Perfect little phone

Nov 3, 2004 by SockMonkey

When I bought my wife a new phone last year (a Nokia 6200) I thought "This would be the perfect little phone if it just had Bluetooth"

Forward a year and I'm sitting here with my Nokia 6230. It's got everything I could need in a phone, Bluetooth, IR, camera, a good speaker and MP3 capability. I've found that this little phone has become a companion of sorts for me. I used to use a Palm Tungsten T and a Siemens S56, but I've now pared down to just one device, the 6230. I use the alarm feature to wake me up, I use the radio and MP3 feature to listen to music at the gym every morning, then I make some calls on the way to work (handsfree of course ;) ) and then sync my contacts and calendar with Outlook when I get to the office. I don't use the camera feature that much, but it is neat to have in a pinch, since I always carry my phone.

Since I always carry my phone, I've come to like small cell phones. My previous cell was the Siemens S56. This phone is within a millimeter or two of it's size and is just a few grams heavier.

I jumped on this phone the second it was released for my carrier (Cingular) because as I stated before, I loved the performance and size of my wife's 6200. I've always liked the RF performance of Nokia phones, and this one is the best I've had in that department. It tends to get and hold onto signal where my S56 did not.

I see myself keeping this phone for a few years, which in itself says a lot, as I tend to change phones often.

Nokia 6230b

This phone is very good. It has excellent ring tone since it comes out of the speaker. However, the earpiece sounds a little flat, to me anyway, at the highest volume setting. Not to worry. I just use the speaker since I'm somewhat hearing impaired. Otherwise its a great phone and I only had to pay $100 with a $50 rebate and a 1 year Cingular contract. Can't beat that! I understand there is a new firmware 4.43 My current firmware is 4.28. If anyone knows what the new firmware is supposed to correct, please let me know. My email is jakemt@aol.com.

Nokia 6230... best phone I've had!!

Best phone I have ever owned. Great display and functionability. Everything that I need in a small compact package. Speaker is good and loud. Nice solid phone. The only con that I have is the difficult to remove back cover, but with a phone like this I can overlook such a miner little detail like that.

Nokia's Back baby!

I have been forever a Nokia lover but since I had the 6590i, nokia hasn't had anything that jumped out and tested other manufactures. No 65k screen, no jam packed features in any phone. UNTIL NOW! The 6230b is a phone that makes proud now to say I have a nokia!
PROS:
-Speaker phone!
-MP3 playback
-Answering a call directly into speaker phone
-IR and BT! (IR is rare now for some reason)
-5point key pad
-EDGE for great wap speeds
-MP3 ringers and message beeps

CONS:
-No personalized ID's(only for groups)
-Cant place a call directly with speaker phone
-Nokias dreaded pop port
-Speaker isnt the loudest
-no shortcut lock the keys, MENU+*
-Battery life isn't Nokia-like.
-Picture Caller Id is a small thumbnail, not screen size
-Not able to change menu word colours. They are black, so if you have a dark background, can't see the menu words or caller id's

OVERALL THOUGH, one of the best phones out there. Don't hesitate to buy. I paid over 400 but it was well worth it.

The best so far

I picked up an unlocked 900\1800\1900 6230 in Amsterdam and am using it with T-Mobile USA. Different people have different requirements for mobile technology, but this is by far the best (GSM) phone for general use I have found. It is the smartest non-smart phone I have seen.

Pros:

- Size, small but not too small. Easily fits in shirt pocket (or purse for the ladies).

- Clean design, solid but not too heavy.

- Excellent RF performance. Nokia blows Mot and others away, and this is one of the best Nokia phones I have seen for RF performance (internal antenna).

- Great sound performance.

- Excellent BT implementation (with COM port included).

- Sharp, bright display.

- Nice keypad.

- Auto time update.

- MMC chip.

- Logical menus and phone book implementation.

- Excellent FM radio.

- Has IR port.

CONS

- A little tricky to set up SERVICES (GPRS), but once you figure it out it makes sense. Instructions not very clear.

- A little difficult to remove the back cover to get at the battery, SIM and MMC.

- No 2.5mm jack, only pop-port access.

- Battery life a little light, but not too bad given the size and phone functions being driven. Non-linear battery meter. Once you move off MAX indication, it drops rapidly.

Overall this is a great phone, I highly recommend it.

Nokia is the cell phone leader

i had 2 nokia phones before i tried out a samsung flip phone. i was wrong to stray from nokia. their user interface is so easy and clear, that it puts others to shame. others have complained about the center menu button, however, i have had no problems with it and found it easier to use than previous nokia models. the screen is bright and easy to read in the daylight. this phone is a definite buy. this phone offers a wide variety of ringtones and backgrounds to offer the widest array of personalization for your phone.

only phone better is 6230i lol

This phone is just about perfect. And it's way affordable and is worth every dollar.

Pros:

- camera, they usually suck on phones this one compared to other phones is 9 out of 10
- video on it although viewed on a smaller screen, runs more smooth than a moto v551
- mp3 player
- bluetooth. SO FUN. i make 30 second mp3 ringtones and bluetooth them to friends and they think it's amazing, probably because they dont have to pay 2.50 for a 10 second one
- Memory card expansion. I have a card reader, so after i make the mp3 ringtone i transfer it to the card then onto my phone. Also helps with custimization because you can make custom wallpapers on your computer and put them on the card then onto your phone. ITS GENIUS I TELL YOU.
- small size
- loud speakerphone, sounds like the person's right next to u in person
- small and lightweight
- great organizer implementation
- AIM and texting is easy
- the phonebook is easy to use. stores 1000 names and numbers but idk that many people personally

Cons:

- Small screen only 128x128 doesnt but me much. larger woulda affected phone size i think

- It lacks sexiiness. It's like the Christina aguilera of phones (bad analogy i know) It's small and compact and no one knows it could do all it could do but it's amazing. no one knew such a skinny little girl could sing so good lol

* Thought you should knows:

the select button isn't hard to press. if you buy it you'll play with it and get used to it and master pressing it.

it looks better in pictures. i thought it was a sexii phone when i saw pictures of it but when i got it i was like =/ the 3100 is way more appealing

who cares that it could only record 4 mins of video who would record longer with a phone n e way?

All those features for only 100 bucks via cingular.com

i think its top 5 material only $100 can't beat it

Top cingular phone

1. SE s710a
2. nokia 6620
3. Samsung p777
4. Nokia 6230

hope this helps to sell the amazing 6230

My favorate Nokia Yet

Jan 22, 2005 by jasoninsandiego

What is not to like about this phone. With out repeating everyone elses review I will say this is the best Nokia I ever owned. That is my opinion of course. It is has great, full features, easy to operate, and nice size. It is not too big, nor is it too small. The keys have a great touch to them. The reception is outstanding. The connectivity is great. SMS, IM, MMS, Bluetooth, IR all work with no problems.

The only wish list is:
1.To be able to replace the memory card with out changing the battery
2.Slightly bigger screen
3.Improve the pocket browser
4.Use stand jacks for the head phones instead of the funky jack that they currently use.

Don’t get me wrong. This is my all time favorite Nokia phone.
