AWESOME PHONE FOR THE PRICE

Dec 17, 2004 by rice-a-rolla

This phone has all the features of a high end phone with a fraction of the cost. I've tried several handsets and was even considering the RAZR3. However, when it came down to functionality and value, I could not refuse the Nokia 6230.

PROS -
Small and sleek. Not too flashy, but still stylish.
Voice quality is great.
The speakerphone is awesome.
The mp3 player is an ear catcher.
I haven't paired it with a bluetooth headset, but transferring pics/mp3s work seamlessly from my PC to my phone.

CONS -
The MMC card is located inside the phone which requires you to take off the back cover. This could be tricky, but is fine after you get used to it.
There's no standard radio jack/headset jack.

Best phone on the market right now.

Great Phone

Dec 12, 2004 by rich5861

I have owned the Nokia 6230 for about a month. I am on Cingular. I have to say it is the best cell phone I have ever owned. One of the main things I have been looking for in a cell phone is a phone with good reception and volume with great features. This phone has all of that! The reception is outstanding and the volume is very loud. In fact, at times I have had to lower the volume because it is so loud it hurts my ear.

So far this is what I would say...
...battery life great!
...speakerphone amazing! most people say it is hard to tell I am calling on speaker
...volume very loud!
...mp3 player good but still trying to figure out how to get songs in right format to work
FM radio Great reception!
PC sync...sync's great with Microsoft Outlook
Pictures...ok but I didn't really buy it for this feature.

Well I could go on and on. I have owned 3 other Nokia phones and 1 Samsung phone. This is by far the best phone I have ever owned. Highly Recommended!!!

Small phone with endless features!

You wonder how they can fit so many wonderful features in such a small phone? Well they did it somehow, my last phone was 3310 so I have no competitive phone to really compare to the 6230 but I can still tell you all the good things about it.

My favourite feature is the 32MB card, this is great for storing all the videos and pictures you take along with the mp3s, also upgradeable to a whopping 256MB card! The mp3 player is great, I download ringtones or edit my favourite songs using an mp3 altering program (Sound Forge). Although this is the one of the four minor problems I’ve faced, when you transfer across mp3s it’s difficult because your main 6MB phone shared memory is what it bases of what your phone can hold, so to get a 4MB mp3 you must have 4MB of 6MB free on you main phone since it doesn’t combine the 32MB card with it. The sound quality is great and setting mp3s as your ringtones is very neat! Earphones + playing mp3s has very good potential for future phones when the memory is upgraded, the quality of sound which comes out of the 6230 with earphones is purely amazing. The video quality isn’t great but it’s still good enough to give you a good idea of what’s happening, the quality also isn’t adjustable but what can you expect from a small phone, although you can take an amazing 4 minute video with great background sound. You can choose from the old style menu or the grid menu which is a great future. Although you can choose the colour theme you want you can’t choose the colour to some text unfortunately. The exterior of this phone looks very stylish and you will never be embarrassed to pull it out!

This phone is ever so close to perfect, it may sound like there a few problems but they’re only minor. If you don’t want the burden of a large phone but aren’t willing to sacrifice wonderful features this is the phone for you. They included bluetooth, infared and MMC which tops this phone off. This phone may be expensive but it worth every cent!

6230 Hits the mark

This is an excellent phone. I first purchased the Motorola E398 and decided to go with the Nokia after comparing the two.

Audio: Excellent audio characteristics, which afterall, are what is important in a phone. The auto-volume feature works very well and outgoing sound is clean and crisp without being over-kill.

Ergonomics: Excellent keypad, small but has a tad bit of weight to it making it a very nice phone to hold and use for talking or texting or surfing.

Features: Too many to list, but the camera, video, memory card, data, MMS, SMS, are all implemented very nicely and were easy to set up using TMobile here in the states.

Power: Battery life seems a bit on a light side for a nokia but thus far i've yet to have a problem with it. I charge my phones every night and never have any problems with doing so.

Visual: The screen is small, the same size as the 7250/6010/etc... but it is TFT and appears nice and crisp with decent color and clarity. The screen on the Moto E398 and my SE Z600 are better and bigger, but only by a small margin.

All in all a very nice phone and if you are using TMobile, I would highly recommend it!

Very Good, but Very Small

Jan 20, 2005 by waffletrip

Let me start off by saying that this phone has the most features for its size that I have seen to date. All of the features work great which is an even bigger plus.

Pros

-Bluetooth
-FM radio (Stereo)
-MMC expansion slot (32mb included, not hot- swappable)
-MP3 play back
-VGA camera with video, sound included
-EADGE
-Speaker phone
-Good reception
-Battery Life (under normal usage)

Cons

-Screen is small so you better have good eye site.

