Just to let you guys know..I bought the 680 about a month ago and decided to return it. (Mainly because I wanted to use verizon service so I got a 700)
I also had a problem with the battery and when I called Palm to return it they were aware that there are issues with the battery life and they agreed to pay for return shipping. So maybe you should contact Palm and ask for a new battery/some compensation because it is a genuine problem with the phone.
Four Days and NOT Happy!
I got this phone in just four days ago. It has frozen at least twice each day, sometimes more. It has been so much worse than the 650, there is no way I will keep this phone.
It uses Palm OS 5. The freezing happens at any given time with no indicative warning but mostly during phone calls.
I must have a reliable phone for insuring calls go through and the phone does not freeze up during the call at any time. I had just called Flight Service for an instrument clearance before departing from a non-towered airport. That went fine except for him not hearing me clearly. That was not an issue with the 650 and both were used with an ANR headset with built-in cell phone adapter. After I verified the clearance, I attempted to turn off the cell phone in compliance during an IFR flight. The phone LOCKED!!! I had all of three minutes before my clearance was void so all I could do is throw it in the flight bag and take off. Once established at cruise, I managed to reset it and then turn it off. This kind of happening is not an allowable action.
Needless to say, the phone is going back. I'll start looking for an alternative to the 650. For now, 650 is a better choice than the 680 which I had assumed all the bugs were fixed and it would work perfectly.
The whole thing is truly sad. I love the features and I love the incredible software availability. It will be quite sad when I lose the benefit of the Palm software I own. One would think Palm could get their act together given the time it has been around.
