Got this T637 phone while waiting for S710

Feb 1, 2005 by vanillachild

Just got this phone today through Cingular and the phone is better than the sorry a$$ carrier.

It is a great entry level phone to start with, since I am waiting for the S710A to be released.
However, this phone has been a pleaser so far....I am truly suprised with all the features...I especially love the fact u can answer a call using your BT headset by simply saying a word or phrase!

The Pros-
Easy to use
Small, light weight
Nice look
Bluetooth is awseome and works like a breeze
AIM and Internet Browser
SMS
Voice-activated
Great sound

Cons-
No speakerphone (urrrr....)
No MP3
-Limited ringtones and no Real Tone ringer downloads
-Camera is the worst, especially after having a Nokia 6620
A litlle on the slow side
Not enough memory

Overall, if you do the basics on a phone....talk, text(not using Cingular at the moment), take pictures, send email, BT user, record sounds....this is the phone for u and it is also an excellent phone for the price.
I am noticing that SE phones are very reasonable.....I am happy overall....very happy!

pretty good.. HELLO ITS FREE

Jan 23, 2005 by munk3e

i think the phone is.. FREAKIN AWESOME.. maybe it's just cause i got a free car charger and free earpiece thing.. not mentioning the phone was free? lol wow good thing i waited.. got the phone free for cingular because of an upgrade.. cool little phone.. i'm a teen and maybe that's why i like it so much.. the call quality is good.. no one ever asked me to repeat what i said and i never asked anyone to do the same..

i dont understand a lot of thigns people complain about when speaking of this phone.. like.. "it only lasted three days " well duh.. what's the hassle of plugging the phone in at night when you're asleep?

"i wish it had better camera quality" .. come on... get a real camera then!

it's probably the best free phone you can get and it's a good phone

i recommend the phone to teens and younger people

service dependent feature

Jan 17, 2005 by motomaui

I have cingular, live in northern florida, had this fone 4 over a month and overall, this is a great phone, but there are many service dependent features. for example, thres an email client, but ya need internet, theres a camera- which is crappy and i no u cant expect much frm a phone, but its crappy even for a fone- but if u wanna send it 2 ur friends it needs the mms service. i previously had a v60ti color which was great, i could send short email without a service. i have had some majorbugs with this phone, itll get really slow doing basic stuff like goin thru the menu and i cant even recieve txt messages, which i could do perfectly fine without the service on my v60ti. ive called the cingular hotline And they said stuff that didnt make sence, not like using big words, but by not even being logical.
pros
batterylife: for a time I only had a car charger and only charged it once a week and it never went all the way down.

the ring tones are so awesome and the volume is really load, i hear it all arounbd the house

it may look like the key are really tiney but their curved so it ads more surface area and they're not that hard to get at

it looks so cool its deffinetly a chick magnet.

the alarm will work even iff the fone is off

games are fun and not cheasy like my other fone, but again ittl freeze up but if that happens, just remember, ittl come back.

cons
i bought it 4 80 friggen bucks and they wanted me to pay 300, and now its a friggen free fone! i felt like 1 of those ghetto ppl that can only afford those cheap fones, if they can afford 1 at all. UGGGGHHHHHH!

service dependent features, really kills ya

camera is really crappy. they have a "night mode" but it really only makes a decent picture in side with decent lighting. fyi, dont try to take a picture at night

i payed 100 friggen bucks for a blue tooth head set and followed the directions numerouse times and tryed different ways and it wont find it

Great Upgrade so far from T306

Jan 12, 2005 by sanman1000

This is my second Sony Ericsson phone. After the T306 I was thinking I was going to go back to the Nokia because that is what I had as my first phone. I did some research for about a week or so and was going for a Motorola and basically looking at all the phones with Bluetooth and a camera and whatever other bells n whistles they have. I chose the T637 because of the reviews were generally good and I still have confidence with a product that has Sony in it and for sure this phone so far seems nice. I had ATT and now it's cingular and by upgrading to new phone I had to switch over. No Choice! I had some trouble with getting the phone because they are in Kaos right now with the switch. I did get the phone and here is the list
Pros:
Great Color Screen
Buttons are easier to dial than T306
Bluetooth (haven't used yet but read good things)
Good call quality so far very clear ATT with GSM at home was dropping and making noises.
Camera is decent (not a digital Elph by any means but good with some adjustments
Voice Dial
Loud Ring signals
Great Price (free for me)

Cons:
No Speakerphone
Not many preloaded themes or wallpapers
They take a while to load sometimes on the themes

That's about it. I guess I'll find out more once I use it more. I think I'm going to be satisfied for a while on this phone.

Good to be back.

Back when I was with T Mobile I had a Sony Ericsson T610, then switched to Nextel and their more than primitive phones and unreliable service. Recently I switched to Cingular, bought the T637 online for $19.99 when they had a special going on and I couldnt be happier being back with a Sony Ericsson in my hands.

PRO's
-Small design, not bulky.
-Ringtone composer.
-Decent photos for a camera phone.
-Personal ringtones.
-Voice commands.
-Bluetooth for sending ringtones and images to my phone from my laptop for free. Also using Bluetooth to connect to the internet on my laptop using the t637 as a modem.
-Java Games.
-Built-in AIM.
-Battery life.
-Decent display.
-Easy to browse through menus.
-Loud ringtones (some of them at least)
-Supports animated images.

CON's
-No speakerphone.
-No MP3 support.
-Some ringtones may be very quiet.
-The built-in AIM, though nice, is very slow.
-Java Games become choppy if phone is plugged in to the charger.
-Menu sometimes freezes, always after changing themes.
-Cannot customize message alert.
-T9 text input does not remember words which arent pre-programmed into the phone.

All in all, I love the phone. Yes, there are many con's to it but there are just as many pro's. You can't expect much with a basic phone. I have not one complaint about the phone that would make me not want it. I plan to keep it for a long time to come, meaning up until Cingular releases the Sony Ericsson s710a =D

Great so far

PROS: Strong signal, battery life, size, screen resolution, construction

CONS: Default ringtones, camera quality

OVERALL: Great phone for the price

this is the phone!

Dec 3, 2004 by vicfly

have 2 moto v180 phones nokia 3100 moto 710 moto 720 many other but these are the only ones that compare.

the only complaint is the lack of a speaker phone

all other qualities are comparable to other phones and 70% better in most cases

have lots of research on the subject of phones and the phone I am looking forward to in a 800mhz band is the k700i that improves all the complaints in this forum with the exception of battery life that will be improved if you keep the bluetooth off!

After working for Verizon, Sprint, and now Cingular formerly AT&T this is by far the best brick phone yet.

Good Phone

Sony really got their stuff together for this phone. Sony had earned a rep for bad phones until the t610 and now this phone takes the improvements further. Very nice display screen and the polyphonic ringtone composeris awesome. If you could hear some of the masterpieces i've created. Reception is top notch as i live in a no service area and still get 2 bars.(cingular). GPRs connection is nice + quick. Bluetooth feature adds the finishing touches. The only real cons are the small speaker and no seperation between missed/dialed/received call logs. Plus the battery life isn't great. Otherwise a solI sell phones and this is the first one i recommend.
