T 720 Motorola

Oct 19, 2002 by Martin Miller

Volume sometimes low, but I use a speakerphone so it's OK. Battery life not bad for a color screen, although still waiting for a longer life battery to hit the market. Get it now feature is cool, just too expensive, maybe better for kids than business people.
I hope that any future downloads address the volume concern. Overall I like it. I had an LG 510 last. This is better and way cooler looking, although, truth be told, except for the constant replacement of the antenna, my StarTac was the best.

Great New Phone

Sep 24, 2002 by Doug Kaplan

Just got this phone and was very excited about it. Motorola has been behind in brining out new innovative phones. The phone is very nice, a little bit bigger than the V60, but lighter. Would have been nice to be a little smaller but still good. Screen is great, but useless without the backlight. The ear piece is almost loud enough but you need to find the sweet spot to hear properly. The phone works great and the menus are cool, a little slow, but cool. Only room for improvement is in the size and speed of menus. Overall great phone, highly recommended.

Why?

O.K... This phone might be good if it could wash the dishes for me... Your better off using this thing as a paperweight. I'd like to get one word out before my battery dies. Maybe if I could program half my phonebook in there without it beeping that it's gonna shut off I would be a little happy. I think motorola did a bad, bad thing here. They should have stuck with the startac. This phone might be cute and colorful, might even brighten up your day as a new purchase... but it is defenatly not worth the money. If your thinking about buying this phone, please save yourself the pain and agony. PLEASE DONT DO IT. What else can I say, this phone is horrible. I've never seen such a poor piece of craftsmanship in my life. I think K-Mart probably could have made a better product then this. The people who designed this phone should all be fired. I'm sorry if i've offended anyone, but im just trying to express my deepest feelings. SAVE YOURSELVES.

Do not bu this phone

I work for Verizon Wireless, and was considering purchasing this phone. I have asked co-workers, and customers about this phone. Everyone loves the features, but hate the battery life on the phone. Must charge the phone 3 times daily. Most have, or want to return the phone, but with the trade-in rebate cannot. You are better off waiting for the next crop of phones in November, and January. The samsung, and new startac have been getting high reviews. Lg is also good, but would wait until their color display models hit the market before purchasing.

Good

Good phone...too bad everyone has it

I don't know what everyone is talking about!

I upgraded our calling plan and purchased two T720's. I've had the phones for about a month now and, in short, I'm amazed by what this thing can do.

I've had absolutely NONE of the problems reported here. Software 19C and have had no issues with the text messaging or odd phone behavior. Battery life has been excellent compared to my old phone. Standby time is great (I'll get to that later). Great reception, have never had less than 2 bars signal strength. Great sound quality on the Verizon network.

I purchased two, one of them for my wife. It was a Christmas present that wasn't going to be given for another two weeks. I fully charged her phone from the store and decided to do an experiment. I turned it on, spent about 30 mins programming phone numbers, voicemail, etc. (so color LCD was active). Made about 10-15mins worth of calls. Then turned phone to silent and put it in the closet to test standby time. Phone lasted 8 days! How can anyone except the "die-hard need 50,000mins per week junkie" complain about that. To be fair, this is my first phone in about 3 years. They have come a long way and I can't compare it to other models so maybe its just so much better than the older models and not as good as current ones. I'll leave comparisons to those who have used the newer phones (v60,etc.).

Why so many people are having issues is beyond me. All I can say is that I am in love with this phone. Voice features work great. Internet, Get-it-now, etc. The only problem was it was that both phones were identical and we couldn't tell them apart! Oh well, time for some faceplates.

Pros:
Good sound quality
Great reception
Loud ringer
Voice Activation
Good battery life (compared to my old phone at least)
Faceplates
Easy to use Phonebook

Cons:
Low receiver volume (I can understand the complaints about that).
LCD glass gets dirty from putting it up to your ear (thats just annoying).

LOVE THIS PHONE

This phone is fun to use Can't stay out of get it now so much to do Love the ringer options and the games. I love Verizon service and the phone has a good reception with them never have a problem with a signal. I owned a v60c and this phone is so much more fun. Everybody needs to own one.

Just packed it back up!

After waiting several weeks, I finally got to try this phone out and after four days its headed back to Verizon for a return. The audio quality is drastically poor if the signal strength drops below perfect and at times I could hardly hear the my conversation sometimes in a near perfect signal strength area. The audio quality faded in and out and in the same places even after returning to the same spot again the next day in a normally perfect strength area. I lost calls often and even more annoyingly, it had a tin can sound. Even most of my friends said I did not sound as good as my last phone. (LG510) The menu system is excellent, with a bright color interface that is user changeable, but the back-light can only stay on a maximum 20 seconds and I find myself fumbling in the dark. Don't need that while I am driving. 20 seconds? Ridiculous! I love the ringers including the audible voice "You have incoming call", but battery life was terrible. Plan on purchasing a car adapter if you want to make calls and get through the day. I found no games said to be on the phone and you have to pay for the ones I did find. The wallpaper is not customizable to address book entries which seems to be a popular feature these days and although there are 500 number entries, I found only one voice number per entry and that won't do! The shell is quite light although it has a top-heavy feel to it. I also feel that the belt clip that comes with it won't safely hold the phone from falling out and the leather case I purchased covered the sound holes and made the audio quality even more pathetic. On both the car and home adapters the jack that connects at the phone is quite flimsy and seems that a heavy hand could easily break. I also called Verizon's tech support just make sure this phone had been programmed properly, but no improvement whatsoever. I wish that my experience were like some of the others I have read, but I can't wait to get a refund. Bye Bye T720.

Motorola T720 Battery Life STINKS!!!!!

Oct 3, 2002 by Joe Geiser

The phone has a great look and nice features; however, the battery life of the phone is the worst of any cell phone that I have had (2 Nokias, a Motorola V60i, and other Motorolas). With only around 5-15min total talk/usage time (in 90% digital), I am barely able to get 5hrs on standby. I have only been on the web for 5 minutes total. I have conditioned the battery (per sales rep) for an initial charge of 24 (full) hours before any usage. I traded the battery in for another, (being told it could be a defective battery), but am getting the same poor results. The battery meter goes from full charge to 1/3 level (1 bar) in less than 5 hours. This is with only around 5-10 minutes of usage time (in a digital region).
I also get worse reception (1 digital bar on the meter, or flipping between analog and digital) in the same locations as the the Motorola 60i, which gives me 3 meter bars in a head to head comparison (Verizon service).
It is the newest phone out there for Motorola (Verizon), but what good is it if the battery life stinks, or the reception is poorer? I know it is the phone and not the battery, because I am doing a head to head with a V60i, both with Verizon service.

A Surprising Disappointment

Jul 11, 2003 by Jessica Jones

Being a VZW consultant, I must say that I was as excited as any about the release of a new colored screen phone.
While the T 720 does have an excellent colored screen, the Get it Now capabilities, and the voice activated dialing, it does have a very poor battery life and the screen doesn't seem that bright even when the contrast is maxed out.
Sadly, I would not recommend the phone to anyone who would be annoyed by having to charge the phone once and sometimes twice a day. If the user plans on talking on this model for more than an hour, I certainly hope they have the charger nearby.
