Best Phone I've ever owned

Aug 9, 2005 by kwilly

I have had almost all of the cell phone manufacturers out there and this is the best phone bar none. It is the most sturdy and reliable phone I have come across. I have owned a nokia, LG, 2 Motorola's, and this samsung and none of the other phones hold a candle to this one. I was a little leary going with samsung, but was pleasantly surprised.

pros:
good camera (other phones I've used the pictures were blurry)
excellent volume (Motorola sucks at this)
heavy duty outside
great reception (even without analog in a rural area it works great)

cons:
no speaker phone
less than par battery life (even though the battery indicator is way off - i've had only 1 bar for over a day and it never shut off)
no bluetooth (can't have everything)

I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone looking for a heavy duty phone that can be beat up and still work great.

Okay, but my T720 was better

Okay,
First of all i have had Verizon, T-Mobile(Voice Stream), and AT&T(before merger, but i knew the code to switch between Cingular and AT&t's TDMA towers.), and Verizon is by far the best.

My First Verizon phone was a Motorola T720 and i loved it, it was great with signal strength, so i figured all Verizon phones could keep a strong signal. I WAS PROVED WRONG. I originally bought it because of the video capture setting, i was hellbent on getting a video phone.

The phones display is great can't complain! The Poly ringtones are awesome, but the realtones don't sound that good.

The signal strength isn't good. sad to say i've actually been going out of service in some area's =( i have actually had to re activate my T720 on my one trip because the Samsung isn't Tri-Mode.

Pro's-
-Video and Camera are really good for a phone.

-Front display is great

-the ear piece is very strong and loud

-it has a pull up antenna (the stubs don't get all that great reception)

-Very user friendly and easy to use

-Has Get It Now

Con's
-Horrible signal strength.

-Antenna bends very easily

-ITS NOT TRI-MODE

-True Tones aren't good at all

-Cant send EMS, can recieve but can't send.

-When in my pocket the camera sometimes goes off

-Doesn't always recieve calls (the person calling me would go straight to voice mail)

All in all the phone is okay but it doesn't amount to my old T720. I think Samsung could've done better.

It's a great phone so far :)

I upgraded from a Kyocera KX414, which I had no problems with(except its ring tones were horrible) to the A670. I've had it for a week and I like it. The color, sounds, pics, and flix are great. The only thing is Get it Now is horrible. Its so slow, and impossible to work with. My Kyocera's get it now was awesome. I guess I can't complain to much, it is a great little phone.

PRO'S
Sound * color * style * external display * love the memo pad *

CON'S
get it now * no speaker phone * face plate is impossible to remove :(

Does anybody else think like this loser saying he broke it four times. I say it was dropped and this guy does not know his phones or electronics. Everybody else seems to think this phone is good. I have it and will not part with it. Get a grip dude.

Started out good...

I researched this phone and many others and ended up getting the a670. it started out great and i loved it, good sound and reception etcetc. but i do have complaints..

1. When you take a picture, even if you are in silent mode, it still makes a sound. there is no way that i have found out to turn the pix sound off. (and believe me, i am an electronics computer person, i know alll the features to this phone)

2. When you receive a pix msg it is not fullscreen, you cant make it a good wallpaper picture becausethere is a white bar under it since the picture is widescreen or something, you cant adjust them. (the pix u take with :your: phone fit to screen.)

3. The samsung i have now and the a650 i had before both had this... with calls the vibrate/ring mode vibrates 2 or 3 times first then starts the song and stops vibrating. they dont go at the same time (unless it is a text msg, which is weird, why not do it for both)

4. This is the worst problem!! BATTERY LIFE! the first a670 i had was great the first few days, then all the sudden it would be out of battery and turn off in the middle of the day. i charge it the same all the time and every morning take it off the charger and it is usually fine as long as i dont take too many pictures or call for too long. i took it back and got a new a670 and now it is starting to have VERY short battery life again, (only stays on for maybe 5 hours at a time!! :-( i am taking it back again maybe to try to get a different model. i want an LG= no problems so far with those.

5. You can't send the videos and it only holds 2 at a time, but i knew that when i bought it.

There are good things about this phone, dont get me wrong, but it is the battery life that is bothering me.

I think i am going to get an LG, none of the problems mentioned are with the LG...

Best and more afordable phone in the market!

