I don't know what the carping is about, GREAT PHONE

Dec 1, 2004 by davepda

I read a lot of reviews and messages before getting this phone. I just don't see where any legitimate negativity would warrant the low scores it gets. I have the post-recall version, and I love this phone.

PROs
Easily used mobile phone tools (v 3.x upgrade online from 2.x) to sync calendar and contacts
Great call quality (Vz, Pacific NW)
Intuitive, very flexible interface
Loads of features (very customizable phone book, voice dialing, speakerphone, web browsing/email)
Nice loud speaker phone, earpiece, and ringer. Easy to navigate. Others say they can't tell I'm on a cell, and can't hear car noise etc.
Easy and good connection and voice dialing with Mo HS20 bluetooth headset.
Transflash is easy to use for file transfers (and TINY & cheap).
Light, small, feels good in the hand. Reasonably solid feel. Small and light.
Plays MP3s, and can use for ringtones

Cons (none is central to the important functions of a phone):
Camera blows (so what)
Bluetooth is limited to headset(so what)
BREW limits access to games (so what)
Battery is not super, but lasts two days of pretty heavy call/data/bluetooth use. Haven't tried the extended battery yet.
Mobile phone tools is not included ($40)and when you buy it, it needs immediate upgrade before it will work with the V710. At least the upgrade is free.
You're locked into VZ since this phone has no SIM card, and thus you also can't use it overseas. No alternative text input method.

I love this phone. It's easy to get wrapped up in this latest feature or that "would be nice" function, but honestly, for a business user, this is just a great phone. There's no meaningful function that it doesn't do and does well. It's ergnomically good, intuitive, and a good phone. Speakerphone is a useful for small groups or for "poor person's bluetooth" while driving or walking around the office while conversing. Data has been good, with access to most major web-based email systems. Yahoo! mail works great.

I love this phone.

Good product, lousy user interface

Nov 22, 2004 by look ma no wires

Fired up the V710 last week. Here's my findings
Very good RF performance.

Lousy User Interface - the menus are way too complicated, they need to copy the menus from Samsung or LG.

Camera - good zoom, decent quality for a camera phone, but only in daylight. Indoor and night photos are useless and the flash is nothing more than a flashlight good for finding your keys at night

Bluetooth - I've read everyone's reviews on this and I can't understand why everyone thinks that Verizon had anything to do with limiting the bluetooth functions. I am using the phone with a Sony Ericsson HCB-30 installed HF kit and it works flawlessly. No hitches in getting the two units to sync. I am also trying a Cardo Scala500 headset and that too works great. I suggest that those of you read to phone's owner's manual and the owner's manual for the other units you're using.

Audio quality through the earpiece/speaker is weak.

Phone is a bit large

Main LCD is great. Large and bright

Keypad is clunky and the round multifuntion nav button is too small. you keep hitting the end or send key trying to use it.

Battery door/plastics are junk. Too cheap a feel for such an expensive phone.

Overall a very good phone. About time we had Bluetooth in a CDMA phone.

OK but that is about it

I've been fairly impressed with the phone. It deffanly has the best sounding speaker phone I've ever heard.

Bluetooth is pretty nice even if crippled. I can get about 60' range out of it most of the time with the HS810 headset.

Transflash card is also neat... if you have a card reader(I already did.) (It does fill up fast though... a 512Mb or even 1Gb would not be a bad idea. Also, I would like to see a way to store the phonebook on the card.

I do wish that they would have left it where you could use the bluetooth to exchange data with your PC and phone. That would have been great.... it was also the main reason I brought the phone!!!!! I mean you see "Bluetooth" and you automatically assume that fuctionabilty would be there.

My only other complaint is that the phone crashes.... more often than it should. I really wish if the phone manufactures are going to make phones with all this stuff on them that makes them crash... I wish they could make them where when the phone does crash it would at least still be able to receive a phone call. Sort of a safe-mode... so to speak.(I have missed a few due to the crashing and me not knowing about it because the phone was lying on the table or was in my pocket!!!!!!!)

