Overall good phone - I want the 6265!

Jul 26, 2006 by theyellowdart

I got one of these phones a few months ago with my upgrade credit. It has been out for a while, but the features of this phone are still impressive, and ultimately the radio and the famously unrestrained bluetooth won me over to get this instead of the Moto E815.

Overall, I have been happy with my choice.
My biggest complaint about this phone is the lack of EVDO and the small displays. However, once I put some wallpapers on the phone it made the inner display look much better. The ability to change the interface colors is nice, although being able to change the font color too would have been better.
This phone is a bit thick, and I wish the battery compartment was flat instead of bulged. Otherwise, I enjoy the design of the phone, particularly the keypad, and the various lighting and materials used.

The ability to use bluetooth in whatever way I want has been pretty nice so far. I haven't used it with a PC, but I have used it for moving files back and forth with some other phones, along with using it with bluetooth headsets, and it works like a charm.

The MMC card slot is located behind the battery. 2GB cards can be procured for a reasonable price from online shops. Unfortunately, the MP3 player is very limited and won't replace your IPOD.
The radio in this phone works ok, but it is difficult and inconvenient to get good reception with a headset for an antenna. Sound quality with both the radio and MP3 player is very good, however.

Lastly, the camera and video works ok, but resolution is low, and I find the compression even on "high" quality leaves some photos looking blotchy. The video will let you record as much as memory will allow, which is nice. Camera options are slim, but the default setting allows you to take decent photos in most conditions. The best thing is the lens location which keeps fingers out of the shot and the fairly strong flash.

Pros - Nice look inside, bluetooth, radio, hackability

Cons - displays, no EVDO

05 Toyota Prius

This phone works great with the bluetooth in my Toyota Prius. I had to enter all the contacts in one by one which was annoying though.
I like speaker phone, alarm, analog and camera on the 6256i.
I wish the phone book was easier to get into though.
Looks like it will be a great phone overall.
I have been waiting many months for a phone with analog and bluetooth and this is it!

Best Cdma Phone, Hands Down

Sep 2, 2005 by brian860

I work for and use verizon service, but they don't carry the phone (yet) so I got one elsewhere and activated it, (verizons bluetooth will be locked on the 6256i), short but sweet, I've owned close to thirty phones and this on is by far all around the best.....

Pros:
mp3 player is cool and easy to use given you have a bluetooth dongle, text messaging is nokia's standard setting easy t9 format, great service, decent camera, good speakerphone, unstaticy bluetooth (with the right headset), easy file transfer, great phonebook and menu feature (very customizable), full external display, good volume (rare for nokia), separate power button, awesome internal color, mmc expansion is easy to use and very useful, good charging port, can lock the keypad!!! And just nokias user friendliness....

Cons:
hinge is cheap (o well), battery sucks, can't customize or change soft keys, can't give individuals there own ringtone (only 5 groups), screen doesn't reset when you close the phone (can be handy, but annoying sometimes if your not used to it), can't record phone conversations with voice recorder, flash can't be set to always on, speakerphone can't be set to always on, can't change the brew button to a different function or any quick key, battery door poorly designed, it looks like a motocrapo t720......!!!!! All in all its the greatest phone I've ever used and I wouldn't give it up for a second liver

Finally a clamshell CDMA that's a Nokia!

I am using this phone on Verizon's network. This is an excellent Nokia clam shell phone with an excellent internal and exterior screen, even if its 65k. The speakerphone feature is great. It permits use, open or close. Bluetooth capability that hasn't been crippled because a carrier want to sell their merchandise. The phone has all the Nokia features that were available on the earliest Nokia phones. Your accessories for all your previous Nokia phones will work on this phone. Such as your car charger, travel charger, etc. The phone's construction is solid, but most enjoyable the fabulous reception the phone provides. The tri mode CDMA phone is an absolute joy. Sometimes in the middle of a call, I can't help taking a moment to look at the phone and reminding myself that I am on a CDMA, clamshell Nokia phone...finally.

Very Good Nokia but do read on

I have had ton of phones and my main attraction has been utility so far.
But lately I am as much a succor for style.

Utility : Nokia has done an extremely good job. They Ought to be commended for it. As far as utility goes this phone has just about everything I wanted. MP3, calendar, games, Email and (hold your breadth) a REALLY FUNCTIONAL BLUETOOTH.

