Was fine... but went downhill

Jan 3, 2005 by jasmine89

When I purchased the LG VX-5550 I was great. Or maybe it was the fact that my phone before that one (Motorola 120x) was so horrible that it made this one look like a Godsend. But I was wrong. Within months, more and more calls have been dropped, the screen becomes jumbled or blacks out, the phone sometimes won't ring when someone is calling, or the I simply can't hear the person on the other end of the phone. The only reason it got the 2 points it got was because the screen is good (when it works) and the menu is good.

screen mess up

Nov 24, 2004 by ringster

I have just recently purchased this LG phone, its my first LG and the best phone I have ever purchased. The features are great but I have only had one problem and thats with the LCD screen. My screen started going out and it will either go out or become jumbled. When I called to report this glitch or mess up my service provider informed me that I was not the first person this has happened to.I have had this phone for 3 weeks, and I have had the loaner for about 1 now.LG is supposed to be coming up with a fix but none has happened yet.I give this phone a 3.5 because the little time I have had with it has been great, the features and software is the best I have ever seen.

Lots of Features, Worst Reception Ever

Nov 19, 2004 by DaveM

The phone was alright, it had a lot of features. If you want features such as voice recognition and voice dialing where you speak the whole number and it repeats it back to you, instead of the one at a time thing with most other manufacturers. I am a student, and I know we're not supposed to have cell phones in class, but I keep mine on vibrate. Well, I get no service in one of my classrooms, where I miss text messages and phone calls.

The phone has a wonderful user interface, and it's easy to figure out where stuff is. My phone had a problem with the voice commands, ring tones, and voice memos cutting out. I'd play them, it'd be fine, and then once in a while (which turned into every other time) it would stop in the middle of it. That sucked. I hope they fix the software glitch.

Reception, is that a concept that LG thought about while making this beautiful phone. Obviously it wasn't one of the priorities. I go to school in Big Rapids, MI, and I travel to Grand Rapids, MI a lot for class projects or just for the heck of it. It depends where I was on US 131 if I got reception.

This is my 3rd out of 4 so far from alltel. I want a phone that has wonderful reception. That's my first priority. I'll take a phone that has a sucky user interface where it's hard to figure stuff out for the reception. I just bought the Kyocera 3250, and had a conversation from Grand Rapids all the way to Big Rapids, without any service interruptions. The LX 5550 does not compare to the 3250 as far as reception, and the 3250 does not compare to the 5550 as far as features.

Buy a phone at Radio Shack. They have a 90-Day phone exchange policy. Alltel has a 15-day policy, and that's what most stores comply to.

Basically, like the title says, if you want reception, don't get this phone. If you want features, get this phone.

LG 5550

Nov 10, 2004 by JSCHIELKE

I love the design of the phone, but I have had a real problem with dropping calls. I work out in the open area and can be within 5 miles of a tower and the phone will drop the call! Might be problem phone.

I just got the phone and it looks great.. I can't wait until I figure everything out on it. It shouldn't take that long. The speaker phone is a great option and i have already used it and it works great.
