v60p

Sep 19, 2003 by Tony Clifton

This phone is great!

Pros: Stylish, Great Reception(verizon,Southern California), Loud and Clear Speaker, PTT walkie talkie works great, it has good sound quality, SMS text messaging has easy to use quick note templates

Cons: Poor Battery life, but that can be problem can be fixed by purchasing the extended lithium ion 900 mah battery, no games, no color screen

If you are looking for a reliable phone that has good phone reception, SMS text messaging, and PTT walkie talkie...this is the phone for you.

You get the best of both worlds by choosing Verizon with PTT.

V60p, Released too early?

Sep 12, 2003 by Robert Bond

The Motorola V60p may have been released a little early. Bugs abound in the “push to talk” network, garbled transmissions, dropped calls and excessively long connect times are the most often related problems. Although most of this is due to high traffic on the network, this adds further proof of the popularity of the “walkie-talkie” feature.
Overall, the form is very familiar to anyone who has had one of the earlier V60 models. The speakerphone function is a welcome addition to the list of features, although having the “get it now” feature available (it’s on the menu in the phone but not supported yet in CA.) would make the phone more impressive.
Although battery life is less than anticipated, it's still on par with other radio/cell phone units.
All in all a good idea, but if you are thinking about buying, you may want to wait for a month or two.

COOL!!!

So far so good! This phone is great!

CONS, none! I've had no problems keeping calls, making calls, receiving calls, messages, etc. wherever I go. I bought the FM radio adaptor and now listen to my favorite radio stations at my leisure.

Having had a Nextel phone in the past, this Verizon phone is a much needed change! It's got by far more features than a Nextel ever could, and it's on america's best, most reliable Network so that's a plus.

People have complained about battery life, some claiming that battery life was no better than 5 hours!! Well, I've been running it for about 6 hours now and am still at full power.

Finally, where I'm at, in Southeast Lower Michigan, coverage and 1X has held solid, usually with a full 5 bars of signal strength and no lower than 3- averaging 4. I've been all over the area and am a believer in Verizon's quality phones and service after being let down consitently with Nextel. I only hope they [Nextel] suffers heavily from this new PTT product!

Does Not Roam Correctly

The Phone is cool and it has the right idea but the phone does not roam correctly. It needs some work I would not recommend it to anyone at this point.

Not Bad

I have been using the phone since yesterday and think there are a few quirks that need to be fixed yet but overall it works great. For example I would like to be able to access the ptt list, answer. or make a voice tagged call with the flip closed. I am sure that this can be achieved with just a software revision.

PTT can be fun!!

Sep 6, 2003 by Rayjean Gerkin

The PTT feature is really fun. Not just for work but for keeping in touch too. At the push of a button it's can you hear me now? Good! Love the built in speaker phone. By far the loudest ringer tones and volume. But the using it as a phone I am still not sure about. I have had a few more dropped calls then what I like but, could be change in the usage. As Verizon's sales are on the rise in my ares. This is a phone that I could and will recommend. At least give it a try.... See for yourself! Can You Hear Me Now? Good!!!!!!

The phone is a great phone. The speaker function works very very well. The battery life is low however that is do to the PTT featr on the handset. The PTT service from VZW works excellent. Highly recommended to anyone whom simply needs a solid working phone w/out a color screen. You can also get ring tones via www.vtext.com which I thought was pretty cool since the GET IT NOW is not yet available on the phone yet.

Wish I had not bought it.

Battery life is terrible. Reception is terrible. Very choppy and hollow. Not bright enough at night. Misses calls.

Speaker phone is nice and loud though, if you can keep the signal.

Wish I had foud this place before getting.

PPT only

The good
- The speaker-phone works great. It is loud enough to hear in the car. Callers can hear me clearly. I can even talk with the phone sitting in my lap as I drive. The speaker crackles on MAX volume, and background sounds "step-on" the callers voice occasionally. But that's no diff from a desktop speaker-phone.
- The size is great. It folds to the size of a pager, but when open it is larger than my old phone and fits my face better.

The Bad
- The vibrating/ringing options could use some work. It has a mind of its own when it comes to ringer settings. It will change from "vibrate/ring" to "loud" all by itself. Also the "vibe" isn't very strong. I have missed calls when I have it strictly set to vibrate.
- The screen size is tiny making the text hard to read.
- The belt clip is junk. It is a little painful to operate with one hand. The piece of plastic you push with your thumb to release the phone should be 1/4" bigger and would solve all the complaints.
- Battery life stinks. 36 hrs of STDBY with only a little talking.
- I've also had signal strength issues, where other phone worked just fine.

The Ugly
- I bought this phone specifically b/c is the ONLY "folding" speaker-phone Verizon sells (Sept '03). I didn't get the PTT plan.
- The constant PTT pinging eats minutes. To stop this I have to pay 20 extra bucks /mo. They can make a change that will stop the pinging, but it won't help the battery.
- They need to re-write the software to work without the PTT plan. That will fix the batt life.

My Plan
- I hear Verizon is going to release the Audiovox 8600 in October '03. With any luck it won't have the same problems as the v60p. I only hope they will let me switch for free!
