Good basic phone for basic phone users

Nov 23, 2007 by scooby214

We have two of these phones, one for my mother, and one as my backup phone. This phone is good for users like my mom that need basic phones that simply work well. Both of our phones are the newer t219s, which include the T-Mobile network address book backup feature, which works automatically (good for my mom, as I can login to my.t-mobile.com and add contacts to her address book for her). The updated t219s also seems to have better call quality and volume, plus it can ring and vibrate at the same time. The Myfaves software is also updated, allowing it to be minimized so you can see your wallpaper, while being able to press the OK key to bring up the Myfaves ring. The phone is quite responsive, better than the Nokia 6030 or 2610 when answering calls. The CSTN screen does look washed out at default settings, but can be improved significantly by adjusting the contrast and brightness. One good thing about the CSTN screen is that it saves battery life (this phone has great battery life).

One thing I would change about the phone is the location of the microphone. It is on the bottom of the phone, like a Nokia candybar phone, instead of on the front under the keypad. It still sounds fine if the base of the phone is close to your face, though some other Samsungs have slightly better sound quality from the mic because the mic faces the mouth. Words with the "s" sound are a bit more natural sounding with other T-Mo Samsungs such as the Beat, the t629, and the t409. It's really only noticeable if you do a side-by-side comparison by having someone call you using the t219, then calling using one of the other phones. The sound quality is much better than the Blast, which also has the mic on the bottom of the phone (though you can't get it close enough to your mouth due to the phone's design).

Overall, this is a good basic phone for those who want or need a nice looking phone with no camera.

SUCKS!!!

This phone is so gay. I had it for two days and said screw it. I went and bought the t619 (now thats a good phone. GREAT phone) Anyway, here:

CONS:

Ugly

Charger and headset are the same port

Backlight goes off in like 2 seconds

The shiny front of it makes smudges show up too much

Same exact thing as the X-495 or t209 except looks different and more expensive.

PROS:

It is made by the best phone makers- Samsung
