Aug 22, 2004 by Bruins21

This phone was cool at first but then it sucked ass i could never get any service with this phone in the middle of the service area but when i got rid of this phone and got the Samsung VM-A680 it completly changed my mind about sprint all in all the sanyo 8100 was bulky and the camera sucked!

Great Phone!

Probably the second best phone out of the 35 phones I own in the past five years. Quality wise it is the best. Feature has been reduced down abit compared to other Sanyo models. A solid performance.

it was good at first..

i got this phone in december.. i really loved it.. and i can hold about 60 ring tones on it which is really good for me.. the camera doesn't have flash or zoom and the picture quality isn't very good at all.. the only thing i like about sprint and this phone.. is that i can see my pictures on my computer.. but it costs to see them on your computer on verizon.. but verizon is so much better than sprint.. i'm glad i switched.. the only thing good about sprint is nights start at 7.. but everything you have to pay for isn't worth it and the bill is so high every month.. but yeah.. i had this phone for about 6 months and it broke one day when i threw it.. they're not supposed to break! that's what cell phones are for.. for you to abuse when you're mad or sad.. yes.. but this phone didn't last.. i also hate the clicking sound it makes when you close it.. but its an alright phone.. i switched to verizon and got a samsung sch-a670.. a MUCH better phone

Great Phone!

I have had the Sanyo 8100 for almost a whole year now and i cannot complain about any of the features it offers or doesn't offer at all. The phone features just about everything you could put into a flip phone chassis of its size. The phone is a bit bulky compared to other phones , but you have to take into account the features of the other phone compared to the sanyo 8100. Not to mention the battery life of the two phones being compared. One thing that must always be considered is the fact that the more features you include into a phone, the bigger it becomes, and the more it costs. Sanyo has built a phone that is relatively cheap, with many great features, and isn't the size of your entire hand. It is my opinion that this is a great starter phone for anyone either new to cell phones or for someone getting a phone with features such as; a camera, internet capability, or if they just want to enter the new millenia finally. I guess I don't understand the people I hear complaining that the Sanyo 8100 doesn't have a zoom function, or that it doesn't have a flash, or that it doesn't have speaker phone capability. Yet all these people tell me the phone is too big. You can only fit so much into a phone people. Its called compromise. Be thankful for the features they crammed into it already.

SANYO vs. SAMSUNG

SANYO vs. SAMSUNG: samsung may be more user friendly, but sanyo has better quality overall

overall it's a good phone for the money, even though my hinge broke after 6 months of normal wear and tear. .

Hahaha

Sanyo talks like this is the best phone ever, well if it is I would hate to see what they consider a bad phone. The phone has its problems and you will notice them as the months go by. Ive had mine for 4 months and already its going in to the shop to be worked on because no one can hear me on it. Truthfully Ive had more problems with this phone than any other phone Ive owned. If you think about getting this because it has a camera, well theres tons of camera phones out there and now with PTT, so try to stay away from this thing.

Loud, but NOT Clear!

After 3 days of asking my callers to repeat themselves, I returned the 8100 to Radio Shack and switched back to my Motorola StarTac. No matter how high you crank the volume (and it can be LOUD), the sound is muddled and it can be hard to understand what callers are saying. My callers also reported that my voice "sounded digital" -- nobody thought I was calling from a land line, even with maximum signal.

PROS:
- Decent user interface
- Nice color screen

CONS:
- Lousy audio quality
- Too thick for comfortable belt wear
- No flash for camera
- Doesn't come with a holster

Bottom line: lots of cool gadgets, but a poor choice if your main reason for having a cell phone is to talk to people!

Great Phone

After coming from Cingular with Nokia’s, the change was great. Color phones! Previously I had a Sanyo 5150 and a Samsung A500. Neither of which compare to the Sanyo 8100. The phone works great.

Pros;
Good size, though could be a little thinner (a la Sanyo 6400)
Great reception
Nice Screen
Good battery life.

Cons:
No normal Alarm, seems so simple every other phone has it! Get with it Sanyo!
So-so Camera

Love my 8100

I've had this phone for about 9 months, and been very satisfied. It has a modern looking exterior, good volume on incoming calls and with the headset, and works well with the wireless web.
Pros:
-Camera- This phone is an excellent deal considering you also get a camera. Use your pictures for everything from wall paper to caller ID for people in your phone book.
-Design- I love the compact size, yet it's not so tiny that you would misplace it. The phone is also quite durable (considering how many times I've dropped it...heh).
-Talk time/Battery life- No complaints! It fluctuates depending on my usage, but I can usu. get through 1.5 -2 days before needing to fully recharge.
-Reception- Again, no complaints.
-External display- Very convenient, to get a quick look at incoming calls or the time.

Cons:
-Camera- No flash... it's not a BIG deal, but a flash would be handy.
-Design- The keypad is somewhat annoying. First, the keypad does not illuminate (unless the phone is being charged), so you may encounter some difficulty in dim or dark environments. Second, the "back" (aka clear) button and "end" buttons are too close together!! This is particularly annoying if you are using the wireless web and accidentally hit "end" instead of "back".
-Alarm- No alarm. You have to set up an event on the calendar to get it to alarm.

Overall, it's great phone! Even if I had known about the cons ahead of time, I would have still bought the phone. It's definitely worth the money, especially if you can get it for $99.00.
