Not what i expected...

Aug 22, 2004 by Nitefury

I had been waiting for this phone since i first heard about it at the beginning of the summer. The 1.3 mega-pixel camera is a bust, In my opinion the pictures are/were better on my vox 8900. There is no flash on this camera... the 'light' does nothing. The bluetooth headset gets fuzzy about 10 feet away. Verizon does not support the Mp3 capabilities or the file sharing from your computer to the phone via bluetooth. 27% of the memory comes used when you get the phone and there is no way to delete it, as they are locked. The phone is slow when it comes to saving things and moving around. The phone is large in size. Like typical moto phones, the ring and vibrate is also a bust... it vibrates for 3 rings, and rings for one, leaving no option for ring and vibrate at the same time. However on the flip side, call clarity and the speakerphone are something to brag about with this phone. Ive never had a more loud and clear speakerphone. The video option is a fun option to have while your bored also. The overall appearance is (while large) sleek, and i fell in love with the way it looked, that was my initial attraction. I hope this review was useful and informative, if you have any questions please let me know.

Great Phone

Aug 4, 2004 by adam2788

I bought this phone from radio shack and I think its great. The only questions I have about it are I dont know if there is a way to use the speakerphone with the handset closed, if there is I cant figure it out, and the other question is how to get the mp3s onto the phone. Other than those I love the phone.

Lots of promises; few true.

Had this phone for one week and returned it. Too many negatives to justify; this phone is acceptable for those looking for a good-looking phone but are not discerning regarding performance, value and longevity.

CONS:
1. Bluetooth does not work with PC sync. Motorola says an update is coming in November; wrong answer. Only using bluetooth for handsfree is a waste unless you have a car with it built-in.

2. Camera takes the worst pictures of any 1 megapixel camera I have ever seen. Outdoor shots are fuzzy and murky at best. Indoor shots are grainy and dark. The flash functions more as a flashlight and has a small fraction of the illumination of a real strobe flash.

3. Earpiece volume is low and requires you to center the speaker over the ear. If you place the earpiece about one-quarter inch off-center of your ear, the earpiece volume is almost zero.

4. The case, having a large area of high-gloss black plastic scratches easily. When open, the top of the case rests against a rubber strip. Over time, particles that get on this rubber strip will scratch a 1/8" strip across the face right above the camera lens. With only one week of use I started to notice scratches there. With a few months of use, this will look very noticeably scratched.

5. The antenna is ridiculously flimsy when extended.

6. The holster barely holds the phone and points its face outward to accelerate the phone's face scratching.

7. The outer display resolution is very low and is useless when displaying a caller-ID photo; unbelievable.

8. The phone is uncomfortable in your hand when holding open.

PROS:
1. Speakerphone.
2. Inner display.
3. Plays MP3s.
4. Tri-mode.

coooool!!!!

Pros: Bluetooth, call quality, reception, speaker phone, loud ringer, screen.

Cons: Has camera (my company is cracking down on camera phones), wish volume was a little louder.

Very Disappointed.

I’ve been waiting for two months for this phone, and I’m returning it. The Camera quality is horrible, worthless unless in direct sunlight. Flash is non-existent. Menu system is awkward, Phone volume is low, Navigations buttons are too small. Waited 27 minutes for Tech support from Moto and they didn’t know anything, and were rude. This phone is just poorly designed and doesn’t perform as it should. Don’t buy this phone!

Problems for day 1

I got this phone at US Cellular. Bluetooth headset was included and sounded great on my end (but people I called said it sounded bad). Sound quality was very good in earpiece and on wired headset. Speakerphone sounded great on both ends. I didn't like the style that much, as every fingerprint shows up, and it was larger than some of the other, more stylish phones like the LG 6100. Within the first few 4 hours of having the phone, I started having serious problems with the phone.
I had this phone in my shirt pocket for a few hours, then tried to make a call, dialed, and the screen showed that it was connecting, and then connected. But there was absolutely no sound coming from the phone. Not a sound. So I called the phone, and the display showed it was receiving the call, but, I could hear no rings, and when I hit the Talk button, I could near nothing.
Then the phone froze up.
So I brought it back to the US Cell store, and the rep there said that will happen on that phone from time to time. They said they'd give me a new one, but I still might encounter that problem. I decided I couldn't live with a phone going dead for no reason--I could get calls and not even know I was getting them.
So, I returned it and got the LG 6100. There's no bluetooth, speakerphone does not sound quite as good, but it never freezes up, and my phone rings when people call me, and sound quality and reception excellent.

