Very good phone, not sure about the rest

May 3, 2007 by mthoren68

I must preface this by saying I just want a good phone, small package, a decent camera is a plus, and the rest (for now) is wasted on me. For that, this phone is very good. The biggest drawback is the relatively low speaker volume. The RAZR has good speakerphone and earpiece volume in a thin phone, so what's stopping LG from accomplishing the same? Otherwise on Verizon in Chicago I get excellent reception. The UI is nicer looking but still stinks, but I knew that going in so I can't penalize the phone. The camera works great, I have already transferred some pics from the micro SD card to my computer and they look excellent for a camera phone. I also considered the Samsung 740 and the RAZR Maxx, but the Samsung's buttons were too small considering I'm not a text fiend, and the MAXX: 1) Looked cheap 2) Was bigger 3) Can't use the external screen to read texts so what's the point? 4) Had the ugly UI; and 5) The RAZR is just plain played out.

Maybe I'll get into some of the other features (music, bluetooth) the longer I have the phone, but for the basics this phone is very good.

PROS:
-Looks - lots of compliments (this is so stupid and vain, but whatever)
-Reception
-Size
-Camera
-UI is at least prettier
-Improved speakerphone over vx8600
-SOLID
-Not the fingerprint magnet the vx8600, MAXX and other phones are

CONS:
-Speaker volume
-Vibrate is a bit on the weak side
-Case might dent, but others scratch, so...

Wow! Fantastic phone

I just got this phone and I absolutely love it. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great quality phone loaded with features while also seeking a great stylish and super sleek accessory. This phone definitely makes you look smart!!

The 2.0 megapixel camera is really great. I have already taken some very nice pictures!

Beautiful phone

I have had the VX 8700 for 3 weeks so I feel I can voice an opinion now. I definitely highly recommend this phone. I have nothing but delightful things to say about it. I mean not only it looks super cool but it was also really easy to switch and get used to from the minute I had it in my hands. I have actually convinced 2 of my friends to get it and they love it too.

The metal finish on this phone is really sleek and shiny but it does not attract smudges

Call quality and reception is awesome. I have no complaints there.

Key pad is so easy to use. Buttons are perfectly placed and spaced. It's very easy to use.

Awesome Phone

Just got this phone, but, after looking at at least half a dozen other phones, this is far and away a winner for LG. The exterior is sleek and silver, and the interior keypad is much easier to navigate than the Motorola Razr. You won't be disappointed with this phone.

A decent phone

Own the phone for about a week, from Moto 815, and I am happy with it. Being Moto user for over 10 years it required a little learning but not too much.

Pros:

Sound, blue tooth (pairs easily), battery (3+ days), feel, connection, screen quality, font size (too old to see small),
camera.

Cons:

Speaker phone can only be activated on a call and with the phone opened

charging door is a pain and will eventually fall off.

phone pops off belt clip

needs music controls on the outside

Voice dial needs work

All in all it's a good phone and easier to use than the 9400 because you don't have to swivel the screen to dial a phone number.

LG almost a home run

I am not going to bash this phone because I realize that every phone has its pro's and its con's. That is the way life is. First off, if you want a striking beauty to flash around town and to bounce the reflections off of your diamonds, this phone is for you. Even the white lighted keypad at night is 'flashy'. Hopefully, in the near future LG will give VzW a flash download to 'fine tune' some very few minor issues, maybe not. As I read further, some of the same things were inherited from the 8600. I guess we were in a rush to the convention LG.

Pro's - it's pretty
a very nice high resolution screen
it's pretty
somewhat good reception
it's pretty
interesting tones, and animated wallpaper
by the way did i mention, it's pretty?

Con's - CANNOT use the speaker-phone
unless you are on a call, so if you
trigger the lady that lives inside the phone when you want her to repeat the digit dialed, or repeat the menu selections clearly, -forget it. You can only really hear her up close to the ear piece. On the 9800/9900's, you can ear this lady even on a cloudy day.

Superfine is fine, but can sound 'tinny'
is that a word?

It will be interesting to compare this phone with the (four letter word) MAXX, but I am not a Moto fan, so I am not expecting a new revelation.

LG, please bring the loud lady OK? Not everyone has sonic hearing.

VERIZON IS CATCHING ON

This phone is amazing. It has an AWESOME QVGA display (crystal clear). An excellent 2.0 Megapixel Camera/Camcorder. It had a very sleek, brushed stainless look to it which looks very professional! Finally!, a phone that DOESN'T look like a toy. I have been very impressed with the service and battery life as well. I got this phone 2 days ago and I've only had to charge it once. And I use it constantly.

I highly recommend this phone to anyone. The price is a little hard to swallow but it is well worth it.
And make sure you get the insurance on this high-end, high-tech gadget!

More Quality from LG

May 4, 2007 by theattack

This is a strong candidate from LG.

Pros:

Screen Size and Quality
External Display is really nice
Good camera on the 2 mp
Nice keyboard, spacious enough, tactile feedback,
Thin and light
Quality Build, seems sturdy
Great Battery life

Cons:
Boring Verizon UI- just plain terrible
odd placement of the clear button, not terrible
no 2.5 mm jack- lets get standards.

I think overall the Shine is a good step for LG. Chocolate was cute, but too much complaining about touch sensitive buttons malfunctioning. My wife brought in her chocolate, and they said it had water damage- which was B.S.
Buttons are the way to go (you hear me iphone)

Overall a good phone.

Luv, not LOVE it.

May 3, 2007 by JonPhones

Well i luv it instead of Love it because of a few reasons:

Bluetooth, i've tried pairing with about 7 of my friends and i choose the send image option and for 6 out of the 7 of them it says that it's not supported. The only thing i can do is send name cards...woohoo. Other then that other people are able to send me stuff and some people can use their "get file" option but then that allows them to get whatever they want or delete whatever they want.

The reception bars confuse me a little with their half marks for the EV 1X, i don't know if it's just because i don't know how it works but it's a little confusing. Sometimes all of a sudden it turns into 1X, i think that's good though because it becomes full bars instead of 2 hash marks on top of each other. I've only had 2 dropped calls since i've had this phone but that's nothing because it was just because of my location. How the reception bars look is just a minor con for me.

Pros:
2megapixel camera spectacular coming from VGA
Metal Design
Unique UI to the phone instead of the boring Verizon UI, the wallpaper can be mesmorizing
Sound quality when playing music is GREAT
Option to make videos fullscreen
Personalized shortcut keys (arrows)
Comes with a nifty case

Cons:
Battery gets hot when on the phone for a long time but isn't that what batteries do?
No shortcut to lock the keys like on the LG VX6100, you have to go to phone settings then security and enter your lock code and then choose "lock phone now"
You can only activate speakerphone when in calling but it doesn't matter that much to me

Niiice!!!!!!

What a nice phone. I upgraded from the VX 8600 and love it. I was already satisfied with the VX 8600 but when a couple of my friends got the VX 8700, I could not help myself but upgrade too!!

Well, I don't regret it. This phone is awesome. It looks really modern, updated even beyond its own era so that you know it will be cool for a while!! (Don't laugh, it's important...)
