Does the verizon version of this phone have a mp3 player?

I was thinking of getting this phone, and I was just wondering if the verizon version of the phone has a mp3 player? I think that the website says that is does not. Any feedback would be appreciated!

oh no my friend, you read incorrectly. this is the v3m. the "m" stands for music. it comes with an adapter for your headphones so you can listen to mp3's. the v3c does not have an mp3 player(unless you hack it, of course). it has a memory card slot to hold your music so you're good to go.

just as an add-on to what was said above, the v3m will not have an mp3 player, but will come with VCast Music, which plays WMA files. 🙂

So what does that mean??? DO you have to buy music to play it on the phone, or can you transfer it somehow??? Bottom line-- can you listen to your own music on the phone, or do you have to listen to verizon music on it??

Whatever digital music you have, if it can be played on a MicroSoft Player 10.0 can be moved to the phone. The software and cable comes bundled with a stereo headset for $29.95 by Verizon. You will also want a microSD card.

you can do both. you will have the ability to purchase music thru the phone for 1.99/song. you will also have the ability to use your windows media player 10 to move mp3 files from your computer to the phone using something called a music essentials kit. you can also purchase music thru vcast music thru WMP10 (.99/song). with this though you will need to have a subscription to vcast music @ $15/month. hope that helps!!!

I work for VZW and I have had the sam 950 for the last 4 months--- just upgraded to this. BOTTOM LINE== you don't even need to use WMP 10 to put your music on it. It's only "crippled" so far as that it only plays WMA 9 or better. All you have to do is convert your songs to wma 9 (I've done this on linux, mac, and win 2k) and send them to the memory card MY MUSIC folder, then make sure the file names aren't too long and don't have any non-alphanumeric characters and you are good to go. WMP10 requires WINXP which is the whole Vcast music deal. If you like purchasing music then do this. If you have a collection already and want to avoid carry phone+mp3 player, go download DB poweramp and start converting to WMA 9---- xp with wmp10 will convert...

Ok, so I don't get it. I have a A970 right now and am thinking I might "upgrade". Do you transfer the songs identically, or do you have to use WMP? I don't really want to transfer all my music from iTunes. And is the "media player" or whatever it is any good? I am thinking its not. Thanks

it's basically identical, except you are going to have to convert all your music to WMA format (at least version 9) for the v3m to be able to play it. v3m cannot play mp3 or aac files.

But can it also play MP3s? Does everything HAVE to be converted to wma?

I'm a Mac man and would love to be able to play MP3s and not have to use Windows stuff...

it doesn't come with MP3 capability standard. I don't know if you can mod it to at all, and I never tried with my a950.

SO: You need to convert your music to wma format, at least version 9 (despite the fact that vzw system requirements say you need win xp to do so, you can get your files into wma version 9 on any OS pretty much). I use the program DB poweramp to convert my files simply and easily.

If I convert all my music to a wma format, will I still be able to play my mp3's in WMP10?

Is there a place that offers answers to FAQ's about this conversion stuff? (I'm using Win XP on my laptop)

Yeah, windows media player 10 can play either, however I don't use it- I use iTunes, and that makes it quick and easy for me to make copy conversions of the music i want to put on my memory card.

I'd recommend the dbpoweramp forums as far as conversion faqs. I've been using digital music and mp3 players ever since the napsters days so I've become an expert and the forums there are very helpful even to me.

I noticed in windows media player 10 that the majority of my songs are stored in the WMA format. Does that mean they can be moved directly to the phone's microSD card?