Pros:
--Excellent speakerphone--from both ends
--Good bluetooth reception from the callers end (but the person being called doesn't hear too well)
--Good sound quality and reception

Cons:
--Freezes up, requiring you to power off phone and restart--there's still bugs with this Motorola phone, and I'm very leary about Motorola's quality these days
--Using bluetooth headset, sound isn't good on the receiver caller's end.
--Somewhat large, and wasn't crazy about the way it looked
--Every fingerprint and smudge shows up

I'd stay away from this one.

Eh...could be worse

Not bad...good phone overall, but the crappy vibrate mode and echoe problems are just too much for me. I need a phone that can vibrate and ring at same time, just got used to that with my old LG. Not a bad phone overall...If i wasn't used to LG i would get this.

V710- the good and bad

PROS: excellent screen, reception, speakerphone; good keyboard- not all keys have same backlighting intensity

CONS: new voice-dialing USELESS if ANY names are not purely phonetically spelled .. forget it if you have many foreign friends or companies you deal with: won't recognize 'em !!! also the cam takes VERY grainy pictures ....

Not BAD but not GREAT!

First off - in response to VZWHottie's review, have you seen the Audiovox 9900? Now that's a superior phone. That phone is TOTALLY customizable.. in and out displays, all menus, even the menu icons can be custom (your own image). It has a one touch speakerphone/voice command. Video has great lighting capture. Camera is only VGA but is still more bright and crisp than v710 1meg. It has a one touch camera/video button (toggles between the two). And hands down, 9900 has the best screen resolution out there (for sure of all VZW). It boasts a 240x320 pixel display that is very crisp and bright.
Lastly - It is definitely the best priced phone out of all verizon's video phones. Unfortunately, the phone was seriously under-priced and their profit margin suffered. Of course they could not increase the price so the stop selling it. Too bad, it was the BEST so far.
I must say that I first had my eye on the Moto v710 because of design mostly. Got the AV 9900 because it was undeniably cheap and was on a Verizon special at the time.
I have a v710 now ONLY because the LCD busted on my AV 9900 and the Ins. Co. no longer had any to send me. I was glad when I heard that they were sending me a v710 until it arrived and I started learning it. I was like WOW, many disappointments. It couldn't even compare.
Ok, here is why I like the phone and then don't like it...

Pros:
-Great speaker phone volume and clarity.
-Bluethooth
-Design
-Large front display
-Ringers are loud
-MP3 capablity
-Memory card option for extra media storage
-Ring and vibrate together

Cons:
-Weak vibrate
-Can't customize front display
-2 seperate buttons for speaker & voice command
-no button for video (have to choose though menu)
-no preview option after capturing video
-poor color balance and quality of pics
(thank god I have a great digital Cam w/ video & audio capture)
-can't customize ringer for private/blocked #s
-poor battery life
-no option to keep back light on (no time out)

too expensive for what it really is.

I have been running an indirect wireless chain for over 3 years and have extensive knowledge about verizon, sprint, nextel, and tmobile. I am soon to leave this company so I figured I should get a cool phone before I go.

I really wanted the sanyo 5600 from sprint but it wasnt going to be out in time and I really wanted an mp3 player that wasnt an ipod so that and the expandable memory was my primary reason in buying this phone, and the fact that I got it super cheap (less than $100).

PROS:
-Very customisable. The entire menu. I rearranged mine to be more like my last phone to make life easier.
-Speaker-not very loud, too weak to use while driving. But apparently the person I speak to can hear me loud and clear.
-Reception: perhaps the most important aspect of a phone, simply amazing. Consistently gets better reception than my girlfriends 670, which works well anyways.
-Call clarity-best I've heard. Almost up to snuff with Sanyo.
-MP3 player-once figured out, super cool. Motorola also sells a rad headset that mutes music when receiving a call.
-Color screen is very sharp.

CONS:
-The camera quality sucks, big time, my girlfriends 670 is superior. Even when I turn the quality of the pic down a notch, it still sucks unless the lighting is perfect.

-Battery life-laughable. Browse on the internet a bit or play a game for a few and the phone will not make it through the day. Get the car charger.

-Bluetooh is sketch at best.

Overall, if you will have time to charge it at random parts of the day, and arent looking to buy a great camera or actually use bluetooth, its an excellent phone. IMO, its way too expensive for a lot of features that arent that great. A better buy once the price drops. If your looking for superior call quality and reception, look no further.