As for the camera tilt issue.... mine has it... it's about 5-7 degrees but I didn't notice it until it was mentioned in the forum. (I'm not returning mine at this time... heard to many things about the replacements being worse, etc. If I do return it... it will probally be based on the phone crashing!!!!!)

I had a T720 prior to this phone and I must say that I am somewhat disappointed that this phone seems to share some of the same problems that product had. (Does make me reconsider my phone manufacturer.)

Decent Phone Overall

Oct 20, 2004 by lt1vetteboy

I have had this phone for 3 weeks now. I would like to say that I have used almost every function of the phone now.

I have had no problems with dropped calls in the Columbus, OH area. For those fellow belt clip users out there, this has been my biggest complaint. Coming from a Nextel i90c, I find that this belt clip is very inefficient and I cannot view the time without removing the phone from the clip and turning it around.

Bluetooth functionality is excellent with my IPAQ (web surfing) and wireless headset. I am still pissed that Verizon disabled file transfer capability.

The voice recognition software is first rate; unlike anything I have ever seen in a phone before.

Pros:
- reception
- voice recognition
- size
- bluetooth (though no file transfer)

Cons:
- worthless belt clip
- disabled bluetooth functions thanks to VZW
- weak vibrate feature

Overall seems to be a pretty solid phone. Good luck finding a better phone with these features from Verizon.

V710 Rocks

Oct 2, 2004 by V710topalm

After reading the negative reviews last night, I was way down and ready to return the phone, however I decided to use it for 15 days and then decide. Well it took 1 day. This is a great phone and it has a camera. There are some negative thoughts on the camera, however I didn’t buy the phone for the camera. I bought it for the Bluetooth.

Pros:
Bluetooth works fine with the Palm T3 for Internet connection. However it does take some work to get it set up.
Sound is clear both on speaker-phone and ear piece.
Same size as my T720, which was an excellent phone.
Great Screen and it is usable in direct sunlight.
Comfortable to hold and use.
Buttons are easy to use.
Menus are straight foreword.
Voice commands are unbelievable.
Cell reception is excellent.
All the crap I bought for the T720 works with the V710.

Cons:
My finger is in every picture due to the lens location, Problem solved.
The cover screen sucks for the color of the background, numbers are fuzzy and it is just distracting and of no value, in fact I hate the background as it washes out the data displayed.
I haven’t been able to turn the flash on.

Conclusion. I like it a lot and compared to my last phone it is a good upgrade.
No I don’t work in the phone industry, I am an Aircraft mechanic.

Good luck
BTW I gave it a 5 because I don't know what a 10 will be

V710 from Suburbs of Detroit

Sep 28, 2004 by skipbl92

I bought my phone 1.5 weeks ago and it works great. When I say great I am basing that on my old phone (T720). I went up north (past Lansing) and I had great reception.

Pros:
Display
Ring Tone
Look & Feel
Reception

Cons:
Can't say that I have any

The earpiece was not an issue, the keypad was not an issue, scrolling through the menus was easy since it was similar to the T720.

I currently do not have a Bluetooth Headset or the TransFlash Memory; so I can't comment on either of them.

Overall the V710 is a great phone and a huge, huge step up from the T720.

Motorola V710

Sep 22, 2004 by Caesi1

I used to own a Motorola 720 and it was by far a very poor quality phone. I swore I would never get another Morotola as I went through 4 replacements before giving up and switching to an LG 4400. My LG 4400 was a really great phone and never gave me one day of trouble. After seeing the V710 and wanting the blue tooth technology, I figured by the reports on phone scoop I would give it a try. The Bluetooth is GREAT the phone in general is really good. I have had this phone over 3 weeks and have seen a few software issues on this phone that didn't work well. I had to do a master reset twice before getting it to work correctly. The screen would go black and all of my ring tones would screw up. But all and all it is a great phone.
I would like to see a few features they have not given this phone. 1. with the Trans Flash card I think this phone should allow you to back up my entire phone book on the
Trans Flash Card. 2. I think we should be able to use more then one blue tooth device on this phone without having to unload the first to set up the second. When I purchased the phone I ordered the Blue Tooth HS820 and also the Speaker at the same time. I They took my money but didn't inform me I could not use both. I had to unload one before I could use the other. Verizon Clean up your act teach your employees what the phone does and doesn't do before selling a customer these extra devices. I understand Motorola is working on these patches. Hope they respond to the markets needs. If you buy a V710 I feel you will like it a lot.