Let me begin by telling you that i'm a cell phone freak,i'm always searching for news on this site, love it!I have cell phones since almost 15 years ago,i've been through a dozen nokias, the 1000,5125,8260,3586,225,you name it,and all of them were tremendous phones on their time, the only bad phone i have ever own was the motorola T-720,that phone was possesed, worst phone ever! Now I have the A-670 since last september and let me tell you I'm not a person that uses the phone only 30 minutes weekly,I`m a heavy cell phone user,I have over 500 hours of use on it! Great size, decent battery life, easy to use, nice phone to look at,and the finest pictures of a non 1 plus megapixels phones, superb clarity and reception. Cons. The default ring tones are low. Now even though I love this phone I'm starting think of a new one but not because is bad or is broke,is only because that after almost a year I want something new,so I'm looking at the new phones from my provider VERIZON,to see the next one,I'm between the Motorola e-815 and the LG 8100,so I don't know because of my bad experience with the Motorola T-720,and my no experience with LG's

great phone, but lacks certain necessities

This phone is great for the average user. It always has great reception - even in places that are hard to get it. The menu is fairly organized, though I think it could be more so i.e., the calculator is under the planner section...minor stuff like that. The camera is good, but tends to make white things look yellow which isn't flattering on teeth. Being able to take a picture with the flip closed is a great feature that I use a lot, and the flash usually works well when the phone is held still. Also, the size of the phone is a HUGE plus for me because I really don't like lugging around a huge phone. It's very compact and sturdy. However, the sound quality (ring tones) is quite poor, and makes downloading from get it now not worth the money. At the loudest volume, ring tones are VERY distorted and when at a normal volume, can't be heard. I am a huge Get It Now fan, so this was very disappointing to me, especially after having had an LG, which had impeccable sound quality. I have had to resort to using the preloaded ring tones which are boring but are the only ones that aren't distorted on an audible volume level. Also, the main screen text and colors cannot be changed which is annoying when using different backgrounds with colors such as black that make the text blend in. I knew that this phone didn't have a speaker phone before I bought it, but I really miss it because I used it a lot. I thought that I would get used to it, but I really haven't and I absolutely hate that this phone doesn't have it. One more thing...you cannot shut the shutter sound off when taking pictures. Even in silent mode, it still makes a noise, which I have found disappointing because you can't take pictures in quiet environments without making a scene. they're all quite obnoxious too.

Great Phone

I just picked up this phone and it is by far the best. I've tried other camera phones(LG VX6000, Audiovox 8910) and found that these phones suck. They aren't very intuitive. The Samsung on the other hand has every feature you could want on a camera phone. There are only a few flaws that don't let me rate this as perfect. 1. ringtones need to be louder. 2. I wish Samsung would give you a cradle charger instead of making you buy one. This would be helpful as you may want to purchase an additional battery as the standard one needs more life in it that is my 3rd issue. . I won't address the video issues as I don't think that they make or break the phone. For the money, this is a great phone. If you want analog buy a trimode phone. This phone never advertises itself as one. If you want a speaker phone buy a phone that has one. This phone never advertises itself as a speaker phone These two items don't make or break the phone.

Yes, but watch out ...

The other reviewers have nicely summarized the pros and cons... but I have a problem. The audio constantly breaks up. The phone seems to chop off the beginning of each word, so I am constantly asking people to repeat themselves. They can hear me just fine.

No problem, you say: use Verizon's 15 day return or the 1 year warranty. If you do either of those things you will get from Verizon a refurbished phone with a 90 day warranty!!!

sturdy, nice color/screens

This phone was pretty intuitive, but I have had other cell phones...once you've had a few you can figure out the new ones.

One thing that the manual forgot to mention is that you need to hold the right (up/down) button on the phone for 2 seconds or so to get the outside screen to light up when the phone is closed. I guess this is to prevent accidental activiation. My old motorola lit up right away, so I spent a bunch of time trying to find how to do this in the manual before I accidentally discovered you need to hold down the button longer than most phones.

I had a motorla t720 before this. This phone is MUCH better in form and fit. the clamshell isnt wobbly like the T720 and the buttons and screens have much cleaner, brighter lights.

pro:

Clean lines, feels sturdy, LARGE color outside screen

con:
cant turn off camera sound when taking a picture, only a few "normal" rings--and a bunch of dumb ones, manual isn't that great--but I didn't use it anyway.
