Love it!

Aug 21, 2004 by UKFAN

I've had the phone for 2 weeks now, and love everything about it. I switched from "pretty good" T-Mobile coverage to GREAT Verizon coverage. Haven't found a dead spot yet, including crossing the many long bridges we have in the Tampa Bay area. The 820 headset works great, with accurate voice recognition. Have transferred many MP3s via the TF card, and still can't believe how small it is (I know, that's not Verizon/Moto, but still amazing!) The camera is "marginal" at best, but I wish it wasn't even there at all, as it causes problems at my office. Overall, I think it is ALOT of phone for $300.

GREAT Cell Phone

I've had this phone for over a week and I am AMAZED by all it can do! Previously I kept my StarTac because it had the best reception for any cell phone I had seen. However this V710 appears to be as good. I was told this is because it is a trimode phone. So far, love it!

Disappointed in Verizon Wireless

Sep 6, 2004 by Xtgirl

I think the basic functions are excellent. This phone has so many features that other phones don't have. But that being said......there must be thousands upon thousands of people who bought this phone specifically for the BLUETOOTH CAPABILITIES!!!!!!! Yeah, it's cool that I can use the headset, but how many people would have bought this phone if they knew that Verizon Wireless intentionally crippled the majority of the Bluetooth capabilities. I bought this phone to sync with my car.... Can I????? No... Why??? Because Verizon says its a "security risk". Let's get a little real. You can use a password or individually turn off the Bluetooth functions so there "business customers" will not have supposed "security issues".

That is soooooo just a bunch of crap and we all know it.

I have to tell you... this has seriously turned me off from Verizon Wireless... If they don't turn the bluetooth functions on after Motorola voluntarily hands it to them..this may be the very last phone I ever buy from Verizon Wireless. The way you are treating your customers lately is lousy... and sooner or later it will catch up to you regardless of the fact that you have the best network around. Sincerely, a former very loyal supporter of Verizon Wireless P.S. If you turn the bluetooth functions on, many of us will forgive you:)

Not worthy....

Aug 12, 2004 by PlayboyPenguin

This phone is not worthy of the V-series designation. I owned a V300, I loved my V300, this phone is no V300 (or V-anything in my mind). I bought this phone the other day and returned it the next in favor of my Samsung SCH-a670. The phone just feels very cheaply made (low quality) the plastics seem sub grade and the tolerences seem bad (how well and tightly the individual pieces of the phone fit together). Plus it was like having a brick in my pocket. The only redeeming features where the color displays and the loud ringer. That is the only reason it is getting a .5 from me. Here's hoping that the V260 will be a good phone.

Pros:
*Nice color displays
*loud ringer volume
*key pad layout

Cons:
*size
*quality
*camera (1.3 megapixel...yeah right)
*everything else

V710 is a disappointment

Jan 17, 2005 by jsb15

The phone had obvious firmware limitations on release but many calls to Motorola and Verizon led us to believe that this would be fixed with a flash upgrade. Now it appears that Verizon has no intenetion of doing this to protect their revenue streams for ringtones and screen savers. I couldn't care about any of these features but I did expect it to properly work with my bluetooth car and it doesn't and this is the reason I gave up my former carrier. All of us early adopters picked this phone with Bluetooth in mind and this is not really a bluetooth phone for anything other than using a headset. Had I known that this was not going to be resolved, I would have gotten a real Bluetooth phone like the V600 and now the Razr.

Also, the Verizon case sold for this phone is terrible and puts your phone at risk for damage from the poor attachment to the belt clip. DO NOT USE THIS CASE and instead go to ebay to get the Motorola OEM case or the Body Glove Case. Overall, the phone and Verizon's response to its customers is a disappointment.

Love It!

Everybody has hit their pros and cons.
I love this phone. I have had the a530 for 2 years. I hated the color, loved the size. But I'm a headset junkie. I have the HS820 and I can walk around my 2 story townhouse flawlessly.
I've used that little a530 so long this feels so big, but I'm loving it.
Talking to friends both the on V710's sound perfect.
Anyhow, I'm loving my new phone!

