GOLD NETWORK). Just so you know that when they take all the BLUE / ORANGE crap out of the way the network works vs the sim cards SID's etc... Your service will improve!

Now -- The Moto V551 -- is the best phone I have ever owned. Yes, it has it moments of low battery life and crackles on volume, but it does not crackle on speaker phone if the person who is talking is loud enough. (shrugs)

The phone is awesome all around - my only complaints are the low battery life and the phone book-

Other than that -- get the phone!

V551 is an Awesome Phone.

I've had this phone for about a week now, and have been very impressed. I would give it a 5.0 if not for the few cons.

CONS:
1)Recessed camera lens collects lint pretty easily (I really don't use it though).
2)Can lose reception at times, especially at my house, but I think it is due to network coverage, since every phone in my family does the same thing at our house.

PROS: (Plenty to go around)
1)Awesome phone, sturdy and just the right size for me.
2)Brilliant screen. The guy at the kiosk said Samsung's were the brightest, but I will have to disagree there.
3)Phone book layout is great. Some people haven't figured out how to use it yet, but once you do, it is very easy and intuitive, and you can add up to 4 numbers per name, and switch easily between the different entries.
4)Out side screen is perfect, becomes even easier to read in direct sunlight. Could have been a little longer to allow more of caller's information to show, but still a great feature.
5)Battery life is great, so long as you follow the initial charging suggestions. After you get the phone, you'll want to play with it before it charges fully. But take my advice, and let it charge.
6)Bluetooth is great. I haven't played around with it a whole bunch, but found my wife's phone quickly and easily, and data flow was smooth.
7)Smart key (lower button on left side) is great. Press up or down volume one time, then you can cycle through the different ring modes with no further noise. Great when in meetings or in quiet situations.
8)Love all of the different security features. You can lock the phone, or lock each application individually. This is great if you are prone to hitting buttons or applications accidentally.
9)Extremely customizable. Can find plenty of new faceplates and antennas on-line (try daydeal.com).

Get the phone on-line for a lot cheaper, and you won't be disappointed. Great looking phone, packed with loads of features.

Great Moto phone!

I just returned my Samsung e317 and bought the Motorola V551. I should have purchased this phone first.

It has everything I thought I would not use, but I do!

It's the BEST Motorola phone out there. (of course the V3 is way cool, but wasn't my liking)
