not as bad as people say

Aug 12, 2008 by mudslinger83

i really like this phone, i get a signal everywhere, hardly any other verizon phone wouldnt get signal...i love the ruggedness of the phone ive done threw it drowned it, and it seems to hold up as expected...but i agree the only complaint with this phone is call and speakerphone quality, its not as great as some of the other phones but i can still hear everyone without hardly ever sayin "what" or 'huh carried a conversation with my girlfriend on the interstate with the windows down and could still here every word she said...but to solve the not so good call quality just get ya a good bluetooth headset that will solve your problem

pros

waterproof...it really is
exceptional reception
ruggedness
style
good camera
expandable memory
flashlight is nice
downloaded ringtones sound pretty good
ok battery life

cons

call quality isnt the best
speakerphone
battery life should be a little better but its ok

Sounds better

I have the boulder, received it on the 3rd of september.
I had verizon send me a v750 to replace it but didnt like the flimsy feeling of the phone and had heard that they had improved the sound quality on the boulder so back the 750 went.
verizon is going to send out another boulder but yesterday I received an automatic software update and the sound quality is the difference between night and day.

pros:
water proof
dust proof
shock proof
soild feeling, no creaks

Cons: battery life could be a little better

It has its moments

Im a total fonemaniac. I do really like this Boulder, but yes the battery is pathetic. I use my cell for all my calls, my home phone is getting dusty. But listen whats perfect? I will keep this because it is waterproof shockproof etc.,I do have with all my phones ( STARTAC/LG8700/SAMSUNGI730/MOTOROLA710/WORLDEDITION MOTOROLA/& AFEW OTHERS i FORGOT)ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE BATTERY AND USUALLY EXTENDED. Its cool too. Im keeping my Boulder, my son just got the MOTOROLA 750 he really likes that too. So we'll be pushing to talk! And if you lower the volume youll be able to hear better.

ok phone but not for me

I got the boulder a couple days ago, also a big move in switching from Sprint to Verizon.
The phone feels solid. It is extremely user-friendly. It is NOT all it's cracked up to be.

The speaker phone has very poor sound quality in addition to very low volume, even at it's highest setting. Call quality using the earpiece is decent, though. Ring tones sound muffled. battery life is OK at best. I've had to charge it every night...maybe after talking 30-45 minutes and having it on all day...lots of texting...it will be on one bar by the time I get home.

Folks, in my humble opinion: this phone has snazzy looks and a great concept; with poor execution. Using it for a couple days it's not for me. I can see where this phone could be practical for someone who doesn't want a lot of extras but needs a durable, rugged phone.

A friend of mine who has been with verizon for years took a look at it the other day and told me that this phone wasn't going to make me happy for 3 reasons: 1) I like gadgets...and this isn't the right phone for that 2) I am rough on phones, true, but there are other phones that are built to a high quality standard and also that's what insurance is for; and finally 3) the phone is waterproof...In making that possible something had to be sacrificed....like the coatings/coverings/materials used to assemble the phone which could absolutely effect sound quality if they're special parts, which I'm sure they are. So, is having a waterproof phone worth the little "muffle" you hear? to some it might be. not me.

This phone went back to the store today and I traded it in for the LG voyager...WOW what a difference!

pro's:
-waterproof
-durable
-sharp looking phone
-user friendly

con's:
-very low volume even on high setting
-" sound quality (not too bad)
-phone "froze" at least once every few hours
-not a lot of memory
-limited data usage
-strange attachment/adaptor for non-bluetooth ear piece and usb you must have on to use

Very Disapointing Phone !!!

Aug 14, 2008 by cgreen6120

I ordered this phone the day after it was available, Got the phone set-up as per instructions then was VERY DISAPPOINTED!! After I downloaded my contacts from verizon there was two different ring tones?? One for contacts and one for all other calls received when I only wanted my one ringtone as set. Spent 2Hrs W/ TechSupport but no help! I also had the same problem as others with the Audio quality as well it was Very POOR! Especially Ear piece. I Returned the phone Two days later and Had My Type V Reactivated Immediately.

PROs- Rugged Phone
Lightweight
Handy Compass
Decent Battery

CONs Poor Audio Quality
Software Glitch in Contacts??
Charger Different From Other Casio Phones
Needs to be Rugged phone not a Mp3/music Player

Great

I love the boulder. i opted for the one with no camera though, dont need it. sounds good, not as good as some other phones. when you buy this phone you need to ask yourself, are you buying it to listen to music or to have a rugged phone that is waterproof? have had no issues with call clarity. i would reccommend this phone to anyone who needs a water proof phone.

Disappointing

I too was very excited about the release of this phone but was extremely disappointed when I received it. I gave the phone a week and went back to my old phone. I had wanted the older Gz'one but they discontinued it. I loved the idea of the phone; dust free, water resistant, sturdy.

not a bad phone

I had the Boulder for about three weeks now and the only minor problem is the ear speaker otherwise the phone is a good rugged waterproof phone.

Best phone yet

I have no idea why everyone is bashing this phone. My wife and I both have one and it's by far the best phone Verizon has had yet. Would rate it a 5 if not for the poor battery life, but a small price to pay. Excellent sound, quality, feel, size. Only con is the battery life. Rugged and great!

Yet another audio sucks review

Aug 22, 2008 by reggea4ever

Pros:
Water resistance
Cool styling
Feels very sturdy
Camera works well

Cons:
Sound is really bad
Difficult to flip open with one hand

The g'zOne Boulder must contain the cheapest ear-piece speaker to ever come out of China. With the volume anywhere above medium, you'll swear the thing is blown. Turning it down reduces the crackling, however it still sounds like the speaker at a McDonald's drive-through. And no, it's not faulty, I returned the first phone because of it, and the new replacement was exactly the same.
So long as you don't use your phone to talk to or listen to other people, this is a good phone. But come on verizon, is this a way to get customers to use more minutes?, by having the person on the other end of the phone constantly repeat what they've said until you can understand it. That is pure genius. The shareholders must be ecstatic.