-Phone is very small which is a plus for some people but if you have big hands or lose things very easially then I would not recommend this phone.

-Five-way navigation is small and you need to pay attention to what you are doing because you can easially hit the wrong part.

-Graphics, ringtones and backgrounds it comes with suck so you will probably want to download new ones. Good thing for the MMC card to make file transfers easy but it would have been better if it was hot-swappable.

All in all, a very good product by nokia and for the price it is a pretty good buy too. Although, for those of us who like big, high resolution, screens and a larger sized keypad, I would probably learn towards something a bit bigger.

This is one of the best cells out there

This is one of the best cells you can get; I have done a lot of research before buying this phone. Any way I have had this phone for like 2 weeks and I luv it!

Pros

- Great camera easy to use, absolutely love it but if u want quality u still obviously need a digi cam
- Mp3 capability, who needs better midi ring tone chords as stated in a previous review when u can set your rings to an mp3
- Video playback and capture, take vids from your comp, on the road, and store them
- MMC slot, expandable memory - Up to 2 gigs of support so far no need for an mp3 player
- Fm radio
- SIZE
- Speaker is very load, u can actually see it on the right side of the phone, I just marvel at the phone when u turn up the mp3 and the speaker fills the room (it has to be relatively quiet of course)
-Call quality & speaker phone is clear and reception is great almost always full, I guess it has to do with your location as well
- Speaker phone quality of the speaker phone is one of the best, the thing is Nokia remembers the cell is a phone b4 they put all the rest of the gadgets
- Changeable faceplates u can never scratch the screen because u can always change the face plate unless you’re a real idiot or something
- Bluetooth, infrared, USB works like a dream, no probs!
- Games are good as well, not as good as Sony Ericsson
- Very customizable

Cons

- Very ugly menus compared to Sony, but it beats the Sony fone wit features
- No zoom while taking pics, only after u take the pic can u zoom
- Headset is badly placed, should have used a regular headphone jack
- No hot swap, if u want to change the mem. card u have to open it up and change it (but if u have a big card that’s no prob)
- Games can’t be installed on card wit Nokia suite, defeats the purpose of a card, but I think u can use another software program for this, if u find one email me thx

As for the alarm clock problem I'm not sure about that, but there are firmware updates I'm sure. Sorry about the long post, just had a lot to say!

Nokia 6230

Dec 11, 2004 by knvinvest

I never thought I would leave Verizon after being with them for 20 months. I switched over to Cingular and GSM this Monday and got the Nokia 6230 after extensive research on the phone. This phone is NICE!!!

Pros - Great size and weight
Reception is crystal clear!!!
Packed full of features
Speakerphone!! (something my Samsung at Verizon did not have)
Bluetooth
Cingular's ROLLOVER minutes is a great value!!

Cons - Back cover hard to remove

Other than that, so far so good. Had maybe one dropped call, but technology is not meant to be perfect. I get 3 bars in my house and reception is crystal clear.

Superb!

This is probably the best phone I've owned/used (I world for a wireless software company so I've played with pretty much every phone on the planet :) )

I won't repeat the other review comments below because they are spot on! For the size and price, this phone has just about every feature you'd want and has very few bugs.

Things that I really like:

- BT works great with PC, headset and PDA (as a modem)
- works great with T-Mobile (I bought it on vacation in Europe).
- Still camera is good enough for VGA
- Video camera works better than I expected

Things I don't like:

- Nokia's PC Suite is still clunky, but it works and syncs my Outlook
- The email client still can't handle HTML email which makes it useless.

Great phone!

Best Phone I've had in 3 years!!

Mar 21, 2006 by adamj91

I bought this phone about six months a go and everyone of my friends phone is no competition to this phone. Not even th raver or the rocker has it beat!! There is nothing on this phone that you can not do. The only thing I have a problem with is the screen being small but that is not a big deal. I would suggest this phone to anyone that wants to get it all out of a cell phone. This phone works better if you have cingular wireless.

6230 is Great

Jan 15, 2006 by mgroom

Pros
Bluetooth
Predictive text
speaker phone volume
ear speaker volume
no slip keypad
bright screen
it has a place for attaching a charm or wrist strap
dark color face and back plate
uses standard charger connection
typical Nokia menu (super easy to use)
camera is good
mp3 player
radio
basically any feature this phone has it rocks on!

Cons
battery life
the only thing its missing is a flashlight (i liked that option on the 3200)

This is a great phone! I have had many and am constantly searching for one that fits me perfectly and I think that search will cease, at least for a while! I have had almost every model of Nokia since the 5100 back in the day and I must say I will not try to go with any other brand again. I have always been disappointed with any other, and always pleased with NOKIA!
Although a little pricy this phone is well worth it!