Style : Nokia really needs to work on this end.

So far I have found everything to be very functional except (and NOKIA engineers pay heed here) the memory is limited. The Multimedia card is not directly written to using the builtin applications. And before anyone throws their 2 cents about it. You can set just about all applications to save whatever to the multi-media card BUT you can not receive a big file over the bluetooth link ( I am presuming IR too ). Why because the bluetooth writes to the builtin memory before offering the file to be saved. And before it saves it, it has to have all of it received.
Same issue with the video function. It needs to have captured the whole video before it will write it to whatever media.

I bought a gigabyte MMC and tried sending a big (10 mb) mp3 to the phone. It failed because the builtin memory could only recieve ~6mb before it ran out.

I have still given it 4.5 overall rating because for a change ( and THANK GOD for it) it has a really functional BlueTooth, just about all profiles that I want.
Folks believe me while I make the above statement. I have invested more than a couple of grands on Bluetooth stuff and I can list scores of bluetooth implementations which are crappy, non-functional, cumbersome, buggy and plain LIMITED (deliberately, Yuch!!!).
The phone recognised the Motorola BT headset right out of the box. PERFECT.
paired with BT (pda(s), computer(s), phones, etc.) Generic obex worked fine bothways. NICE.
The headphone voice was clear and loud.
I was able to answer the calls via the headset mostly(missed a few times).

It has its moments

I've had this phone for about a week now. My USB cable isn't here, so I'm not sure about its connectivity and customizability, but here's what I've noticed so far. Keep in mind I'm comparing it to a two-year-old LG VX4400, which I loved. I have U.S. Cellular for service.

Pros:

Pretty decent speaker phone.
Excellent predictive text.
Good call quality.
Good battery life.
Nice, large buttons.
Mostly intuitive menus.
Lots of built-in memory.
Feature-packed. (Bluetooth, FM, MP3, etc.)

Cons:

Center 5-way button is stiff; my fat thumb slips off and hits a direction.
Outside display is largely useless; no way to activate backlight with exterior button unless adjusting volume first.
Not very customizable.
Bulky and ugly.
Mediocre inside display.
BREW apps selection is poor right now.
Bottom row of buttons #-0-* creak.

Overall, it's a good phone with lots of features, but it's far from the perfect phone. A thinner, more customizable revision would be a big improvement.

8 Hour Review

Nov 24, 2005 by wireworld

I've been waiting for 8 months for the 6255 and finally got it w/ USCC. I've read every review and comment on it and my feeling is that its an incredible piece of work. It's not the prettiest thing I ever did see, yes its a little bit thick and I suppose it feels kind of cheap.

I've tried the Treo 650, but did not like its size (I carry the phone in my pocket) and I did not like that it was a PDA first and a phone second. Plus those carriers that have cut half the functions out of it.

I wanted a phone first, a synchable phone book second and a reasonably useful Datebook. I'm still figuring out the Nokia PC suite, but overall it appears I have good control. Now with those primary items covered through in bluetooth data transfer, fm radio, mp3 player, camera, video, voice recorder, voice dial, cames, email (though very limite) and you got one hell of a swiss army knife.

I bought a 1 gig MMC card off of ebay and it works great. The speaker on this thing is super. I'm listening to the random tunes now out of the speaker. There is a seperare speaker for your ear and another for loud applications. When a call came in, it stopped playing - perfect. As written on many posts the fm only works with wire plugged for antenna purposes.

Phone reception seems as good as other phones I've had, no better, no worse. I've not had enough time to figure out all the small quirks, but I have been through all the menus etc. Overall, if you are going to complain about this phone, you've got unrealistic expectations.....hopefully I am as pleased in two weeks.

Great Phone

Jul 21, 2005 by PTCO911

I originally purchased a Motorola V710 but was disappointed by the lack of full Bluetooth capability. The Nokia 6255i has full OBEX allowing me to transfer files be tween it and my PC. This is a painless operation once the two are paired.

PROs: Good speakerphone, changeable wallpapers, file transfer from PC to phone, ring tones volume excellent

CONs: The battery cover comes off too easily, the location of the shutter/talk button awkward,
