DONT BUY THE V710

Sep 11, 2004 by chansaid

this phone is crap, false promises offered my motorola. 1.2 megapixel = looking through a blind man's eyes. This is definetly not worth your 300 bucks, your better off get th vx7000, do not waste you time with this phone. Only good thing about this phone is the reception cause it supports analog and digital signals. i repeat DO NOT BUY THE PHONE

Love it!

The phone has worked quite well with my Jabra 250 and my iPaq 5555, the camera is at least as good as others I've used previously, and the zoom works quite well. I've been very happy with the reception and access to data services in my area, and the screens are wonderful!

It also includes an HTML browser, something the V600 did NOT.

My only (minor) complaints would be:

* No games included with the phone. Need something to do in waiting rooms. ;-)

* The headset beeps instead of using a ring-tone through BT (and presumably other) headsets.

* The holster is mediocre, although functional

I've been waiting for this phone since it's announcement and FOR ONCE, I wasn't disappointed!

gets better everyday

easy to personalize anything from color to the menus to the phonebook. once set up very fast to get around. has all the features i could ask for, anything more you'll need a palm.

i am having trouble with syncing with my powerbook, but i'm sure apple is on top of it.

enjoy!

Paid Alltel way TOO much for this piece of junk. We're on our third battery in a little over a year. We've contacted Alltel via phone & in person & each time been assured the phone would work fine ( we are unable to get pass "call failed" in our local coverage area (due to constantly weak battery) even though we have "National coverage".

Not worth the Money

By way of history, this is my 6th motorola phone, beginning with the now famous and greatly missed startac generation.

It appears after selling the US population on the almost eternal benefits of their early phones, introducing the cellular generation to digital airways, and the benefits of flip phones, motorola has swayed to selling undependable junk with glossy ad campaigns designed to capture our attention and last just close enough to warranty expiration to avoid major recall or repair investments.

After 7 months of owning this V710, I have had it replaced under warranty twice, and have now experienced a 3rd failure in the recharger area. Evidently these phones have a weakness where the two-prong charger inserts at the bottom of the phone during travel or while sitting on the useless stand up home charger.

Symptoms are as follows: when attached to the charger (car or home) screen will flicker, then banner will indicate "No Service" - to Charge". It will allow the phone to power on, but if a call is attempted it will connect, blink then disconnect. That way your local service has the pleasure of charging you for the call Although it is never completed.

My service sent the phone to motorola who replaced it once under warranty. On the second phone's warranty check I received a letter denying warranty repair or replacement, however the phone was new. It appeared motorola had replaced the inner workings of the phone, and wrapped my now beat up casing on a new phone. This new phone worked perfectly for 6 weeks, then started giving me the signal mentioned above.

This is my last motorola. I'm not convinced by the flashy campaign motorola is playing for the buying public for the razor, as it no doubt consist of inferior product sold by an amazing advertising firm.

I can't beileve that anyone would pay 250 dollars for this phone, you should have shopped around cause I got the phone for free after 2 150 dollar mail-in-rebates. The offer is still around until dec 31. if someone is looking to get the phone, because for a free phone it really can't be beat

Not a good choice

Ok, I got this phone a week ago, the first day, i was really happy with it, but it soon dissatisfied me. First of all, VOICEMAIL. For the voicemail number, verizon tells you to use *86, but that doesn't work, it tells me that the number is wrong, and to check the number. So, i decided to just put my cell phone number in the voicemail # section. It works the first couple of times, then I'm back to where it's saying wrong number. So I'm guessing it has something to do with the phone not dialing the right number, b/c when I dial my cell phone # manually, it works fine. Another thing is the PICTURES, now I know, it's not a digital camera, but still, come on!! The picture quality is horrible, compared to my friends VX6100, the vx6100 is superb. Theres noo way that the 710 has 1.2 mega pixels. more like 100, or so it seems. Also, the phone freezes up, and you have to reset it by removing the battery.

For some people, this phone might be great, i mean, the screen is amazing, very clear. But if your into what I am, which everything has to be great, than don't buy this phone.

I bought this phone because of the name, MOTOROLA. But I hope you don't get fooled by the name. I am going to verizon tomorrow to switch to a LG VX7000. Thank God you can chose to keep the phone or not within 15 days. I hope this review is helpful.

at least its pretty

CONS:
crippled bluetooth support
absolutely horrible pictures
attrocious menu navigation
verizon leather case covers the deploreable camera lens when taking crappy pictures
hardly hear calls

PROS:
pretty, elite looking phone (consider it a shiny fresh looking turd)

I am now stupider for buying this piece of 5H!7.

this phone rocks

Basically, this phone is totally sweet and well worth the wait. I am very happy with my purchase and would encourage anyone who was looking to buy a phone to buy this one

V710, ABOUT TIME!

Aug 2, 2004 by justnogood

Just picked mine up last Friday from Radioshack. At first glance I thought, wow the menus remind me of my old V60. The user interface is not nearly as user friendly as the LG VX4400 I just came out of, but Bluetooth I wanted, so Bluetooth I got. It paired right up with my Tungsten T3 Palm, still haven't gotten my Jabra BT200 head set to work, and of course I'm dreading the BMW issues I heard so far. Got spoiled from the big rubber buttons on the LG, maybe the V710 was tested in the land of OZ ??? The camera is exactly what I expected, hey, a camera has no business being on a phone anyway. So we should be thankful for what we've got. I might be crazy but I actually think the battery life is pretty good. Most people obviously use the S**t out of their new phone the first weekend and go right to a forum on Monday morning and trash the phone for poor battery life. For those of you planning on using this Bluetooth with your BMW be mindful of the security issues. There is no password like other Bluetooth devices. If someone is within 10' of your car with a Bluetooth headset of their own, they'll get to hear about the 10 ki's your bringing up from Miami this weekend.