Motorola blew it.....

Ok I have been selling phones including verizon directly and indirectly for a total of about 2 years and Motorola has always been a dissapointment. The T720/730 and all the V-series had their fare share of common and not so common problems.

They all of the same charge/data port which needless to say is poorly designed and very susceptible to dirt and who knows what.
The 710 has the same cursed port.

They all have nearly the same funky menu style which when compared to LG and Samsung (and I have owned models of both) isn't nearly as user friendly.
The 710 has a very very similar menu.

It doesn't even feel like a solid phone. Its the most expensive non-PDA phone Verizon has ever carried and it feels like its been snapped together. The keypad feels really cheesy. The clip for it is also weak and doesn't even swivel.

I will give it that the screen is awesome, but not quite as clear as my 7000. The picture resolution is better but I dont see a huge difference in the video. I just got mine for my sales line 2 days ago before we even launch it on the 11th and I did play with it for a little bit and found out that despite phonescoop's stat of 3mins of recording that is not true, at least I looked everywhere to find a setting for it and on the "maximum" setting it wasnt even 30 seconds but I didnt time it.

The thing that pissed me off the most, I noticed after messing with it for a while my battery icon wasnt there so I got the charger out and hooked it up. Lo-and-behold it displayed the oh too common error message of "Unable to Charge". Turned out the next day it was the battery but I mean come on man, a phone that was supposed to redeem Motorola for all the headaches they have caused and the first day out of the box brand spanking new I have to replace the battery. I didn't have any high expectations at all about this phone only that maybe they did something right this time but yet again Motorola proved why LG and Samsung are better companies.

Great Phone

Just picked up the V710 and I think it's great. I've always liked Motorola phones and this one met my expectations. It's a bit larger than the V600, but it fits well in my hand.

-Great sound quality, better than my Audiovox 8900
-seems to get a better signal than the 8900
-Good key layout-easy to use.
-Camera is good, great for a quick pic (anyone who thinks a camera phone is going to produce pics of excellent quality is nuts.)
-easy menu and easy to program.
-easy to sinc - download Mobil Phone Tools from MOTO. Works great.

Not ready for prime time

My new V710 replaced a T720. I bought the V710 primarily because of Bluetooth. The camera is secondary. I'm less than pleased with the whole package and am considering returning the unit. Here are my impressions good and bad:

Pros:

1. Basic cell phone operation seems to be excellent. Tri mode is a real plus.
2. It's compatible with the power cables used in for the T720.
3. Even though I bought the phone at Radio Shack, the Verizon store was able to transfer my rather large phone book from the T720 to the V710. Radio Shack had no capability to do this.
4. Bluetooth headset support.

Cons: (and there are many!

1. Bluetooth does NOT support any sort of phone book or calendar synching. NONE. It only supports headset and dialing support with my Powerbook G4. This is not an Apple problem. It is not supported on the phone. It seems that you need a cable of some sort. Nobody at RS or Verizon seems to know. I expected that I could synch calendar and phone book. This is a major flaw in the V710.
2. The camera is marginal at best. Useless indoors.
3. The light on the camera doesn't do much and needs to be turned on over and over again for each shot.
4. The menu is quite simply a joke with many features and setup menus buried here and there. It's far from obvious. Many operations involve many keystrokes with that inexplicably use soft keys that require you to go side to side over and over again. Did they ever actually test this thing with real users? Or are we just a beta test.
5. Some information presented on the home screen top line is completely unexplained in any documentation. For instance, my phone shows "1X" on the top line. No explanation anywhere. What do I do with this?
6. Did I say Bluetooth is crippled?
7. The browser works, just. Web access with this thing is useless and slow. The wx radar image is VGA dithered down to make it completely unreadable.