Verizon's Best Option

Sep 21, 2004 by xXx69

I dont know what the other people found bad about this phone, but its a very good phone.

PRO's
EXCELLENT RECEPTION-Crystal Clear (Well atleast here in NYC)
Huge Beautiful color screen-best screen i've seen so far for Verizon
Speaker Phone and voice dialing are amazingly clear and accurate
Camera-First off its a phone not a camera if you invested $500 on a phone for its camera, your ridiculous because you could of got an Olympus digital SLR for the same price you bought the phone. Its the best camera for a motorola phone though. Samsung phones are really the best camera phones.
Very nice selection of backgrounds to choose from

Cons
Bluetooth option- i guess that its not really a con until we get the software update and enables us to use the bluetooth to maximum capacity.

Otherwise its a great phone. It has the 3 ingredients for the perfect phone Reception, Ringtone Volume, and Service

Worth it

First off, I am upgrading to this phone from a brand new Samsung a670, a phone that I was looking forward to getting for over a month.

The first thing I noticed when i picked it up was how large it was...this alone almost drove me away from buying the phone, that and the fact that I've never been to hot on Motorola products....since I work at radio shack I have seen many problems with motos. Also, I have had samsung phones for a few years now and was used to the menu style...but after an hour or so of messing around with the 710 I told my self your an idiot if you don't get this phone. I got the Bluetooth headset and tried it out and that basically closed the sale for me.

Pros:
Voice recognition is AMAZING!!
Bluetooth ability is also key
Camera pics are high quality
Speaker phone is clear
Screen is very clear and detailed, reminds me of a Sayno screen and not a moto or samsung one
MP3 ringtones

Cons:
Size-it felt like a bring compared to my samsung but then you realize everything thats packed into this phone.
Camera-yea, ti was a pro for the quality but indoors the camera is worse then my samsung.

Overall, I give this phone a 4.5 the only thing that would make it a 5 is if it were about 12 oz lighter and the indoor pix were a bit better otherwise its the best phone on the market right now, PERIOD!

Ok one of the best...

Aug 3, 2004 by jbrown1028

Ok I am pretty tech Savoy... I have everything the latest and greatest. From the Palm 72, HP ze5570, Motorola Color Laser, Vonage, etc... I have also owned, (Sprint) VGA 1000, 8200, 7200, StarTac, Brick, Bag. (All-tel) Nokia 6200, Motorola something. (Verizon) v60, v120, T720, T730, VX6000, Samsung A610, A670 and now the v710. (Nextel) 3 different models, and many many more that I can not even think about.

From my list of phones that I have had. I believe this is the best of them. I like the fact I was able to sync with blue-tooth my PDA, Jabra headset, and laptop. Plus I just ordered the sync cable and software for this v710. I have the cigarette lighter, headset, and leather case. The screen is a bright and easy to read, I love the MP3 ring tones, and speaker phone is awesome. The Voice and digit dialing is the best I have seen, plus with all of the advantages of many other features. Simple things like cut and paste feature (less typing) and when creating your phone book it is simple to do mass category changes by selecting the category and adding all of the names you like quickly.

Many other features like the 1.2 meg camera is finally a blessing for Verizon, and the sleek look goes with any attire.

Not only that, you can easily make anybody envy just by pulling out the PDA and connecting to the Internet with a press of the stylus or even dialing a number is quick and simple.

Overall the phone is just a great piece of work, even for people like me that thought Motorola was dieing in the Cell industry.

Great work Moto... Keep it up.
