This is definitely an iPod destroyer. It's because of phones that have features like this beast that Apple has gonna have to come out with a phone of their own soon!

Eh, the chances of this taking market share from the iPod are just above zero. The dominance the iPod has is primarily due to the seamless flow of operation of the software. The clickwheel thing is nice, the small size is nice, but it's really the software combo of iTunes on the computer and an excellent interface on the device itself working perfectly together that's the killer.

For this phone to destroy the iPod, it would have to have an excellent interface for the device that doesn't get in the way of the phone fucntions, and have a way to get the music to the phone already programmed in playlists, or have the ability to alter those playlists from the phone. This is MUCH easier said than done.

Actually i have used sony ericssons for a while and i have the k750i AND it was a damn good music player little bit worse than an ipod. But i think since sony is putting their walkman logo it is going to be better than an ipod. Their software is good also.

I'm sure there are lots of people that prefer the SE interface to the iPod, and iTunes isn't for everyone. I happen to like the music player on my Nokia 6682, and since I have it with me around all the time, it's much handier than an iPod (esp. since the iPod does nothing excepy play music, while my 6682 and the w810 can do much more). But realistically, the number of people that will choose NOT to buy an iPod because of this phone are very limited.

Sometimes it's not about music. Nevermind the video, gaming, and everthing else you can transfer with an iPod.

I have a 60gb ipod and I use about 45gb of space on it for now (just music). I love my ipod, but sometimes I don't want to bring it everywhere, like the gym, and I would bring my phone. I was thinking previously of getting a nano, but if I can get this, then I'll skip the nano and go for the phone, that's my argument... 😁

sony ericsson's vision for the w810 is no to replace the ipod, it's to take advantage of a weak market; Phone Mps players. I've played with the w810 and it is THE FIRST phone ,other than the w950 comin out in Q3, that makes it practicul to have a large music library on your phone. with up to 4GB of memory, 10-12 hours of listening time and low price of $199(ativation or upgrade, cingular's picked it up) it's a great phone.

The software is NOT similar to an iPod, that's the whole point! In terms of features & capabilities from a hardware standpoint, there are tons of devices out that have the iPod beat, including this phone. But what makes the iPod such a success is the terrific interface of the mobile device to the home computer and the software on the mobile device. I've played with lots of different mp3 players & phone/mp3 player combos, and where most of them have shortcomings is when it comes to managing the music on the computer they connect to. The iTunes/iPod system works very well - Apple's market share & profits prove that.

But while this phone DOES intend to attack some of the market share, it can't truly be considered an ipod competitor.

when i said software what i meant was software between to to devices not the software stored on ones PC. the ipod and walkman interface on either companies devices are almost exactly the same. now PC software thats where as you said ipod kick @$$, but however sony is only a few stwps behind.

You guys have to remeber that this is primary a PHONE, and it will be in a completely different market than the ipod. It will eb placed in the phone market. The 810 is for people want the massive memory to play music, videos, and whatever else they want on their PHONE.
