Great phone!

Feb 17, 2004 by imapirate05

I have had the phone for about a month, and this is better than my previous Lg vx4400, aside from the two-tone case and its bulkiness, it's a very solid and quality phone. The 4500 is very thin and sleek. It fits comfortably in my hands. The sound quality is great. I really like the driving mode. The speakerphone is very clear on both ends, when talking with people on the other end they can't even tell that I'm on the speaker phone. The only problem I have is deciding if I should use the holster to carry my phone or if I should use the leather case to carry my phone. Would definitely suggest to other customers.

Volume Control

In response to David's review. The "glitch" that you found on the phone has been addressed in the forum. When you raise the volume of the earpiece while talking, you have to hit OK after raising it, so that it will keep the setting that you choose, otherwise it WILL go back to the default setting. I believe that is to ensure that you did wish to raise or lower the volume and didn't accidentally hit the volume button while in a call.

I originally had teh 4400B and traded it in the following week for the 4500 because I really needed the speakerphone capabilities since I work and drive in and around the metro Atlanta area, and it's nice to be able to talk on the phone hands free.

The clarity is wonderful, I love the hands free speaker phone, I was aware of the glitches, such as that mentioned by David, and knew I could work around it. Love digit dial and not having to enter phone numbers in the phone while driving.

For me, this has been an outstanding phone and I look forward to continued useage of the phone.

Hey I'm number one baby! and still a loser....

I have not used the samsung. I like the 4500 though. I wish that the speaker would work open but it is fine this way. One person said that there was a tiny bit of reverb on the other end when I was on speaker. I got on a landline and let my wife talk to me over the speaker, and I couldn't hear any noise so it might have been their landline.

When in Driving Mode the phone verbally announces the phone number or phone book entry if stored. It says caller unavaible if no caller id. To answer the phone only need to open the flip. The cool thing is that there is no programming for the voice dialing and caller id.

I like the shape of the 4400B and its color LCD better.

I like the 500 contacts in the 4500.

I've been using the desktop charger and the speaker phone which is awesome while I'm working on the keyboard.

It comes down to the speaker, 500 contacts, no analog, no color on the outside LCD, a few new wallpapers, and ringers. How much do each of these mean to you. For me speaker and contacts are big. I'm a little nervous about no analog because of my conservative nature, but we have lots of digital towers here.

I'm satisfied. I'll drive my route through the mounatains on Monday so will test the signal reception.

I'd rate 5 but the lack of analog and the speaker is open only unless there is a hack. As someone else said, the microphone may be the reason for open only speaker. It is located inside when the flip is closed.

That will do LG, that will do...

Ok, just got the phone today, and overall I am pretty satisfied. The ear-piece is nice and loud, in fact, I found myself turning it down most of the time. The Speaker-phone is also nice and loud, very close to the V60's (better than my good old audiovox 9500). Battery life seems pretty good, I got the phone a quarter charged and it lasted me through the day. Screen is not as good as the vx6000, but, its good enough for what most people would by this phone for.
A couple of gripes, charger...why on earth did LG not make a charge indicator on the screen like the 4400? someone at LG goofed on that one. The calender..a little more odd to get too (they placed it under voice command features). Beyond that not much to complain about.
So in conclusion:

Pros:
Speaker-phone, nice and loud
Ear-piece, nice and loud
reception, analog? don't even miss it
Voice command feature, one of the best, like my samsung I700
Vibrate & Rings..at the same time (unlike 4400, vibrates then rings)

Cons:
Charge indicator, what charge indicator?
Calendar, err..its there, just not where you thought.

Cons for other people:
The external LCD light, its one color, white..(but if you tilt the phone its has cool hologram effects)
Speakerphone will only work with phone open, (well so did my audiovox 9500)
Screen is not as good as the VX6000, then get a vx6000
no analog, I say if you are not in a digital zone...well your not in a digital zone.. :P

A fantastic phone!

A truely outstanding little phone for what you are paying for it. It's definitely the best phone on the market for the price. The pro's are so many that it's hard to know where to begin:

1) The reception is fantastic. My old Motorolla 60i frequently had dead areas or lousy reception. This phone has yet to have a dead space, even in the elevator at work where my co-workers ALWAYS lose singal.

2) The screen is great, I'm not sure what people are expecting from a flip-phone cellular display screen but it's not a computer monitor it's a color display. It's quite excellent even through the plastic cover on the leather case.

3) Easy voice commands! And it works for EVERY number, not just 20 or so like most other phones. Even if you 'miss' you can get to your numbers very quickly because it at least gets close (I've never had mine miss yet, you really should make sure you go through the voice training routine if you're having difficulty)

4) Speakerphone is fantastic, very clear and understandable and is great at filtering out background noise... And, to counter those naysayers in the group, it DOES work when closed (for incoming calls only), you just need to make sure it's in drive mode so you can answer it properly.

5) Battery life is impressive. My old phone didn't last nearly as long.

6) 500 contacts!!! WHEE!

My only downside that I've found:
No "Vibrate Only" mode. I REALLY miss this option because I don't like having to turn my phone off or put it on "silent" because if you do that you miss calls that may be important. If I can find a way to put this sucker in "Vibrate Only" mode I will be completely happy.

Good Phone

I've had this phone since the day it came out. This is also my first LG phone. I've always used Motorola's.

Phone is excellent except for a few minor software bugs.

Sound Quality and Signal Strength better than my previous V60I. Don't think I will miss Analog.

Hopefully they will come out with new software that allows us to use the speaker phone with the phone closed and will fix the bug with the volume while in a call.

Other than those 2 things, couldn't be happier.

VX4500 great phone, but found a glitch.

Feb 15, 2004 by Roadstir

I just received my new VX4500 on January 31, 2004. It's an amazing phone, and I've been very happy with it thus far. However, I think I've found a glitch in it's programming.

If I am talking on the phone and it's noisy around me I use the volume control on the side of the phone to temporarily raise or lower the volume. But if I do this, the volume only stays raised (or lowered) for about 4 seconds, and then it bumps down to the volume level set by default in the settings menu. It will NOT stay at the volume you set by the side control for more than a few seconds!

I went by the Verizon store and showed it to the tech people. Einstein there fiddled with it for a few minutes and finally says: "that's one of the phones features." Duh. I asked what possible use is a volume control that only works for a few seconds. He answers "they don't explain all the features to us at the store." Thank you, genius. They even tried another phone there at the store and it did the same thing.

The next day I contacted LG's tech deptartment. They got one and experienced the same thing. She said that this was the first report they've had on this and that it would be sent to engineering to figure out what happened. And that if they could, there would be a software update within 6 months, I think.

Anyone else experience the same thing?

I LOVE THIS PHONE!

I changed from a V120 to this after checking reviews and looking at all the other options. I've had the phone almost 2 months and I'm overall happy with the package that this 4500 provides. The speakerphone is great. The only complaint is the 4 way process for the contact dialing, if it was quicker I would have given it a 5.0. Not sure if the TRI-mode is missed yet but the reception is great so far.

Fantastic Phone

I just got this to replace a Kyocera SE47. It's better in every way except looks, and it looks pretty good. Wonderfully accurate voice activation, good screen for a basic phone, easy to use with a good battery life. Good reception. A wonderful choice if you just want a phone and can live without AMPS. Two thumbs up.
