Don't waste your money

Oct 14, 2008 by Kristen90

Alright, so first of all I'll start by saying that as a phone. I like it, it's cute .. has the slide out keyboard, etc.
But you'd think that as a texting phone there would be no problems with texting, right? Wrong.

I purchased this phone in june, within the two weeks it had lots of little glitches .. so I went in and had it switched for a new one. This phone had all the same problems.
I would go to text and nothing would show up until I restarted my phone, the screen froze, the t9 pad cannot keep up with my texting. I would have to text a section .. then sit and wait for the words to fill in before I could finish. And also when talking on the phone, if you get a text the phone vibrates on your face! that's soooo weird and everytime it happens the person on the other line gets quiet (because I hear it sounds like you have a goat making noise into the phone)
They told me a software update would fix all of this. nope.
So I sent my phone in for repair. They had it for 6 weeks, in the mean time my loaner phone (which was also a rumor) started doing the same things as the phone I sent out! While sent out they came up with a new update.
When i received my phone back I asked if the new or old update was on it, she told me old. Yep, that's right. they had my phone for 6 weeks to put on an update that i already had. So I sat in us cell for 2 hours while they put the new one on my phone.
Great, the texting problems are fixed.
NOW the screen flickers when I navigate the phone, or text .. and also sometimes when I hit the end button to exit out of something the phone powers off.
Went into the store and they told me they'd sell me a diff kind of used phone for 200$. yeah right.
Called corporate and they are overnighting me a new rumor.

Long story short.
After different rumors, and 3 software updates .. I am not at all impressed, I feel like I should be working at us cell because i'm in their store so often.

Bad Rumors: Confirmed

This phone is a total failure!

I bought the Rumor when it first came out and it was cool. Granted, the internet access is super slow, but the qwerty keyboard makes text messaging, email and interacting with web pages really easy. Many of my friends saw my Rumor and went of and got their own!

Then the problems started. The phone developed display errors, filling the screen with scrambled, multi-colored lines. The phone started just shutting off for no reason. It would be in my pocket and just shut off! I'd miss calls, messages and emails because the phone was off and I had no idea!

LG replaced it and the new phone started freezing up less then 24 hours after activation. The new one is actually worse then the old one! The phone just halts during operation (texting, emailing, whatever) and there is nothing you can do but wait for it to start responding again.

My friends ALL have experienced the same problems. Firmware updates, cleaning the battery contacts, or any other cell phone voodoo has failed to cure the phone of it's ailments.

The Rumor is just plain useless.

Don't buy it!

It is as cheap as it feels. The camera is not great, texts don't always come thorough. I bought one in Feburary and here it is only 8 months later and I have gone thorough 3 phones. I finally got a new phone. I couldn't recieve incoming calls called and have talked to tech services for the problem at least 10 times, gone into the store 4 times and still nothing. If you don't care about recieving incoming calls then buy it, but like most people the reason to have a cell phone is to get your phone calls.

Stay Away

I've sold both the Rumor and Scoop (yes, its the same phone but different company). When it first came out I remember my company had a lot of problems with the speakers in the ear piece going out. Several months later everyone seems to be having screen problems. I see at least 3 a week where the screen has gone completely out. In all, I've seen approximately 50-75 Rumors/Scoops come back with some problem. Also, while the Qwerty keyboard may seem nice, most customers never use it because they are accustomed to T9. This phone may seem great but it is not worth the hassle.

I hate this phone

I am very unhappy with this phone. My boyfriend and I both got this phone on a family package and we both are unsatisfied. When texting with the qwerty keyboard the T and Y are located right under the send button. If I hit those buttons too fast or text to fast with the keyboard it sends the message right in the middle. We both have also had problems with the phone turning off and back on. It mostly happens to me if I'm browsing the web. And last but not least the phone only rings when it wants to. At first I just thought I had a defective one but we are both dealing with these issues. I can't wait to get a new one!

Here is my opinion

I have had this phone since December and I would give it probably a 3. My reasons for that are very supportive. In May I started experiencing problems such as poor battery life, freezing, restarting, powering off by itself, etc. So I went to Sprint and they said that any Rumors made before May 25th where having issues with the screen going out and they`d be happy to replace it for free with new one. I have had it for 5 months now and I haven`t had 1 problem. Although I have grown quite fond of this phone and it`s many uses I am upgrading to the Samsung Instinct. For texting, this phone is a breeze, camera is shotty and really not up to standard for a 1.3, occasion dropped calls, but it is a very sturdy phone because I guess you could say that I don`t exactly take good care of it. If you were thinking about getting it then I definetly would reccomend if you like texting. Overall I am very pleased with this and to LG, good job!

RUMOROCKS!

wow, i have had this phone for a long time and it is great! I am a big texter and love the keyboard. very good reception and sweet wallpapers and ring tones! Not buggy at ALL! Very nice for the average/high roller that wants it all

Pros: Reception, keyboard, clear, easy navigation, good battery-life, awesome service, quick texting, nice lock feature, astounding performance, feels good and doesn't get fingerprints, not a big chunky phone as portrayed, nice main menu, a steal for the price and tons more

cons: (you might go over your bill texting because the keyboard is so nice)

IF i were you i would go and buy it now!!!

i live in canada and i am with solo moblie. i am a teen and i got a killer plan that includes text. anyway, back to the phone. i have had it for almost a day now and cant tell u much about duriblilty ans so on, but i can tell what i love and hate( nothing really)

Pros:
nice feel, rubbery and easy to hold
sends texts fast and types fast( qwerty keyboard)
good vibration and sound
comes with Lot's of backgrounds, screensavers, ringtones and games( demo's)
big buttons make easy texting, dialing
pretty simple layout
can make your own ringtones with recorder

Cons:
one end of keyboard doesnt light up as much as other side
quite thick
camera is ok but only in good light
voice memo recording is not very good
when i took of the protective invisibles cover( it covered screen and buttons) there was a little spot that looked like and air bubble( i dont know if this matters but i didnt take it of for a day)

overall this phone is great, especially if u love texting, or want a phone with a big screen and big buttons

Rumor: Great Album, Good Phone

I finally upgraded my phone plan and upgraded my phone along with it. I really like a lot about the Rumor and am not unhappy with it, but some features could be better.

The receiver volume is great, but the microphone could be clearer at times.

The media player rocks (no pun intended)! I like how I can scroll through to find the songs I want. This is much more convenient than my MP3 player.

The phone is smaller than I'd anticipated, based on other reviews. I have BIG hands and the Rumor fits nicely, but I was expecting an almost Treo-sized unit. It fits easily even into jeans pockets and isn't small enough to misplace easily.

The rubberized coating makes the Rumor very comfortable to hold and I never have to readjust for sweaty hands if I'm on it for a long time.

I've used a generic 2.5mm headset so far and the sound quality and volume have been excellent.

The speaker/ringers could be louder. I would like the speaker to be through the receiver instead of on the back because I lay my phone face up, and miss a number of calls because the speaker is blocked.

The display isn't great in bright, direct sunlight, but I am not in bright, direct sunlight for more than minutes at a time, so it's really not an issue. Indoors, the colors and contrast are excellent.

The camera quality is really good, but the 1-1.5 second delay means you will miss a lot of good shots if the subject isn't stationary.

Sending and receiving pictures is way easier with the Rumor than my old PM-225.

Texting. I can sum this in one word: ADDICTIVE!

It takes a few days to get used to no triple-tapping, but once you're used to it, you're hooked!

Overall, the Rumor is a great unit and I have no complaints about it.
