Poor Sound Quality and customer service

Mar 21, 2007 by gearbot

Pros: Cost, size, appearance, display, reception
Cons: Sound Quality, Sound Quality, picture quality, bluetooth limited to only headset, file transfer options, and sound quality.

Yes, I was very dissatisfied with the sound quality. Maybe it is just the one I got but from the first call it was garbled and choppy even though the signal strength showed all bars. If you can't talk on the phone it is not much use to me.

The phone is very small and perhaps too small to squeeze a camera in to give you picture worth anything.

I was not happy with customer service from Cingular / At&t as they can not do anything the first 30 days. Brian Nolan of Cartronix in Schereville, In said he would exchange it but after 3 separate visits to the Schereville store he could not find one in stock or offer me a substitute without me spending more money. I am not happy about Brian Nolan's customers service at this point either.

Most of the other features I have not tried yet. Instead of exchanging it for another Samsung c417, I am beginning to think I should be looking for a totally different phone.

Very Disappointing

Constantly get "replace SIM card" message on both of our phones; very short battery life; prior SIM card on one of our phones did not populate the address book on the new phone; can't wait to get the iPhone.

piece of junk

I got my phone on 05/02/07 because cingular no longer supports the lg c2000 which is a far superior phone. sure the c417 has bluetooth but my headset was not compatible the h300. the phone has pretty clear pictures and good text message but you have to look at the phone to msg. someone since no raised buttons. like i said no choice for a different phone since cingular is backordered on the lg c2000, the samsung c417 keeps powering off and then turning on and doesn't send all of my messages and not compatible with my bluetooth so i'm going to call cust svc. to complain about it and get a better phone.

PIECE OF JUNK!

We bought four of these phones at Christmas. We were so excited because of the slim design and the picture taking option. Excitement quickly turned to frustration due to the poor reception and over all poor quality of the phone. As another person noted the speaker buzzes. I have Cingular service in Dallas, TX and the signal is hit or miss. I find myself saying "what, excuse me, please repeat that" more than carrying on a conversation. This makes me crazy! Now comes the worst part about this phone: The screens have broken on three of the four phones we have had for only three months! Two are the outside screen and as mentioned in another review they broke mysteriously in my daughter's purse and in my son's pocket. Seems to me if you can't put your cell phone in a purse or pocket without it breaking, it is poor quality. The inside screen is broken on the third phone. So here we are stuck in a two year contract, and you can't get "deals" on phones when you are in a contract, with three phones that are pieces of junk! Do not even consider purchasing this phone!!!
PROS: It looks good (I guess)
CONS: Poor Reception
Speaker phone not worth using
Poor overall quality

This Phone Is Trash

I bought this phone because it was cheap and vaguely attractive; a darth-vader aesthetic. Once I got it going, however, I realized that it was totally worthless. The speakerphone buzzes and has very poor sound quality. I know it's tempting due to price, but it is simply not worth your time. I am returning it for a Samsung slider asap.

Not to wonderful.

Cons:

Not the greatest phone i have ever had.

Recently dropped calls.Loses text.Freezes...alot.Turns off randomly.

Camera not the best...Takes forever to take the picture.

Pros:

Easy to use if you text alot.

Not hard to learn how it works.

Loved it the first day...not so much afterwards. Its an alright phone i guess.

My mother & I got this phone as our first cell phones.
After the first few weeks of having the phone my speaker pretty died.
You could barely hear the person on the other line with the volume up all the way.
Then my mothers phone would not let her check her voice mail.
It was saying that she needed to type in her password when she never even used one to begin with!

After getting water damage, accused of user abuse & having to pay 65 dollars for a replacement, I no longer have a problem with my phone.

BUT I cannot wait for my contract to be up so I can get a different phone!

Pros:
The best hand-feel of a cell phone I have ever experienced. I just loved the shape of this phone.
Easy to use buttons.

Cons:
Only one: reception. Calls were very choppy in areas where I'd normally expect to get good reception.

The story: I was thoroughly dissatisfied with US Cellular & switched to Cingular. My wife chose an LG phone & my son & I chose the C417. When we got home I compared the reception on my old USC phone (VG), the wife's LG (also VG) & the 2 C417s (unacceptable to me, but fine for my not-so-picky son), I returned my C417 & exchanged it for a Sony Ericson Z525a, which has great reception, but other problems, so I'm taking that back too. My son, meanwhile, loves his C417!

The phone isnt what it seems

This phone is actually quite amazing... If you dont like your contract and keep getting a SIM error go to a AT$T and they can put you on prepaid. NOW i know all of you are like "I DONT WANT TO PAY A DOLLAR A DAY FOR MY PHONE!" But listen, you dont. You can go with a simple prepaid plan wich is a standard 25cents a min and 10 for txt. sucks huh? Heres where it gets good... The features you can get (Unlimited text for $20 200texts for $5 500 for $10 etc) its really nice. And also, if your using cingular and running on a 3G sim card, for some reason they malfunction. If you are on AT&T then the 64k's wont work.... Its all just company flaws not the phone. The phone at first glance looks well, Average, You just have to know how to reveal its true beuty "HINT HINT" a data cable makes this phone SOOO much better. That way you dont have to pay for ringtones. OOPS i just revealed another secret about it, Using Limewire(TM) to download like WMAs and other ringtone formats you can use the software that came with your data cord and get free ringers!!!!! that is another thing this phone is amazing for. Downside to that? You cant use these for text tones. Honestly if you want wifi and like friggin PS2 games on your phone go pay $600 for an I-phone. Honestly this is problebly the best phone i've used. And I go through phones every few weeks.

Quality, solid phone

I have loved samsung for a while now. I have found Samsung to be a quality company that has yet to let me down. I work for a cell phone company and have grown accostomed(sp?) to phones that feature all the bells and whistles like my sony ericsson w600i. I picked up this phone and have to say that yes, although it is just a basic phone, it does everything you need it to do. Its small and light and when im going out and dont need an mp3 player or for that matter a brick in my pocket, this phone has held up well. I recomend it to anyone.
