T720 good, but not great

Jul 23, 2003 by Jon Locke

This phone has fairly nice graphics, but very slow response time on commands. Buttons are smooth and therefore difficult to find when not looking (i.e., trying to keep eyes on the road).

Again, I like this phone, but it could use a lot of improvement.

Complaint: Consumers beware!

Jul 21, 2003 by Gabriel Jacob

I purchased a T720i in April 2003. I love the looks/features of the phone. However, 2 weeks later, this phone started acting up. The screen would freeze up. I had to exchange my BRAND NEW phone for a USED REBUILT replacement phone. When I rec’d the replacement phone, it did not even work. As soon as I opened up the box and put the battery in, the screen was flashing/would not connect to the network. I had to exchange it again. When I received the second replacement phone, it worked for about a month. Then my screen started freezing up, flashing in and out. I had to take the battery out and reset it. I then rec'd a third replacement. I bought my wife the T722i (the upgraded version of the T20i) at the end of May. Her phone started acting up last night. At least it lasted 7 weeks. Her cell phone was ringing and when she tried to pick it up, the screen was flashing. The phone kept ringing. Usually, once you flip open the screen, the phone will answer. The screen was flashing and then it went completely blank. We turned off the phone and back on again. It kept malfunctioning. This morning the phone was acting up again. The screen was completely blank and the phone wouldn’t even turn on. We took the battery off and on several times. Finally, the phone started up. On the outside of the phone it displayed the time/date/ signal/ect. When you flip open the phone, the screen is black again. When you flip open the Motorola, the screen should come up and it should be working. I think that there is a malfunction; the phone is not recognizing that it has been flipped open. I talked to a Tmobile dealer; he told me that it is common for those phones to have screen problems. If that is the case, why isn’t Motorola doing anything about it? Why isn’t Tmobile doing anything about it? I feel like I got ripped off a lot of money for a product that is not doing what it should be, and that it is: HAVING THE ABILITY TO MAKE AND RECEIVE CALLS!

A little before it's time.

As an advocate for all Motorola products, it is hard to rate this phone so low. However, I carry this phone and it's terrible!

Signal strength is above average.

Standard battery is poor(as with most color-screen phones. Extended battery works good.

Holster is weak and not durable at all.

Here is by biggest complaint about this phone:
If you are like me, you do not power your phone off an night while you charge it. You simply plug the phone in and expect it to be fully charged the next morning. It DOES charge when you do this. However, at least 4 out of every 7 days, whenever you take the phone off the charger the next morning, it locks up. Here's what I mean: The outside LED works. It will even receive calls or digital message notifications. But when you open it up, it does NOT answer calls and the screen does not light up. I have to physically take out the battery and put it back in for the phone to function properly.

UNNACCEPTABLE

Garbage

After struggling with Verizon for months, and replacing my T720 THREE TIMES (due to dead LCD, "submarined" buttons, phone resetting, and battery issues), I replaced it completely with a Samsung A530. Stay away from this piece of trash.

Good color....good quality... short battery life.

T720 not worth the money.

Add these problems to the others reported. Along with very poor earpiece volume, digital to analog constantly switching, how about black horizontal lines across the display so bad you can't read it. Bring up a phone number in the phonebook and press the send button and it jumps down 4 entries in the phonebook and dials that number. SMS has a mind of it's own, even when it's sitting in a Verizon digital area. The standard battery is a joke and the charger you get with the phone takes longer to charge it than it takes to use it up. You can download your own pictures but can't store them to the phone. What's the sense in that. All ringers and apps cost money. I guess Verizon and Motorola decided that if you can't pay, then be on your way. On top of that, Motorola denies that there are any problems with the phone. I recommend that you not but this phone. It's now being dumped on the market for 99 bucks after a $100 rebate. If you have already bought it, take it back at the first sign of trouble. This is your only recourse on getting a different phone that will work. My first one (17p s/w and 50058 PRL) didn't show any problems until the second month. Then it went south fast. That screws you out of the 15 day return policy. I'm on my second one (2 weeks)and expect it to start acting up any day now. 19c software and 50069 PRL. If yours hasn't acted up yet, give it some time. Now you know the rest of the story......Good day!

moto 720 "big letdown"

Nov 2, 2002 by Erik Dreis

i couldn't escape the buzz on the motoral 720 and considering my less than stellar performance from my v60 i made the switch. This phone has been a complete letdown. The reception is dreadful for both the sender and receiver. constantly have an echoe on both sides of the call, and loss of service in a known cellular high reception area. The menu is very slow to navigate, and the color screen is weak at best. I was shocked there were no preinstalled games..even as a demo! I hope i'm not coming off as a motorola basher.. i long for the day when they make a phone as great as the old 8160. as for now...goodbye moto!

poor call quality made me return it

Sep 30, 2002 by jamesfrmphilly

i loved the style of this phone but the surprisingly poor quality of the voice made me return it.
3G or no 3G, the first order of business is good quality, loud and clear, calls.
i operate on the streets of the NE most of the time and i must be able to hear my cell ring and hear my caller over the traffic.
with my old cell i can, with the T720 i can't.
this may be verizon's fault for limiting the bandwidth for a call too severely in 3G.
all i know is i must have loud and clear calls
and this phone/network did not do that for me!

very poor performance

May 2, 2003 by john benton

second attempt for this model, changes to analog in a digital market, drops calls, will not complete call with full signal. clip constantly disengages releasing phone (poor design) maybe an aftermarket mfg will come up with a good clip design.

DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!!

Dec 6, 2002 by Calvin Lee

Im Sorry, but this has to be the worst phone that motorola has ever put out on the market. Currently i have the t720 but i'm def. returning it back to Verizon. I just got off the phone with Verizon Customer Rep asking her which phones comes up with the most issues..and guess what "T720" is on their #1 list. Obviously, Verizon is trying push this product off their hands and into end users like us, and hopefully in the forth and coming months they will come out with a patch to plug the holes. Let me list some of the problems and inconviences that I'm currently experiencing with this phone.

1) Reception bar fluctuates
2) Battery LIfe is the WORST!!! 1 day standby and a 30 min phone call and you'll be reaching for your charger. 60 bux for an extended battery.
3) Automatically turns to vibrate mode for no apparent reason.
4) Slow Screen Scrolling...SUPER SLOW!
5) Hard to Navigate
6) NO shortcut buttons for Voicemail..have to tab through menus inorder to reach it.
7) Banner does not work!! it switches back and forth btwn my custom one and the OEM Verizon Wireless Banner
8) Received Calls and Missed Calls is under one Catergory.
9) No Free Games....
10) Cheezy plastic door cover for the Battery
11) Can't adjust the ringer volume when the flip is closed.

I mean...I am a personal fan of motorola phones..but this phone really put motorola's reputable name to shame. Personally can't Verizon put their name on the line with this crappy phone. NO I don't hate Verizon, Verizon has the best service in NYC, but please for your own sake ..stay away from this phone!!!!
