I love this phone!!

Jun 14, 2004 by poontosh

When it comes to cell phones, I am a bit of a freak. Last December I switched to Verizon from AT&T, and I got the VX-6000. Not a bad phone, and I was happy with it. In May, I had the same phone for 5 months, and it was time for a change. I just needed something new. First I got the Samsung a610. Not a bad phone, but it had no external display. The voice dialing was pretty cool. Then I got the SPH-a700 PDA phone. That phone was too big, and it was really more then I needed. I finally settled on the SPH-a670.

I love this phone. I will probably end up getting the true video phones when they come out this fall, but for now, this thing is great. The call clarity is excellent, the menu's are easy to use, and the picture quality is perfect.

I don't have a whole lot to say except this is a great phone.

good phone until it BREAKS!

I agree with everyone's pros ... nice features.

My con is that I (and two of my friends) have had to replace this phone twice! After a few months it will develop a hairline fracture at the hinge on the right. Then after a few months the hairline will become ... well, not so hairline! Eventually after the crack gets to the light, it will go behind the light forcing the hinge to pop out.
I have had to replace my phone twice in less than a year and a half. The same goes with my friends who have the same phone.

SO... be careful when purchasing this phone! Its made out of cheap, thin plastic!

I despise It

Horrible luck with this phone

I loved this phone when I first purchased it. It had all of the features I wanted in a cell phone. However, after three weeks of using it, I went to turn it on after a battery recharge, and all it did was to recycle itself in a reboot mode never to turn back on again. After waiting for five weeks to receive a replacement phone, I received another brand new A670. Upon the second recharging of this phone, I turned it on to find a “blue screen of death saying “VART CONN EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD.” It became yet another useless phone. Neither of these were abused in any way, and the repair tech at my service provider said they may have received a bad batch of A670’s, for until recently, very few of them had been returned. Either way, I’ve had horrible luck with this phone, and if this happened to be a bad batch of them, chances are good there are many more floating around. Buyer BEWARE!

All in all, a very good phone

I began using cellular technology just over two years ago while using an LG VX4400 (tri-mode) with US Cellular as a service provider. Since I travel quite extensively throughout the upper Midwest region, I needed a phone that was reliable while having good reception in rather remote areas, and the LG did just that. Once the phone aged, however, it seemed to eat up batteries quickly, so I found that it was time to purchase a new phone. I then purchased the Kyocera MX16 and hated it. It sounded like I was hearing people with their heads under water. I was hoping to continue with LG, but a friend of mine at US Cellular informed me that many of them were being returned, so I opted for the Samsung a670. After spending a horrendous two weeks with the Kyocera, the a670 was fabulous. I get great reception, for the most part, but being a dual-mode digital phone, I find that I lose service in the remote areas due to the lack of having an analog signal. The camera & video features are kind of fun, but not necessary for my use. As I've read in many reviews here, this phone can get rather hot with extensive use. Since turning on the Power Save function and turning off the backlight as well as many other items, I've found that the phone not only stays much cooler, but the battery doesn't drain nearly as quickly, either. All in all, though, it seems to be a pretty good phone.

Pros:
Great reception when near a digital signal.
Call quality is good.
Screen is clear & easy to read.
Functions are very user-friendly.

Cons:
Tri-mode would definitely help service coverage.
Side button for camera is easy to hit, thus starting camera mode in normal phone use.

If you're looking for a quality, durable, & reliable phone for a fair price, this appears to be a good one. But, if you're looking for a phone with lots of bells & whistles beyond the basic calling features, then this is probably not the phone to purchase.

Not in love with it but like it a lot...

This phone is very nice for the money and a definite upgrade from my last 2 phones but I wish it had a few more features that would have made it perfect like a longer talk time/battery life and speakerphone but, other than that, it's pretty decent and gets the job done.

perfect

Okay Phone

I just bought this phone and loved what I had read about it. Now after owning it for a week I want to trade it in. The first thing that bugs me is the start up time. From when I turn on my phone until I can actually make a call, it takes about 3 minutes. And while waiting for it to turn on you have to listen to this loud chimey music that Samsung has programed in. My mom had an old Samsung (3 years) which played the same music. There is no way to prevent it unless you turn the ringer off and into vibrate mode.
The receiption on this phone sucks. I was in the middle of the city and was down to one bar and my phone was trying to roam.
The battery life is very short. It goes through the first 2 battery icons in about 10 hours and will sit on the one battery icon for about 12 hours in standby mode, or 2 hours of talk time. The phone gives little warning when it is about to die.
I was excited when I first got this phone, but now I want an LG.

Pros

Colourful screen
By pushing the volume button, it lights up the front
Small and compact
Decent (normal) rings
Volume level is good
Clarity of other party is okay

Cons

Slow start up
Loud music when booting
Text msg. is slow and puts everything on one line
Camera sucks
Menu is slow
Contacts are hard to find
Battery life sucks
No backgrounds (they give you one)

Overall, I wish that I would have gone with an LG, they are more dependable, faster and have better features.

Nice phone, but keep in mind this!

This is a real nice phone. I realy love the way it performs, but the only problem that I can realy see in this A670 is that the Hinges break real easy. You can be opening the phone to receive a call and the phone might end up in two pieces. And the sad part is that this damage is not cover by the warranty. Other than that it is a real nice phone.

Motorola could learn from this phone

This is a truly great handset, its packed with features. It does everything its supposed to do and does it exceptionally well.

never drops a call, never distorted sound quality, great volume, beautiful display, camera takes amazing photos considering its only .3 mp. Decent battery life.

Its a tiny phone which is great since it seems like every phone manufacturer is going back to the huge phones of the 90's.

Great value for what you get.

Only 2 things could make this a better phone.... internal antenna, and speaker phone.

This is easily the best phone I've every owned!!
