This is a Stud!!!!! No DUD

Jul 4, 2008 by joymrt03

this phone is the best verizon phone yet and with the acquisition Attel the phones will only get better. The Big Red king is Back On Top! The Dare is only 1 block of the onslaught of iphone destroyers and when the Thunder strikes in September AT&T's 1 horse show will be completely over.

LG Strikes again!

Aug 14, 2009 by Overmann

This is LG's second Touch Screen phone for Verizon. I got it when it came out, and it has exceeded my expectations since! Remember, this is NOT a Smartphone, so don't you Dare compare it to an iPhone!

The Good:

Accurate touch screen
Decent performance
Super good signal strength
3.2 Megapixel camera
640x480 Video capture
LG's own music player
Impressive Battery Life
3.5mm Headset jack
HTML Web Browser
USB Mass Storage
Includes a USB Cable in the package
Bluetooth supports A2DP and OBEX and FTP and a lot of other protocols
On-board image editing software

The Bad:

Speakerphone is only mediocre at best
If you don't hold the phone right you will cover up the microphone port and people can't hear you
This is also true with the Proximity sensor that prevents face touching of the phone
Mobile Email is a turd
On Screen Keyboard starts slowing down if you type a long winded thesis in anything
Web browser refuses to acknowledge the presence of links at the bottom of very long web pages. This may be due to the limited amount of RAM available in the system
Bluetooth starts flipping out after the phone runs for a week or two without ever being restarted or turned off
Camera may be 3.2 Megapixel, but the image JPEG compression is too high and degrades the quality
Videos play in a 320x240 window in fullscreen, whereas the phone's resolution is 400x240. This means widescreen videos play in a frame in a frame in the phone (320x200)

The Ugly:

Make sure you do your software updates, it fixes many issues on the phone
Don't try connecting to bluetooth immediately after disconnecting a headset
Turn off sound and vibration feedback of the touch screen for more performance and better battery life
Remember that this is NOT a smartphone, it is a feature phone and therefore should not be compared to an iPhone or Blackberry
Take pictures for MMS in 640x480, as the phone will resize larger images to 512x384
Use a video conversion program to resize movies to 320x240 or 320x200 before adding

Great Phone!

Feb 1, 2009 by Luigi En Vivo

I've had this phone for two weeks and i must say it has exceeded my expectations.

i originally wanted an IPhone, but couldn't justify switching to ATT for it. so i 'settled' with this phone, knowing it didn't have the same features. now i am so happy with it and no longer jealous of IPhone owners.

Pros:

Great Screen, Visually and in brightness
Touch is good and responsive
good size, feels good in your hand.

Cons:
Limit on apps to download. (NO visual vmail, Song ID works 50% of the time)
some small quirks:
only 10 contacts per group.
Favorites menu will not allow you to click on a contact and hit the call button. there is a call button on screen that you have to press.

Good beginning for LG's touch phones

I definitely prefer this phone to Apple's iPhone. The touch screen is more accurate and the vibrations when you touch it are a fairly decent indication of an accurate touch although sometimes you will get a "false positive". The reception is as good as if not better than my old VX-8600. VZ Navigation works as well as a separate GPS system, but you will have much fewer customizing options. The Mobile email is very simple to use, and it is quite easy to set up a POP3 account. Verizon's mobile browser is easy to navigate and supports most websites, but I have found a few using coding like XML that will not load (oh well). My only issue with the qwerty keypad that you have the option to use when typing is that it only has the "abc" entry mode and not the "word" entry mode, but that is only a small disappointment.

Pros:

Stylish
Feels good in your hand
Ease of operation
Excellent signal (east Texas - Verizon)
Customizability (new word, but it works)
Good sound (talking / speaker phone / music)
Small size
Long battery life

Cons:
No Visual Voicemail
Abundance of fingerprints (as all touch screens have)
Limited # of themes (white - default, or black. Both look good.)

Overall I love the Dare, and I hope LG continues to improve their line of touch screen phones to compete with the other manufacturers.

Shot for greatness and missed

The LG Dare is an awesome phone, quite easily the best phone offered by Verizon. Revised operating system is much more appealing, as well as the numerous multimedia options available.
And the Dare has excellent call quality.

However, I do believe it to be sub-par in a number of areas.

1. Software is SOOOOO BUGGY!
-I can't say that this wasn't an expected issue. New phones almost always have bugs to be later fixed with software updates. Yet in such a competitive market, I would have expected Verizon to be more proactive in resolving these bugs quickly, however that has proven to be a mere wish.

2. The touchscreen is slow and freezes
- I have returned my phone twice for this but still have the same issue.

3. Battery life.
-A few minutes on the internet will quickly sap a bar of life out of your phone, a few minutes more and that phone will be coughing its final beeps.

4. Lack of WiFi and poor browser.
- Lets face it, no cell connection is going to perform as well as WiFi. That said.......WHY DIDN'T THEY INCLUDE IT??
This was Verizon's chance to put up a serious contender to the Iphone3G and they blew it. Not only that, they gave the Dare one of the WORST "full html" browsers EVER!!

