Any questions about the 3125?

Hey all,

I know this is a new phone. I guess that makes me an early adopter. 🙂 I really like the phone. Does anyone have any general questions about it? I'd be glad to answer them. 🙂

Oh hey, here's something. I just read a review complaining about how "thick" the 3125 is, due to Cingular's custom battery. I would say that their modification added about 1/4 of an inch to the overall thickness, on the top 1/2 of the phone. I don't know if this is a problem for some people, but for me, I don't care at all, especially since it adds about 2-3 hours of use to the phone. Case and point, from a full charge, I've talked for about 15 minutes on it today, played about 40 minutes worth of emulator games, watched about 10 minutes of a show, and screwed around with it a bit (pictures, settings, etc). Probably about a good solid hour's worth of constant use (some of it heavy, like with the games). It's down to about 88% battery right n...

Here's another thing. Cingular or HTC (not sure who) was thoughtful enough to include a splitter with the phone, so that you can both charge the phone, as well as listen to music through the headphones, at the same time.

Not thoughtful enough to include a 512MB MicroSD card...but then again for $150, I guess they have to keep the price down. 🙂

How is the voice dial on this phone?

Do you have to train voice dial or no?

I am used to the newer Samsung phones that use Voicesignal 2.0. They are as close to perfect as can be imo. Speaker-independant and digit dial.

Ooh, good question! I haven't actually tried it yet. I want to say that my wife did, and if so, I doubt she trained it. I'll have to play with it tonight and see what it's all about. 🙂

Also, does the voice dial work over bluetooth (it didn't on motorola MPX220)?

The MPx220 had voice recognition and that didn't work via a BT headset. The 3125, like the 2125, uses a voice tagging system (you have to record the voice tags per entry) and it definitely works via BT headsets.

I can not seem to set the speed dial #s. It says to just open contacts, choose a contact, click menu and then set speed dial but it is not there for me. Any help????

are you going into contacts, and actually "selecting" a contact, selecting which # (mobile, home, work etc.) and then pressing menu, or are you just going into contacts and "highlighting" a contact and then pressing menu? to be able to "add to speed dial", you have to go all the way into the contact's listing & make sure you then highlight which # you want for the speed dial, then press menu.

another thing, at default i'm pretty sure about the first 6 Speed # positions are already preset (1-voicemail, 2 might be check minutes, 3 paybill etc.) of course you can change and/or delete the ones you want or dont want to craft the phone the way you want it.

personally its easier for me to just use the keypad letters to find who i wa...

I have a question!

This may be kind of silly, but nonetheless I need to know...Can you change the external display to show a digital clock instead of that funky looking analog? That's really the only thing I don't like about the phone.

Otherwise, my contract is ending this December and I'm going to wait till closer to the holidays so that perhaps I can get them to give me the phone with a contract renewal.

Somebody told me that Cingy will not allow you to just not have a contract with them? They said that you will have to pay more for your monthly account if you try to get out of renewing another contract? I've been buying my cells off ebay to get out of renewing, so that's how I've gone through 4 phones since the last one I boug...

Not sure about your second question; I'm definitely not the authority on that. 🙂

Regarding the external display, YES! 🙂 You can definitely change it. I personally like the analog clock (actually, the first one, because there are three), but you can also change to a digital clock display, and a display that shows the picture of your choosing, with the digital clock overlaid on top! 🙂

Is there a 12-pin -> 3.5mm headset converter out there somewhere for this device. (I've asked the folks at mobileplanet) It could easily double as a full-fleged MP3 (plug into FM Transmitter or tape adapter) if there were 3.5mm jack capabilities!! 😁

I've heard that there is not, but I don't know, I'm skeptical. At the least, I would say that if such a device does not currently exist, it is quite likely that it will in the near future, especially if this phone gains some popularity.

Ok maybe it's just me but the memory card slot does not look like it's for a Micro and the instructions say but rather a Mini SD. Is that correct?
...

It's definitely made for a MicroSD (I put mine in last night)! 🙂

Just remove the battery cover, remove the SIM, flip the cover open (careful doing this, the instructions on the back of it suck), and then slide the memory into the cover. Close it, replace the SIM, cap the batter cover back on, and start the phone.

Hexy, where did you find the emulator and the roms to go with it? Was it a pain in the ass to install and get running? And not to be a pian in the ass, but does it actually play well?

Can't say where, you'll have to dig (for all the obvious reasons). 🙂

It wasn't a pain to install or get running really. The hard part was finding one that worked. Also, you needed some DLL-accessing application installed as well. Once I got all that on and installed, it worked fine.

Speed for the 8-bit system is very good, about 90% speed in high traffic, to 100% speed in average and low traffic areas. With the sound off, the speed is almost always 100%. They are a lot of fun, much better than the stupid cell phone games that you have to buy, for sure.

I hear ya on hush hush rom part, but what I meant to ask was which app are you using. There are a few different emulators around and I just wanted to know which one it was that was working well for you. Any info would be appreciated.

The emulator is called "PocketNESter". You may want to start your search here:

This may be a very stupid question, but I got this phone yesterday, it is first time using a smartphone. So far I like it, except is there a way to make the phone ring and vibrate both at same time?? I am only finding options for one or the other.

Thanks.

Go into settings and open profiles. Open the menu and choose edit. Scroll down to ring type, and use the side arrows to choose vibrate and ring from among the settings.

Does anyone have an idea where to buy a car charger for this phone and don't say Cingular because they will ship you one for the 2125 and the nano connector is not the same size. Any immediate help will be greatly appreciated.

Probably gonna need to hit eBay, at least for the time being. Cingular didn't have anything when I bought mine, since it is so new. Go to eBay and look up a charger for the 3125 (or alternative the HTC Star Trek, or one of the other names the phone goes by).

Have you tried listening to the media player via bluetooth? Currently have an MPX220 and bluetooth is for phone functionality only... i.e media player only works via jack..

Also anyone happen to know if there would be an issue receiving emails from lotus notes or a blackberry server.. we don't run exchange..unfortunately

Thanks -Ray

I have not done this, but I have read a number of reviews that said this worked. The battery life will of course go faster when using Bluetooth to stream the MP3, but as far as I know, this does work.

Sorry, no idea on your second question. ☚ī¸

I got a Cingular 3125 in beginning of Oct. I usually keep it in my pant's front pocket and yesterday I saw that the front screen (outside screen) does not display any time or any other info.
I took it over to the Cingular store and they say that the screen is internally cracked and they cannot do anything about it. It is not covered under warranty .

Any suggestion? Is this a common problem with this phone?

Thx

strange, i talked with cingular 2 nights ago to find out how much it would be for me to replace the phone if i broke it. I then asked about phone warranty. The rep told me cingular branded phones had a one year warranty. Did the cingular rep determine that you had damaged the phone?
