World phones on T-Mobile?
This phone looks great, but I'm concerned about the quality of T-Mobile service in my area. How do quad-band phones work on T-Mobile - can I simply use the 850 frequency on Cingular's network whenever T-Mobile's network is bad? Would it be free?

Roaming will be free if you have a National plan. Also, you will not be able to roam if T-Mobile doesn't have a roaming agreement with Cingular or another carrier. They will not let you roam in places they have Native coverage.

In real life, you won't be able to roam to Cingular except where T-mobile has no actual network. T-mobile is fine overseas, so no worry there. If you want reasonable domestic service, buy the phone from T-mobile, cancel your contract, pay the termination fee, and put in a Cingular SIM. Be prepared to configure all the information to make it active on the Cingular EDGE data network. It may be a small price to pay, though. This will be the smallest Blackberry yet except for its old pager form factor.

well you actually forgot a minor detail in the process, hopefully if anyone tries this they'll figure it out...or just don't even waste your time with the process...T-mobile will be increasing coverage areas in the U.S. over the next year or two to be very competetive with cingular.

Thanks... I was dreaming that T-Mobile would allow me to use the Cingular network whenever the T-Mobile signal is weak. But given that T-Mobile does provide service in my area (and it's really bad, I'm told), I guess there would not be a roaming agreement for this area?
I will probably be able to afford the early termination fee and I like this idea. But has anyone ever moved a Blackberry between carriers? Obviously basic features like voice calls would work, but advanced features like streaming video or downloadable games generally don't. How about Blackberry service?

I can't say for sure, but I don't think Blackberry requires a special setup in the device itself. If Cingular thinks you have a Blackberry, it will treat it the same as others. What you do have to configure is the entire data access. What is hard to know is if the Samsung interface will give you access to the necessary settings. I couldn't find these parameters on my 8700 Blackberry, but who knows for now how Blackbery Connect is implemented. You can always buy it, try to find the settings, and return it if you can't.
If you want decent voice coverage, T-mobile won't make you happy. It's fine for data only if...
