Hmm...the first crippled bluetooth handset for a GSM carrier?
From what I just read off of the Cingular site, it looks like bluetooth will only work for headsets.
...
I've got a live model in-store, I'll check up on it and post back.
...
Ok, I checked up on it with our live model.
My s710 lists available services as:
File Transfer
Object Push
Headset
And Handsfree
Looks like the standard Motorola BT setup to me.
Yes I did try to transfer a file and yes it did go thru just fine.
No Crippling
...
Cool, I was going to cry. 😢
...
I got iSync to wrk on this phone and can transfer files via Bluetooth... I think Cingular used poor word ordering on the website... The only thing you can't do is iTunes!!!
...
You mentioned the s710. This message is about the motorola ROKR. Is that crippled?
...
I used the s710 to query an "available services" list from the ROKR E1. The services list that I posted WAS from the ROKR! I also was able to transfer a file from the s710 to the ROKR with absolutely no problems.
This phone is NOT Bluetooth crippled.
...
Excellent. Thank you for checking
...
Of course it's not crippled, we are not talking about a VZW handset are we?, 'cause then it would be.
To my knowledge, the only Bluetooth phone that Cingular carried that did not have the full compliment of services was the Moto mPx220(the Treo650 had DUN added in a firmware update).
And Cingular has had over 20 Bluetooth enabled phones, discontinued more Bluetooth models that most have even carried(except maybe T-MO).
If you are a Bluetooth fan, it has to be Cingular.

...
Uh, this phone is sorta crippled because Motorola disabled the EDGE functionality as well. 😈
...
eh, yes it will only work with a bt headset while making and receiving calls, and not for listing to music..but that doesn't make it 'crippled' in the traditional sence....as long as OBEX is on it (and posts indicate that it is) it will be like every other bt phone that cingy carries.
...
Exactly!
It's not crippled in the sense that VZW cripples thier BT phones.
It doesn't, however, include the stereo Bluetooth profile that would allow you to listen to your music over BT. VERY FEW phones have that feature yet. I would look for it on later ROKR models however, since it's very clear that (depending on this phone's success) the ROKR will become a line of phones, much like the RAZR has started to.
...
is it possible to add bluetooth stereo with a software update, once its more common?
...
i suppose this is the first ipod with BT - lol.
Seriously, their aren't many mp3players with stereo BT. Nor are there many stereo BT headsets, let alone one with a mic. only that one pair of moto's that are pretty expensive
