Samsung SGH-i320
i320 to be used in USA?
I'm a big fan of the Samsung i320 which unfortunately isn't offered by a carrier within the US. IS there anyway I can import the phone and use it with an existing carrier such as Cingular or T-mobile? Below is an excerpt that may help, but doesn't provide much detailed or smart phone specific information.

I have used many phones that never made it to America and they have worked just fine. The beauty with GSM companies here in America is that you can just pop that sim card in, find the inet settings for your paticular carrier and you're in business. I have never had an issue with not being able to connect to the inet or unable to get my email. All you need to make sure is that you have an OS thats in English and you will be set.

a correction to what i wrote earlier...this doesnt have 850 so out of luck for GSM carriers as they run on 850.

Thanks for the info! I've descided to go with the motorola Q becuase of the service warranty, insurance, and parts which will be easily replaced if it breaks. As an FYI, I spoke to a cingular employee who said it would be possible to use this phone in New York, Penn, and other areas with the Tri-Band network. Unfortunately Cingular does not offer Tri-band everywhere. Didn't discuss the GSM network...I'm glad we got that covered.

Hey, If you were looking at the i320 samsung GSM phone but u got a Q instead, does that meant that you found a Q that works on a GSM network too!? cause ive been dying waiting for the Q to come to the GSM network rather than just CDMA... or did you just go with Verizon and not have to worry about that minor problem for those of us who are stuck on the GSM (which by the way is far from being a bad thing... just for that phone is all)

I ended up getting the Q with Verizon service. So far so good. Works great! Still wish i could have got my hands on an I320 though.
APparently you woudl be able to ship it over and use it with Cingular service, within most areas. However, when factoring in no warranty coverage, replacement parts being overseas, and no phone insurance, i thought the Q would be a better deal despite SPrint offering me a killer deal to stick with them upon account expiration.

The Moto Q is only available on CDMA (Verizon) thus far. I have the Q and even though it is ultra slim and nice there are a few disadvantages. 1. No cut and paste feature, which is a must for basic PDA functionality. 2. Can not be used as a modem for your laptop. 3. The so called "push" email is not real push like the blackberry. There's nothing instant about it. 4. Does not come with IM. Advantages: 1. It does take considerably good pics for a cam phone. Even is the dark the flash works amazingly. 2. The wireless sync for Verizon is really cool. 3. Chicks dig the Q. That said, if it does come to the US I am still going to get the i-320 because it does more and is even smaller in size.
