THE WORST HAS BEEN RELEASED AND "NOW DISCONTINUED"

Jan 27, 2005 by Ericak

I’m a dealer for SPRINT PCS, and this is by far the worst phone I have dealt with “already on my 3rd replacement”. Sanyo should be Ashamed.

Listed reasons below

1. Dropped calls
2. C1 error on camera
3. Battery life
4. Screen calling
5. Phone powers on and off when it feels like
6. The best yet- it loves to call out on its own when I have the ear piece in
7. Returned because ear piece stopped working.
8. The screw will eventually freeze and when you open your phone the side will crack.
9. hour before I get voice mail
10. 2 hours before I get my text messages
Should I go on?
By far the worst Sanyo has yet to make!

I REALLY HOPE SANYO'S NEW MODEL THE 5600 IS MUCH BETTER THEN THIS HANDSET.

Great Disappointment

Jan 4, 2005 by vicenac

I sell phones. Lots of them. Sanyo had a very strong reputation among my customers and my colegues. So I've got me the best Sanyo at the time.

In 32 days it lost all reception known to man! It will show full signal but it will redial forever, not reaching anybody.
I exchanged it for a new one. Same story! By this time we had lots of reports from customers and other stores describing the same problem.
My phone actualy had another problem too. When in camera mode, the picture started moving sideways!!!!
So, I've got the third one!
This one is good! But... Sometimes if the battery is low I miss incoming cals.
and....

PRO:
- very good looking when closed
- very good speakerphone
- high speed when used as a modem
- very good quality voice

CON:
- ugly when opened
- full of bugs / Sanyo never recalled it!!! but they discontinued it very fast
- unusable alarm (it only has a CALL alarm or a schedule)
- only 9 speedials
- hard to quickly find a name in phonebook
- does not default to t9 in txt msg
- does not remember e-mail addresses for pix msg and does not intuitively sugests a phone number from recent list

I do not recomand this phone to anyone. It is hard to use and full of bugs.

Sanyo and Sprint: Good or Bad?

Nov 10, 2004 by SaiGoNx714

This is my first Sanyo phone since I have always used Motorola before. The speakerphone is good but not as loud as Motorola. I like how I can download FrEe ringtones and wallpaper from 3gforfree.com. ALso, I can watch TV but the screen is rather small for MobilTv. Reception is absolutely awesome, even when using an earpiece. The battery last awhile. I am impressed with this phone and will buy more Sanyo product in the future. Sprint has great reception and extraordinary features. I dropped the phone several times but it still flawless, appearance and performance. The camera can have improvement and the camcorder can have a longer record time than 15s. Thank you for reading my review!

This Phone Sucks

This phone really sucks... the speaker on the phone is choppy everytime i want to use the speaker i have to repeat myself a few times.... i exchanged the phone for another and it is still having problems..... my neighbor recently got one and he is having the same problems.... the only good thing i could say about this phone is that it looks nice, it has walkie talkie, and basically thats all i could say about the phone..... i recently got the Samsung A700 and this phone kicks ass.... i love the phone.... the videos i got from the sanyo 5500 sucked... they were blocky as well... but the samsung a700 video rocks.... IF YOU OWN THE SANYO 5500 GET RID OF IT AND GET ANOTHER PHONE... MY RECOMMENDATION IS THE SAMSUNG A700

Very good phone

BIG Disappointment

Aug 9, 2004 by ChrisWeed

I have had Sprint service since the very beginning and this is the worst and most frustrating phone I have ever had.

I was so excited when I first got it...it's really a terrific phone with lots of great features. But...

Despite 4 attempts to upgrade my software, the local Sprint store refuses to acknowledge that this phone does not work reliably. Sometimes it takes 20-30 attempts at "redialing." The phone goes from a full signal to no signal for no reason at all. Calls are dropped constantly.

If only they could get this phone to work I would be so happy.

VM4500 review

Excellent phone. I have had quite a few phones and I have always compared them to the Sanyo 4900 (that WAS the best pone that I ever had). This phone is just as good as the 4900 and has plenty of extras.

PROS:
Excellent sound quality
Excellent signal strength
Good camera
Good camcorder
Good speaker phone
Excellent screen resolution
Excellent battery life (with the extended battery)

CONS:
Speakerphone levels jump up in loudness that are not proportionate (one level is just a little soft while the next level is LOUD, I have never even come close to the loudest setting) This is a very minor problem.

I love the phone. I am getting much better reception in some of the areas that I was getting only average reception in before. I recommend this phone to everyone. It will be hard to beat this one.

HANDS DOWN... THE BEST FEATURED PHONE AND RECEPTION BUILT, SO FAR!!

Jul 4, 2004 by gizjao

The reception compared to other phones... i.e. v400, v300, 8200, etc. This phone beats them all!! Also, this phone gots video recording for all you personal needs, a camera with a pretty good resolution, and the 2 way speaker feature... is the sh*t!! But most importantly, you're not gonna have the same experience if you've got got from "THE BAD BATCH!!" Besides that, the SANYO 5500 is the best yet in US.

PaperWeight!!

My Boyfriend and I have had sprint for awhile now and this is the worst phone we have ever had. We bought these because of all the features, we had the 8100, shouldn't have given them up.
PROBLEMS: Dropped calls w/ full signal
Constantly redials then goes
to roam
when i try to make call from
my phone book it takes me to
my screensaver
battery life is ok
ready link only works in
certain areas

I have talked to Sprint and they updated the PRL, hopefully it helps. I just want a phone that works!!

Good for the First of It's Kind

First, I should just start out by saying that I am a Samsung guy. Ever since I got my first Samsung A500, I have been sold on the company.

That being said, I wanted to upgrade from my VGA 1000 to the VM4500, so I bought one (for the $400 price tag). Right away I knew I'd have to adjust to Sanyo, and was ok with that. The lack of groups for numbers, the less-than-dynamic displays, etc. I did not expect to have to sacrifice call quality.

Good Things About the Sanyo VM4500:
Nice camera w/ flash and zoom.
Decent Video Camera-- somewhat pixelated, but ok.
Good size--more features and smaller size than 5300.
Excellent speakerphone--loud and clear.
Strong Hinges-- you can stomp on it wide open!
Large Screen--Easy to see everything.

Bad Things About the Sanyo VM4500:
TERRIBLE SOUND QUALITY!!!!!--This is the one thing I could not adjust to with this phone, and is the reason I returned it and went back to my Samsung VGA1000.
Reception is not very good.
Slow on the web.
Hinges don't spring open.
No groups for phone book entries.
No way to set video as wallpaper-- Samsung VM680 can do this.

All-in-all, it is a good phone. I do like it. I could've gotten used to the other things, but there is no way I can put up with asking people what they just said every time I have a conversation on it. It is definitely not worth my $400.
