Better with modifications/downloads

Nov 18, 2007 by Billiken

The size of this phone makes it appealing to those who were/are getting tired of carrying around much bulkier phones, in my case a Treo 700p. I found the 700p to be not only bulky, but also slow, buggy and limited by the Palm platform. So, when my Treo died after only 18 months (and I do mean died), I picked up the HTC Touch, pretty much because it was smaller and I didn't have time in the Sprint store to look at other phones.

At first the small size and "eye candy" type features, were impressive, but then I realized that the device could be cumbersome, primarily because the lack of a real keyboard and its TINY virtual substitute were very frustrating. HOWEVER, after reading an internet review, I downloaded the Spb Full Screen keyboard (click the "Download CAB" version or it will not work). HUGE difference. I also reassigned the camera button to automatically pull up the full screen keyboard and it made it very easy to access the new virtual keyboard. Typing, e-mailing, texting, etc. is now nearly as easy as on my old Treo and all the other features now are once again appealing and useful.

With that said, here are my pros and cons:

PROS:
- great form factor, thin, small, but with substantial feel, especially with the rubber casing.
- lots of data available on front screen.
- phone sounds good.
- ability to turn screen to landscape mode is great and can be assigned to the camera button (press and hold as opposed to just press).
- music player sounds pretty good.

CONS:
- not really a con as much as over-rated: the Touch Flow Cube thing; just too much hype trying to be like the IPhone.
- even with the downloadable full screen keyboard, the lack of other buttons means you have to touch the screen for everything - if you have big fingers, it can be a challenge at times.
- User manual is weak (Do these people think everyone just automatically is a cell phone savant?).
- stylus is pretty small, again, an issue for those of us with big paws.

Sprint Touch Best Phone EVER!!!!!

I know I have never given a phone a perfect 5 before but how could I resist. I love this phone it is nearly perfect! I really don't have one negative thing to say so far about this phone and I have had it since Friday. It's small but powerful. Try it you'll like it!

Solution for No 3.5 mm headset jack!

Apr 22, 2008 by PocketMe

MOST HTC phones lack a 2.5mm or 3.5 mm headset jack.... That is a bummer when you want to stream music to your car stereo through the AUX input or to your home stereo!

But, thanks God, sony engineer a solution...

for only $79.99 plus tax... You can buy this baby:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11035425

It is not only a bluetooth receiver, but also a transmitter!

Enjoy the roadtrip with ur fave tunes or listen to TV using a bluetooth headset. Let the device do its thing!

With the right mods, it kills the iPhone!

Out of the box, it has rough edges. Windows Mobile is not a user-friendly UI. While TouchFLO is a step in the right direction, it is not enough of a step to smooth out the overall user experience.

That is easily corrected with TouchUI (www.touchui.com), a major-league improvement on the Windows Mobile GUI and completely free of charge! It is still in beta, but I've only had one minor issue with version 1.02b (clock doesn't update if you make it load on startup). Make sure you get the black version!

PocketCM 0.19b (www.pocketcm.com and also in beta) makes your contacts and SMS message functionality leapfrog the iPhone... definitely a must-have since it's also free. You can also skin it to match PointUI.

Another FREE must-have is the HTC streaming media player (google it). This enables m.youtube.com videos to play.

Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 is a MUST-HAVE! At $39.99, it's worth every penny and just thrashes the iPhone's lack of voice command.

Spb Fullscreen Keyboard is a good add-on, but costs $9.95

Once HTC and Sprint get that GPS/EVDO rev A update out to us, the Touch will become a near-perfect handheld device!

www.htcclassaction.org indicates that an update may be released within the next month that enables the onboard ATi Imageon.

Pros:
- Versatile
- stylish
- Takes videos
- MicroSD card slot
- massive 3rd party software library
- show-off with TouchFLO
- Camera and Album apps are easy to use
- Onboard aGPS and EVDO rev A update in the works!
- even with the added cost for software (~$50), costs MUCH less than the iPhone and does MUCH more!
- EVDO is FAST even before a rev A update.

Cons:
- No Flash for camera
- MSM7500 Chipset is a performance beast crippled by bureaucracy. Possible update is rumored for release within a month. (see www.htccalssaction.org for details)
- higher learning curve than the iPhone
- Lacks WiFi
- Pocket IE is a horrid Web browser (upcoming Opera mobile 9.5 looks to be the fix for this)

A Happy Let-Down

Dec 3, 2007 by pvtskiles

I waited for this phone to come out for at least a month, ordered it,then took it back within a week. It just wasn't the phone I was hoping it to be. I love the size compared to my mogul, the touch Flo interface is pretty awesome too. I really started missing my keyboard though, I had a hard time adapting to the on screen keyboard after having the full slide out qwerty on my mogul. It's a bit awkward at first when you type on it, there are two letters for every button and I found it extremely frustrating that it always loads the keyboard in T9. As far as the abilities of this phone I have to say it was great and I was really just upset about the keyboard and the lack of soft-keys. I'm a bit too much of a neat freak to be sliding my fingers all over the screen to perform operations. In the end, I love the idea and can't wait to get my hands on a touch dual.

On #5

Sep 27, 2009 by tarch

First of all, I actually like this phone. The form factor, screen and material are very good. I've been happy without a physical keyboard for a while.

However, I am going on phone #5. I've had 4 of these fail on me, all due to touchscreen issues. I have also had issues with the dialer pulling random numbers from my contacts instead of numbers I punch in. I have been blown away that Sprint keeps sending out these lemons.

I know this phone is a little dated, but I would recommend anyone to stay away from this phone. I am very hesitant going HTC in the future.

HELP!!!!

Sep 25, 2009 by Tisha09

I bought this phone maybe three months ago and now the phone is no longer a touch screen. The touch screen sensor went out. I restarted the phone because it locked up on me and now its stuck on a screen that says align the screen. What do I do?? I can't touch on the screen because it's not working and the buttons won't work for that option. Somebody please help!!!!
