The only reason to have a cell phone is to call someone. Hell the rest is just window dressing. If the phone works well that is all that matters. I for one am sick of bitching about interfaces, crippled bluetooth, whether the phone rings and or vibrates at the same time, etc. Obviously to many of you, you don't care about using the phone you want to transfer files, take pictures, add ringtones, and play music. Well then here is a solution for you, get a computer to transfer files, a nice digital slr to take pictures, something for your ringtones, and an ipod for music.

They really are not just phones anymore, though. They're multifunctional "lifestyle devices" (as I've heard them referred to) that are designed for a multitude of purposes. Whereas previous they were designed to be "just for calling", they've now taken on many different means of communication, multimedia applications, informational services, etc...

Your way of limited thinking is very similar to that of the onset of the PC. Half the world embraced it while the other half didn't see the value, and so they stuck by their word processors. A word processor does one thing and it does it great, whereas a pc will do multiple things decently. Well, from there the technology develops. We're seeing it now with camera phones and web browsing. I mean...

oh, they have. I believe there are some models for Blackberries that you can order through RIM. At least, that's what my old RIM representative told me.

ok I understand why your posting this but then why aren't you carrying around a "free" phone... Carriers know that a phone is a phone and thats why they have free phone for people with this type of idea of what a phone is.. but for most of us on these forums a phone is much more than just something that makes calls.. Its a product that inigrates to our lifestyle.. size, looks, weight, & many more things go though the designers minds when they are developed.. I'm just tied of the designer making a great unit only to have a carrier like Verizon take out all the new tech stuff and then the carrier advertises that it is the latest tech with the best features.. Signal has always been first in my book and thats part of the reason why I worked for ...

I don't get your train of thought....
You say "interfaces, crippled bluetooth, whether the phone rings and or vibrates at the same time, etc."

None of that has to do with video, MP3, camera, or any other features that I also agree are unnecessary in a phone. But to use the interface, bluetooth, and vibrate features are all essential PHONE features. The interface needs to be easy to use to make a call... the Bluetooth is becoming necessary in many states for hands-free driving... and to receive a phone call happens to be a lot easier when it simultaneously rings and vibrates in some people's lifestyles.

Still just talking "phone" talk here...

OH thats another thing I don't get.... Why is VZW objected to allow you that have the caller ID in your car should up via bluetooth.. or transfer your phonebook to the car... these are basic safety things to me.. it defeats the purpose of being handsfree if I need to grab my phone search for a number and then press call

FYI I know OBEX is needed for this but thats kinda my point that verizon really needs to get in gear and accept the technology
