Useful Features

Dec 21, 2004 by ps3156

I got this phone free from Cingular, owned it for approx. 15 months, and based on all the other reviews and peoples expectations, this phone is GREAT!!! (Don't confuse and lump into the same category the phones' features with the quality of the carriers' service - two entirely different and subjective things.)

Anyway, what made me write this review was because I'm in the process of switching my plan (but staying with Cingular). Naturally once again I have the option of getting another free phone from a list of several. However, I might stay with my Sony T62U because ...

PRO:
Voice Dialing (nice in car)
Voice profile (quick way to switch modes)
Voice memo (don't have to write things down)
Allow mult. #'s per name in phone book

CON:
No grouping/categorizing of phone numbers
(Friends, food, etc.)
No camera (but do you really need one of this quality?)

Good basic phone for rural areas

Dec 9, 2004 by radar1

I purchased this phone because my house is surrounded by rolling hills that shield it from most GSM towers. This phone has analog capability as long as you activate with a GAIT plan, and that allows you to use it when most phones don't have coverage.
I frequently travel rural areas of TX and OK, and the phone's coverage has been great. Although others have complained about problems with the phone, I have not had any major problems over the past year.
The only problem I had was when 2 of the keys quit working, but this was probably caused by lint getting under the key pad, and simply removing the cover, blowing the lint out, and replacing the cover solved that problem.
Reception and call clarity is great. The battery keeps charged about 4-5 days, unless I'm in a rural area where analog is in use, and then it uses up the battery in about 1 1/2 days. I recommend this phone for anyone that needs a phone for voice communication and does not need all the extra bells and whistles like cameras, blue-tooth, or IR.

Slow but usable

Overall this phone is an okay product. A few things to mention are the follow pros and cons:

PROS:

-Phonebook is easy to use
-Phonebook also allows multiple phone numbers per listing
-Voice dialing works better then my other Siemens S46 phone
-Alot of features are offered

CONS:

-The menus are not very user friendly
-Access to menus are slow
-Phonebook is very slow, I expect when I am looking for a number I type a letter and all lastnames with that letter apear not a delay.
-When you make a call by mistake when you hit cancel the phone takes a few seconds to disconnect.

Overall I like the look and feel of this phone but the cons outweight the pros so I don't recommend this phone for purchase.

Sony Ericsson t62u

The reason I bought this phone is that it has Analog capability. Despite what the carriers say, in northern Michigan, analog is often the only network available, and it will probably be that for some time. I'm happy to report that it works great on analog - very important for emergency use in remote areas. Some reviewers reported loud screaching/popping sounds. I have experienced that occasionally, and it does seem to loose its brain occasionally but I would say it functions as needed, first time, 90+ percent of the time.

What in the world....

I actually thought I got a great deal last year when I purhased this phone for $50 (so I don't have to renew the contract with the company). Well, was I wrong. The battery life is awful, barely get one day, even if I am not talking at all. If I talk for an hour, that pretty much means I have to recharge the battery. You have to remember to lock the key pad or else it will just dial numbers at random. Well, yesterday the key pad locked permanently and I can ditch the thing completely. Do not purchase this phone unless you are planning on a new phone in a year!!!!!

Excellent Phone

I really enjoyed my 62u. It lasted me over 2 years. I got excellent battery life with it. I would also get excellent reception no matter where I was.

I only had two small problems. When this phone came out other phones were already doing downloadable ring tones. This phone did not have that. The Internet on it was not great. If you are looking for a good inexpensive phone with great batter life, this is the phone for you.

seamless roaming GSM-TDMA

Sep 8, 2004 by woody54

CON: Had my phone for 10 days--it would drop calls when roaming between GSM and TDMMA--even when walking in a local Mall--and sometimes would enter "Cingular Extended" while walking in the Mall.(Cingular-Shreveport Louisiana)

Pro: Cingular Tech told me this should NOT happen, that SOME GAit phones in the past had this problem, but the problem has been solved.--Had me swap the phone for another, and so far so good. No dropped calls so far.

Question: Anyone know how to "lock" the phone onto either GSM or TDMA? And undo the lock when necessary? Cingular Tech hinted it is possible but would not tell me the code.

Over all I really like the phone, but would really like to "choose" between GSM and TDAM

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

This phone is probably the worst phone ericsson has ever made... it does have some nice features, but the setup is a nightmare, the reception is horrible, not to mention the phone is ugly...

pros:
phone has graphics
loud rings

cons:
bad reception
poor setup
not user friendly
screen hard to read
no good games/ringtones

One of the worst

Jun 1, 2004 by dieseluno

I agree with the last review. I have had this phone about a year and it has been the worst phone I have ever bought. I too have also been getting frequent loud, annoying beeps. Although it is a GAIT phone, it gets a poor signal, drops calls and to top it all off the battery life is short. Even cingular reps no longer recommend sony ericsson phones due to their poor reception. This one has got to be the WORST!
