poor quality

I have had this phone for six months now. and it started turning off by itself. I had cigular send me a replacement. I guess Motorola did not do a good on this phone.

Reception is ok
as well as features for this entry level phone.

Just that the quality sucks

This phone is the worst phone I have ever seen.

cons:
-the external display broke on my phone after five months, while a friends broke less than two weeks after getting it.
-the reception on this phone is horrible, it is still fuzzy even when I have five bars, I have given up on making and receiving calls with it. another problem with the reception is that one minute I will have five bars and another I will have none.
-what we have coined the black screen of death at our house is also a problem, you open the phone and are greeted by a black screen. I have also had it open and then had the screen go black mid-dialing.
-the battery is slowly but surely dying, it is now down to charging it every night.
-sometimes the phone will not ring and just tell me I have missed a call
-the antenna is useless, I have a theory that it is simply a piece of hard plastic.
-the response time is sometimes slow, you will push a few buttons and a few seconds later the screen will finally start working.
-the back cover on my phone will fall off VERY easily, resulting in the battery falling out and then having to fight the phone into turning on again.
-We have a family plan with three phones on it, we can only keep three voicemails working at a time, I am not sure if this is a carrier problem or a phone problem.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy this phone, you will regret it. Keep in mind that the phone did work for a few months, so if that is all you are looking for, you are golden.

My beef with the V180 is that 'close' flip, does not 'end call'. I make and receive as many as 2500 calls a month.Most are under one minute. Some are made while driving and I always use my headset. One more than one occasion I have watched the seconds run on past the one minute into the next 'billable' minute. After I noticed this I did some experimenting, during UNMW time, and the timer went on into six(6) minutes before I had to take an incoming call. There is a switch that closes the display at the top of the keypad half of the phone. Don't tell me the 'chip' cannot be told to 'end call' at the same time. Fumbling to find the end call button while driving is not safe. I wonder which engineer got a promotion for adding this little glitch. Granted, even on user that make fewer calls just one billing unit in 100 can add up to some serious dollars, spread out over hundreds of thousands of users. Maybe they don't have enough revenue that this feature can compute to an extra weekend at St. Thomas for an (un-named) carrier executive.
I am in agreement that the V180 is way below the manufacturing standards I am accustomed to from Motorola. In my past life I was a vendor, supplier and consultant to this company and often marveled at their attention to product quality. They had a spare no reasonable expense to maintain the image as one of the finest manufacturers in their field.

pro's the only thing pro is the speaker phone and thats not that good i went from a v60i to this V180.
con's poor reception and dropped calls it shows a good signal AND THE CALLS FAIL WHEN YOU DIAL THIS IS VERY BAD

I'M SWITCHING SERVICE TO SPRINT


I love it!!!!

I have had this phone for 1 yr and have had no complaints. This phone has everything! Speakerphone, vibrate, custom rings, phonebook, calculator, calendar, alarm clock and games. It's not bulky and it looks nice too. I would recommend this phone to anyone!!!

This device is great for CALLING. Awesome speaker/ringer clarity, really good signal strenghth (Tulsa,OK), catch a game on it when you're bored...

it's not a superphone. You get a little color screen to zip through apps. Go to the web and check your email.

2 overall unbeatable outstanding features: battery life, call clarity//speaker

Everything else is pretty average.

This phone is GARBAGE !!! I would never suggest to someone to purchase this phone. There is so many cons about this phone, that I dont have the time to sit here and write about them.


Drops calls like crazy!

Nice compact style, but....

It drops calls like you wouldn't believe! I used it for 2 weeks, and it probably dropped 1/3 of my calls. Once, I was sitting in a chair in my house, with 4 bars, and it dropped the stupid call. Also looses the signal constantly while driving, along routes where my Nokia holds the signal no prob. (I know, nothing compares to Nokia for the signal...but still, dropping calls at 4 bars??!)

I was given this phone as a temporary phone while waiting for a V600 to come in from the dealer. I was going to get the V600, but changed my mind after this model, because I'm afraid the other Motorolas might be just as bad! I finally talked to a sales rep who knew his stuff, and he recommended Nokia's first, then Samsungs as second best, for keeping a signal.

Also the face plate was scratched up after my 2 weeks of GENTLE use.


V180 - worst I've ever owned

Of all the phones I've owned, from my first "car-phone" in 1990 through all the variations until now, this phone has been the worst. I have three V180 phones on a Cingular business plan, and no matter where I or my employees go in the US, I experience dropped calls, static, and overall very poor performance. I'm currently seeking alternatives from Cingular and will even pay for an upgrade to get rid of all three of these phones. Even the rep at Cingular told me that he got rid of his V180 for the same reasons... lots of dropped calls and poor reception. My employees complain daily about problems with the V180 and I hope that if you are reading this BEFORE buying or accepting a free V180 that you will strongly reconsider. The phone looks good, has lots of cute features, but it's worthless if you can't make reliable calls. My advice - skip the V180 and keep looking.


3 months and 3 problems

Pros:
The phone is sleek and pretty. It is small and fits nicely in my pocket.

Cons:
I have had the phone for 3 months and have experienced the following issues:
1) the plastic battery cover does not stay on. It constantly slips off.
2) the small display on the front of the phone that shows the time/ caller id cracked while sitting in my pocket. it is now unreadable. since carrying a phone in my pocket seems like normal wear to me, I assumed T-mobile would replace the phone. they wouldn't. evidentally, this type of issue invalidates the warranty.
3) the battery when the phone was new lasted about a week. now, with very minimal usage (less then an hour), the battery needs to be charged every 2 days.

these are all issues I would think would fall under the motorola warranty. unfortunately both t-mobile and motorola don't see it that way.
