First, read your manual.
Next, read this:

first of all, i am not idiot! I did read the manual and there is no mention of assigning ringtones and second of all, I am not trying to learn how to download anything, I need to know how to assign the downloads to people in my address book. thanks for the sarcasm but that's about all your reply is worth. 🙂

Go to the contact you want to assign it to and "view" then "edit" it.

Scroll all the way to the bottom - below the "picture" (for picture ID) and it'll say "ringtone". Mine says "default" - but you can change that to anything you have on the phone.

Hope that helps.

Page 66 of the manual:
New Contact Menu 8.2
This menu allows you to add a new contact address.
You can enter input contact address information
including name, phone numbers, email addresses,
group information items, memos, ring tones 🤭 , and image (photograph).
You have to select the Handset or the SmartChip
memory using the left and right navigation keys.

Did you get your phone from Cingular?

The first batch released in Cingular stores had a software issue that didn't allow for ringtones assigned to callers.

Try this. Go to Menu->Settings->Handset Information (Menu 9 *). Under Software Version you should see a string of numbers separated by dashes. If the third number is "V10a" (example: CU500-MSM3270100-V10a-Jun-04-2006-CW-US) then you have the old software. If it says something else (I'm not sure what) then you have the new software.

If you have the V10a software, call customer care and tell them to send you a firmware update over the air. That should fix the problem.

melissap418,
Peanutblue is correct in saying that you must first check your firmware version, the most recent one does allow for mp3 ringtones.

After you have confirmed that, when adding your contact just make sure you are saving it to your handset memory versus the simcard. The handset memory option allows you to assign ringtone and picture, the simcard option does not.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much peanut and griffin! You were so helpful and I did figure it out. I had my old sim card from my old fun so I just had to add new contacts to add ringtones to them...or I guess I could have just saved them to the handset, now I realize. 🙂

I appreciate your kindness so very much!
