LG enV 9900 blows away this phone

Mar 29, 2007 by fullofenV

i read all the reviews and decided to go with the samsung U740 because its compact size. big mistake! the buttons were way too small. even my nephew with small fingers had a hard time with it. i found myself constantly having to hit the backspace button to correct the wrong letters being typed because my thumbs would hit two letters at a time. texting and navigating wasnt comfortable at all. also, the screen was very small(the same as a regular flip). i exchanged for the LG enV 9900 and life is good now. the keyboard layout is so so much better and the overall quality and build of the phone is much stronger. its much more user friendly and the size really isnt bad considering all the stuff you can do with this phone. my one big fear was the open front would have me mistakenly calling people when its in my pocket but so far its been great. it has a simple key lock that really helps prevent that problem. if you are on the fence between these two phones please i wouldnt waste your time on the samsung like it did. pay the xtra $50 and go with enV. great job on this phone LG!

amazing phone!

alright so ive had this phone for over a week and it is amazing its everything im looking for

the querty keyboard is a tad small but able to get used to. the sound quality on the speaker phone is good, and the battery will last me about ~3 days.

the pros are it is a usable PHONE, camera is good enough, sound clarity is good and the qwerty keyboard makes it easier to text

the cons; i have found none so far other than the annoying sounds to zoom or brighten the picture in camera mode, other than that it is awsome :)

Env is too big this phone is much smaller has all the same features except 2MP camera but who cares about that. the camera on this phone is a much improved 1.3MP over other phones. touch buttons on outside like the krazr make it better than the Env. qwerty keypad is more compact than Env it seems easier to text on U740. all pros no cons. this phone has more style.

just ok

I got this phone on 5-6-07 and will be taking it back today. The phone feels cheap, pictures are very blurry, ringtones sounds are horrible. I am going to get the LG ENV. Will let you know how i feel about that one

Samsung U740

Hello, I'll make this plain and simple and the reason my i'm comparing it to the enV is because Samsung made it for that reason.

Pros: Cool design/idea, but there is alot of getting use to. Camera is ok (i also added this to cons, because it could of been better).

Cons: Very ackword position to hold and that goes for the buttons as well. Very low resolution screen (especially vs. the enV). Hinges wear out very easily. Camera is ok. You need it fliped horizontal to be able to use get it now (not a user friendly position) and I know i've mention this already, but the buttons are killing me.

Overall: I'm keeping my enV cause it's a phone to enV. Sorry Samsung you tried.

SCH-u740 Why such a low budget screen?

Mar 6, 2007 by careytx

I have read all the remarks about how the u740 rolls over the en-V, but in reality the en-V is a better phone...it's just too large. The biggest downfall of the u-740 is the 176x220 screen resolution! Why?? Why build such a slick, compact phone...squeeze it all into the thinnest dual flip possible with a 2.2 screen, then finish it off with the lowest resolution screen possible??? This is so frustrating. Samsung's en-V offers 320 x 240 pixels and you can EASILY SEE THIS simply by holding up the screens side by side in the store. I challenge anyone here to take take simple test and disagree with this..Regardless of the fact that you can adjust the screen "brightness."

It's crappy

PROS: - Nice look

CONS: - you can only use applications and vz navigatior in landscape mode. who the hell has a clip big enough to hold the phone sideways on the vent of their car while driving?

- The buttons are too [...] tiny

- The buttons wouldn't be so bad if the phone was so stupid it disabled the illumination of the keypad during calls and applications. How the hell are you going to tell which button is which in the dark?

- Camera is nice if u hold it super still but my LG 8700 although it has problems too still takes a way better picture and has less idiotic limitations.

- Speakerphone isn't loud at all even with volume up.

- P is button is too hard to get to unless you got fingers like an anorexic chick.

I found that this phone is much long a FIVE STAR blond you wanna show to all your buddies. Fun to show off but as useful as a rash on your body. I almost blame the fact that it has Verizon's stupid universal user interface. Which is probably the cause but then again even Samsungs with Sprint and tmobile suck [...] too. Signal is 2/5 but i wouldn't recommend buying this phone. unless you[...] don't know rat [...] from rice krispies. you just wanna bling.

This is an okay phone. I don't like the phone or the maker (samsung).
Pros:
+ the flips
+ the size
+ the keyboard
+ the speakers
Cons:
- the maker
- the battery
- the talk time
- the camara
- etc......

what I'm tring to say is it is an okay phone.

Great Choice

I love this phone. I have had it for 5 months now, and the only issue that ever comes up is the battery dies pretty quick, but it's somewhat understandable with such a thin phone, and bigger screen.

Besides that it's wonderful, easy to use, great QWERTY keyboard for txting, better than most camera, and random features; stop watch, easy bluetooth setup, etc.

Although at the time of my upgrade I almost got the Voyager for the touchscreen, the Flipshot for the camera, the ease of use and how functional it is the Alias is wonderful. Not many other phones are this thin, have a full keyboard, but have the same talk functions we're used to.

It got a 4.5 not a 5 because a lack of menu themes, and since Verizon can't download new themes like Sprint, the same semi-ugly main menu get's a little old. And the alternates are the plain Verizon standards.
