Smartphone VS PDA? (dumb question)

I have the HTC Wizard (MDA/8125), which uses Windows Mobile 5.0. I know there is a difference between 'PDA phone' and 'smart phone'... so is the Windows Mobile on the Star Trek different from that of the MDA? I know with some smartphones, you can't edit documents. From the terminology used here (Windows Mobile for Smartphones version 5?), I can't seem to get a grip on the OS or functionality of this device.

The biggest difference is the smart phone has no touch screen or key board. This makes editing difficult but not impossible if the correct software is installed. You can get a bluetooth keyboard if you need(witch I have)but its not something I would want to use if I needed it a lot.
