A Good Monster

May 26, 2005 by oceanzero

I think this is a good, if not great phone. It's a solid phone that gets great reception. And it's fun to play around with, once you get used to Sony Ericsson's menus.

I've heard this phone referred to as a "monster" by a customer who loved that he could drop it over and over again and it would still work afterwards.

PROs:
Call Quality
Reception
External LCD
Internal Antenna (i'll never go back)
LOUD Ringer
Nice Menu Layout (once you get used to it)
Animated Wallpapers
Clicks into Place (when opened)
Solid Build (looks cheap but it's not)
Loud Speakerphone
Huge Phone (i hate tiny phones)

CONs:
Battery Life
Difficult Texting (keys are hard to press)
Small Screen (for a such a big phone)

I own this and a Motorola V3 and nothing compares to that but I still love this phone. I don't have to worry about it because it's inexpensive, yet built to last. When I have my Razr with me, I am always aware that $500 is in my pocket.

This phone is great

This phone is the best cell phone I have ever had... This phone is perfect for someone who has less then perfect hearing such as myself, the phone rings VERY loud and is the phone I have been searching for... It looks like a bulky phone but fits very comfortably in your hand... And all the features this phone carries are wonderful, the display is large... It looks like an expensive phone but is so very reasonable in the price department... I have had a lot of compliments on this phone and when asked how much I paid for it people do not believe me... They tell me it looks and has all the features of a 300.00 phone... I love this product and for once I have no reason to look for another phone... Thank you Sony for making such a wonderful affordable phone...

An overall great phone

I am very pleased with the new Sony Ericsson Z500a. It's by far better than my Motorola v220, which I had for nearly nine months.

This Z500a gets the best reception everywhere I need it. I was a little hesitant at first to purchase a Sony Ericsson, because I used to work for Cingular Wireless customer care and Sony's were the #1 phone our customers complained about.

Having been used to Motorola and Nokia mostly, I decided to try Sony Ericsson. I'm glad I did. I am more than happy with this phone. It does everything I want in a phone, only it's more affordable. I was going to get the Motorola v551, but I'm not pleased with its price and its overall userability.

The one thing I find difficult about the Sony is its meny navigation. It's quite different from any other phone I've used. But, that's my only qualm.

The main thing I'm concerned about is reception and voice quality. This phone has it and more.

Good phone for the Price

i've had this phone for about 2 months now and i love it. the interface was a little difficult to get used to (my last cingular phone was an antiquated nokia from 4 years ago). my other phone is a verizon LG and well...it's an LG. and i definitely prefer my Z500a.

PROS:

- video fuction it fun to use
- camera is surprisingly good
- sturdy design, doesn't feel like it's going to snap in two whenever you open it
- create your own ringtones
- EDGE tech makes it a hellofalot faster than most other phones
- battery life is good whether you use the camera or not
- LOUD speakerphone. works well while driving.
- you can do picture caller ID which is fun
- basically i'm still figuring out some of the cool thing this thing does. keeps me awake at work.

CONS:

- video gets a little blurry, especially for anything with bright lights, or if you're moving
- when you're making calls it has like this "loading" bar which is weird, because you're not downloading to call someone...
- sometimes it sort of "freezes"

all in all it's a great phone, and i would recommend it to anyone.

xoxo

This phone has been a PAIN in the BUTT! As soon as I receive my return labels it is going back to Cingular. Very poor reception (phone of Cingular?!), never able to send or receive pictures, lost calls, big and bulky, not many ringtones and some of the ones they did have were pretty dorky.

Finally Sony Ericsson made the flip phone. I have be with Cingular since 1999 then called Bell South. At that time I received the Ericsson phone and was very satisfied with my service and phone. I wait for Sony Ericsson to make the change and finally you did. Thank you for not forcing me to choose another product, because I have not had a bad experience with Sony Ericsson, ever.

Thank you,
Dorothy

Amazing Phone!

This is a great phone, I use it for business use, and it keeps up. It was great for it's price ($50.00CAN with a 3 Year Contract) Excellent for reception for a built-in Antenna. I love everything it has to offer.

little cons were once it was flipped open it answered, which is something I got use to, but not preferred, and there was no option to change it. The only other thing was I found the options a little complicated, you can get lost in that phone pretty quickly. I'm a computer technician, and still get lost in some of menus :P .. the other small thing was on the filtered list (where you can select who is allowed to call when in the profile) the limiting on the list was a downfall, and you couldn't select if 'unknowns' were allowed or not.

But I'm being really really picky above, I have gone through a lot of phones, and worked with many other phones, and nothing measures up to this one, and still get comments on it when people see it. It's an amazing phone, and I love it!

Great Job, and highly recommend if you're interested

Good but not quite there

I like this phone much better than many other phones I have had in the past, but the one thing that ruins it is its slow interface!
I hate that. There is allways a pause between a keypress and the action. That is why I only give it a 4. Otherwise, its excelent if you can stand its slow interface.

Not a bad phone

This is a pretty good phone. I really like its size. buttons are easy to push and the menus are pretty nice.
I have only had it for about 24 hours now but I already know that I am trading it up for another. The picture quality on the main screen is really fuzzy. My wife got a Samsung E317 and t is so much clearer. I love surfing on my phone but this one just doesn't have the picture clarity that I am looking for. Other than that I really did like it

Sony /E Z500 is a Great Phone

I moved from Suncom to Cingular, and have been very happy with this phone. The Cingular service in Charlottesville Virginia has been sketchy. The signal strength is great, but they have had to reset my account several times because they are having troubles with the SunCom to Cingular switch. I am hoping that those troubles have been worked out. The service is great ~when it works.

For the Sony Ericsson Z500a:

Pro's:
This phone is feature rich! The camera takes fine pictures for a VGA (640x480) camera phone.
Downloadable games and software applications are great. The ability of the screen on the front to show pictures is great. This means you can take a picture of yourself easily. It also means that when your phone rings it will show the picture of who's calling. (assuming that you have them in your phonebook)
The size of the phone is very comfortable in my hand. It is not as light as some phones, and I think that is a good thing.
The menu's and settings are good. You can set up all kinds of profiles and change many settings.
You can load MP3's to the phone for Ring tones or for fun. There is 6meg of total space for pictures, video's, files, applications and stuff.
The sound quality is good. I have had better. I use a Plantronics M110 headset often, and it works very well.
Battery Life is way better than my Motorola C350 ever was.
You can sync the phonebook and Calendar with outlook.

Con's:
You must get an adapter ($7.99 - Wal-Mart) in order to use a regular headset.
Sometimes the phone is slow to respond when you are moving through the menus.
Originally loaded ring tones are lame. I think this is a cingular thing, so you will spend $1.99 and up on theirs.

I would recomend this phone. I have owned many different cell phones, and so far this is my favorite.