5. Build quality
-While solid, I just found the overall build quality average at best. As I previously stated, this was Verizon's chance to contend with the Iphone and they just came up short. While it has a nice feel to it, physically the Dare is still very fragile. One drop would give this phone some SERIOUS cosmetic blemishes.
Technically, I found the phone to be underpowered in both processing power and graphics.
The 3.2mp camera deserves much better resolution than 240x400 pixels. And the ability to put some homebrew apps and games on this phone wouldn't have hurt either.

Overall, I found this to be a Great cell-phone, but a Poor multimedia phone considering its intended rival.
I only wish Verizon wouldn't have reached for the stars and fell flat on its face again.

I'm in love with this phone.

Ive worked in Wireless since 02, all corporate locations. Ive had many different phones so Ive been around =)
I am in love w the LG Dare. The last phone I purchased (and kept) was in June of 05. Since then Ive tried many different phones and haven't been able to find one worth keeping. Now that I work for carrier I was going to cancel my contract w VZW and stick w the iPhone, and then came the Dare!
The first day I had the phone I was aggravated, because Im used to working w iPhone, but after the second day was over I was finally adjusting to the Dare. Comparing side by side the iPhone is super cool, but the Dare is so much more user friendly and better for an everyday average cell phone user.

Pros

Awesome, sleek User Interface
Favorites screen for contacts is really cool
Internet is fast & full screen available. I do a lot on Ebay so this is awesome for me.
You can use your fingernail (not just finger) to scroll and select.
The speaker is VERY clear
Full touch screen
More than one search option for contacts
Able to use sounds from forwards and such for ringtones.
Battery life is awesome. Ive purchased an ext batt with EVERY phone Ive EVER gotten and I didnt for the Dare. On average Im charging it every other night & it only gets dropped down to 1-2 bars. I took a 2 hour trip this weekend to Cedar Point with my kids. I talked half way there, managed my EBay online, my bank and searched for hotels using Navigator ALL day Sat. Talked for about an hour that night. Sunday I prob only used the phone for an hour or so. Did not charge it Sun night either & was at 1 bar today.

Cons
Sometimes have to tap something 2-3 times to get what I want selected.
Lack of accessories.
Charging cord really short.

Thats all =) Overall GREAT phone! highly recommended!!!

I am so loving it

I became interested in the Dare after first hearing about it at one of the Verizon stores In July. However, Ads for the Instinct peaked my curiosity, so I purchased one. I returned the phone after only 2 weeks for reasons such as limited service where I live, constant jams and slow downs with the device. While testing the Instinct, I went to the AT&T store where I tested the G3. It was very impressive, but it dropped every call I made from the AT&T store. I need a phone to make calls before having all the bells and whistles.

Thankfully, last week I purchased my DARE and I'm very glad I did. It goes above and beyond my expectations as a phone and more. Trying the floor models at the Verizon Store doesn't do it full justice. It is not until all of my data was transfered over that this lightweight device makes me feel cutting edge and wanting to tell others GO BUY ONE!

I must mention that one doesn't forget the accessories. I purchased 2 sure grip covers and a belt leather belt holster to protect the body In addition, I kept on the original screen cover and purchased more for the future. After one week, I have had zero dropped calls and had a lot of fun with this phone.

PROS: GPS, Photos with cropping capability, Movies, email, texing, drawing, battery life, communications and music and so much more. (The one second delay in taking photo is my only reservation.)

The DARE even gives me movie times locations and talking directions to the theater. LG did a great job with this device.
BUY the DARE TODAY!!

Best phone I've had

Jun 29, 2008 by seul87k

The best phone I ever had. Verizon doesn't incorporate all it's crap into this phone. Nice responsiveness, good quality calls, easy to text. Con would be you can't adjust brightness manually and no text ringers.

The Best Phone From Verizon Wireless.

Jun 30, 2008 by Yeso

I got the phone on June 28, 2008. I love the phone. I have the IPhone too, but the LG Dare is milion times better than the IPhone.
I took the phone to the verizon wireless store the same day everybody were shocked.
One of the good things about this phone compare with I phone is, that the buttons are bigger & easy to text msg or dile the number. I've tried to get a leather case for this phone but all accessories are unavailable for now. Hopefuly it will be available on the third of july.

Once again thanx LG & verizon wireless.

Guys go ahead and buy this phone without even thinking. You'll enjoy it.

Best iClone Yet

I'm pretty confident in saying that this is Verizon's best attempt at a customizable, user-friendly touchscreen phone, and if you are into buttonless touch interfaces, you could do a lot worse across all the carriers. I've used both the LG Dare and the iPhone and I would say, undramatically, they're pretty even side-by-side. However, when factoring in the network they operate on, I have to side with the LG Dare. In my opinion, Verizon is just simply a superior network for accomodating these types of phones more capably.
