not a happy camper

Aug 5, 2004 by blackone

I had a samsung from sprint that served me well. so when i switched over to verizon i just wanted a simple phone to make calls. what a disappointment in this model. on occasion when i try to make a call i will get a prompt that will read invalid phone number then it will return to the main screen. then i will have to scroll down to the desired number and send again. the phone scratches very easy all around. dropped calls galore and times when i will wait for half of forever to connect when i initiate a call. the size shape and weight of this piece of junk are OK but thats all your gonna get thats worth anything out of this phone. do your self a favor. DO NOT GET THIS PIECE OF ZHIT. if i had any idea i would have been so disappointed i would have done some research before buying this chunk of junk.

I miss my old phone!

Jul 6, 2004 by Ariel

I made the mistake of purchasing this phone with out doing my home work.

I guess I was spoiled by my old phone and had assumed that every phone had similar options.

I was so excited when I first got this phone, it was so small and sleek looking and the ring tones were definitely different from what I was used to, I couldn't wait to give out my new number. Unfortunately, despite the fact that I had the volume turned all the way up on the ringer, if I was driving with the radio on I could hardly hear it and missed several calls. I was really disappointed that it didn't vibrate and ring simultaneously, like my old phone. So any time I'm driving and I'm expecting a call I have to drive with the phone in my lap so I can see the display screen light up when someone is calling.

It's been about a year since I bought it and the phone looks like it's ten years old. That's partially my fault, I'm incredibly rough on phones but about six months ago I noticed that the plastic molding beneath the screen near the hing had cracked and I can almost pull apart the upper half of the phone. A few months after, my husband showed me his phone, which is the same as mine, and the front display screen had cracked horizontally through the center. We can still see who's calling but I don't know what it'll look like a year from now when our contract is up. After owning my last phone for a year, it was crack free along with other phones I've owned.

Overall I'd have to say the durability of this phone along with the volume is horrible. The games and the size of the phone are great. It also makes for a good emergency calculator and day planner.

battery life

Sep 25, 2002 by itzme

Have those of you who are complaining about battery life even let the battery fully discharge and fully recharge it again several times? (Trust me, it gets better). And don't think you'll get any better battery life out of the Motorola T720 with its color screen.
Overall, the a310 is a good phone. So far, I haven't had any trouble with it (and I'm hoping it stays that way!) Like most everyone here, I think they could've at least put one "normal" sounding ring tone (i.e. sounds like an actual telephone, not something out of a video game). I've had three Nokia's previous to this one, and I find the menus on the a310 a bit harder to navigate than the Nokia's. The screen is large, and the indiglo color is bright, though draining on the battery. I also like the ability to choose various colors for the outer window to identify callers.

excellent so far

Just got the A-310 today, it's very easy to use and has pretty much everything you need in a cell phone. The "organizer" is excellent. I'm not too big on the verizon service, but this phone is by far the best that verizon has come out with so far.

Horrible

Apr 22, 2004 by LatinoTeen413

I'm a teen, so naturally I have a cell phone. And I think that this is preety much the worst phone you can get. Recepetion isn't good, I'd say its "fair". Calls frequently drop out. Battery Life! Now that is just the worst thing ever. I can probably get about an hour and a half on the battery of talk time. The backlight heats up if you have it on all the time. You can feel your cheek burning if you dont have it on one of the 7/15 seconds shutdown features(it all kills your batt. if you have it on all the time)
Ringers! You cant download them(no Get it Now) Im planning on switching too "T-Mobile"...I do not recommend this cell phone to anybody.

Degrades over time; Limited Feature Set

I bought this phone and signed up for Verizon Wireless service in October of 2002. The phone was pretty advanced at that time, with polyphonic ringers and such. Color screen phones were just starting to come out and were outrageously expensive still.

For it's time, the phone was pretty sleek looking. Illuminated in blue, it was fairly unique. The polyphonic ringtones were a good idea, but the ringers included are terrible. Absolutely awful. That was my chief complaint early on.

As time went on, I started noticing a few more pet-peeves. Occasionally when scrolling to a number in my contacts and pressing send, I get an error that says "Invalid Phone Number". The error then kicks me back to the main screen and I have to go back into Contacts, find the number again, and press send. I have never gotten this message twice in a row. I would say it rears its head at least once a day (with different contacts) which is a lot considering I make 3 or 4 calls a day. I know two other people with this phone and both have the same problem.

I use the SMS features for work and occasionally for fun. The phone sends and receives messages just fine, but the message management is terrible. If you're big into text messaging, this phone isn't for you. Texting on it is a chore.

About 9-10 months after getting the phone, people started complaining that they couldn't hear me for 1-2 seconds after I answered. They reported that it was just silent on their end. Eventually this degraded and my friends now report that they get a crackling sound (like I'm in the car with bad reception). Hitting the phone seems to fix it. Sometimes. I take good care of my electronics, so this is not from mis-use. The phone just doesn't stand up.

I don't recommend this phone. There are now much better phones available for cheaper than the $100 verizon is still asking for this phone (pre-rebate).

A310 decent, but it depends on where you are

In a strong signal area, the Samsung A310 is a fine phone, for those of you who don't want color. It has a small footprint, sound quality is good and battery is OK. But if you live or work in an area with only a medium signal, don't count on it. Where we live we only have a medium signal. An old Nokia handles it better. As soon as we go 50 miles in any direction, outside our immediate area, the Samsung is a champ!

DON'T GET THIS PHONE-BATTERY LIFE SUCKS

Sep 20, 2002 by D C

Let me tell you about this phone. I do not use my phone a lot. At most I get a few phone calls a day and talk for only a few minutes. I decided to go with this phone becasue battery life is suppose to be at least 2 days. My old LG was having battery life problems, so I decided to upgrade. Boy was that a mistake. I have only had this phone for a few days, and the battery life went from 2 days, to 12hrs, and today it only lasted SEVEN HOURS AND THEN DIED. What is worse is that I did not recieve any phone calls today, and I did not call anyone in those seven hours because I was in class. I could not believe that the phone could not last one day without charging, and I mean at least 24 hours. This phone is definitely going back, and I am going to get another phone, most likely a motorola. Sure the colors and features are easy and fun to use, but not for the headache that the phone will die on you if you use it a couple times during the day. So please don't buy this phone it is not worth it.

Sucks in remote locations

Apr 11, 2003 by Dle Wlnki

This phone does have a lot of nice features, however, its reception in fringe coverage areas leaves alot to be desired. Phone cycles from D with 3bars to NO SERVICE to A with 2bars to D with 3bars to NO SERVICE, etc. and will do this all day long until the battery is dead. Friends have other phones with same carrier and can make straight digital calls all day long. It seems unable to pick the strongest service. This phone might work great in a metro environment but out west here it just does not work. Am going to get rid of it tomorrow.
