Question about the Wi-Fi feature

I am thinking about getting the MDA and I had a couple of questions about the wi-fi feature. They are pretty in depth so bare with me.

1st question:
Ok, lets say I didnt have a wireless card on my laptop and I wanted to connect to wi-fi at a free location like Panera Bread. If I had the MDA with just a voice plan, no T-Zones, no T-Mobile web, just the phone, Could I use the MDA's Wi-Fi feature just like a wireless card without incurring any data or minute charges?

2nd question:
If I had the same MDA with just a voice plan, could I use the Wi-Fi feature to browse the internet on the MDA itself at a location like Panera Bread with Wi-Fi without incurring any data or minute charges??

WiFi on this phone is best used on unsecured routers (like at home or friends house). Panera, airports, and whoever else who has wifi you have to pay the fees. I am with Cingular so I can't anwers your second question.

You can connect to any unsecured WiFi network and you can connect to any WiFi you have the network password to as well. You can browse the internet with out a data plan if you connect to WiFi. For the modem part you should be able to connect to the WiFi you want and then start the modem to work off that signal. I haven't tried it yet but it would work in theory.
