Motorola RAZR V3m

I have a Motorola V3M through Verizon and recently purchased the Motorola Phone Tools software instead of purchasing the program that Verizon sells for $40. When I installed the software and went to register my phone with it, it does not find my V3M, there are many other types including a V3CM. I chose that as my phone since the V3M was not an option and it registers my phone and can see my phonebook, but I cannot transfer anything from my pc to my phone (ringtones, wallpapers, etc.) Is this not possible to do b/c it is a verizon phone or is it possible that I am just not doing something right. I called Verizon to ask them about it and they couldn't really help me, they just kept talking about purchasing their product.
