Poor performer..nice looks

Aug 30, 2005 by wingsinger

I liked the phone aesthetics and ergonomics, that's what prompted me to buy it. However, reception was terrible and even when I had a strong signal, it was digitally clipping which was extremely annoying. I also had dozens of dropped calls in the first week.

And when I turned the ringer off, it would still ring! I'm going back to a string and tin can, it's more reliable.

What peopl don't seem to realize...

Everyone, the Outside screen DOES light up, all you do is hold the up/down keys on the side for a couple seconds (not even) and it lights up...now you can all stop listing that as a con =)

Great phone, OUTER DISPLAY DOES LIGHT UP WITHOUT OPENING

Aug 11, 2005 by mcphersk

This phone is great, the fisrt video phone for verizon. However you cannot send the videos over the web, and the quality is sub-par. But the camera is pretty good and holds a decent amount of pictures, and the quality is excellent.
- FOR ALL WHO DO NOT KNOW - you CAN light up the front display WITHOUT opening the phone. Hold the volume button down on the side of the phone for about three seconds and the display will light up. I discovered this one day when I refused to believe that i had to open the phone to do so.
- ALSO YOU CAN PUT THIS PHONE'S MESSAGE ALERT ON VIBRATE - Go to messages, message setting, general, msg. alert, and then change to vibrate. EASY!

Good phone, and I hope this review helps some of you guys out. I hope to upgrade to a vx8100 soon.

A670 great phone, Samsung warranty is not

Apr 23, 2005 by bode123

I have had my A670 since August 2004.
It has been a great phone & I agree with many of the "pros" others have listed. I love the volume on the side, so you can adjust while talking to someone.
Recently, the phone cracked at the display light. Samsumg does not warranty "external" parts of the phone. I have never had this problem with other manufacturers. I am very disappointed, because the only solution Verizon gave to me was to buy a new phone, or work with the broken one (it does not stay closed anymore). I did not drop my phone, I keep it in a verizon black cover to protect it. Simply, the plastic just cracked.
I called Samsung and they require 2-4 weeks to look at it, and will not supply a replacement phone. They also require a $65 repair fee. I asked if that was a base fee, but was not given a straight answer - he said "we keep your credit card on file" - doesn't sound good to me.
Honestly, I loved the phone, but if it cannot hold up, I do not highly recommend it.

Wanted to love it ....................

OK, I really wanted to love this phone (and did mostly). I researched lots of phones before I got it in Oct, and I liked it.

It broke for the FOURTH time this week.

I am absolutely anal about my electronics - never dropped, bounced, or jarred.

I can't bring it into work, so rather than leave it in the cold car, it stayed home all day.

THREE separate, new phones did this "reboot" thing, where it would just cycle (indefinitely) between powerup and shutdown, never actually turned on.

One separate, new phone had some problem with GIN, and had to be replaced.

I think now that the rebooting thing had something to do with trying to use pictures for the opening and/or closing - but the techs had no way to fix it.

I can't be the only person who had this problem, three phones in three months - and absolutely no abuse.

sigh

This phone is a typical product put out by Samsung. What this means is the phone is awesome and on the best carrier, Verizon!

Meh, Not the greatest, but it'll do

I recently got this phone from my girlfriend for christmas and im sad the say the phones not the best *grr* but overall its an alright phone to start out with if you havent had any previous camera phones.

Pros-
- Easy Accessibility to all its feature.
- The camera takes pretty good photos.
- The signal is great compared to some other phones.

Cons-
- The battery dies out way to quickly (one or two videos or using the flash drains your battery to nearly dead).
- The signal is great outdoors for traveling yet indoors the signal tends to die out in the weirdest places (I lost a complete signal inside a greenhouse????!)

Overall the phone is alright to start out with but i wouldnt reccommend it to any previous camera phone users, try the new LG or Mot. The 710 is the bomb!

Cool Phone

Feb 16, 2005 by TLWillis

I just upgraded from the Samsung a310 (which was an excellent phone) and so far, I am satisfied with the a670. I was able to use my same car adapter and ear piece on my new phone and the menus are very similar, so that was a plus. The pros, in my opinion, far outweigh the cons.

Pros:
small and lightweight
great sound
good battery life
vibrant color
attractive exterior design
user-friendly menus
voice dial options

Cons:
terrible ring tone selection
no speaker phone option
terrible wallpaper selection
can only have photo OR caller name as ID, not both
cannot open phone while in belt clip holster (urrrrrgggghhhh!)
no tri-mode (Verizon says they are going to all digital by end of 05 anyway)

With the exception of the belt clip issue, the cons are tolerable or can be upgraded using Verizon's Get It Now option. All in all, its a great little phone. I would recommend it.
