Is it possible to turn the ringer off without confirming sounds?

I tried out another Sanyo model once and it had a feature that I found very irritating.
There was no way I could turn the phone off without hearing loud confirmation ringer, which basically defies the purpose of silencing it. Imagine, if you discover that your ringer is still on in the middle of a show/meeting. There was no way I could turn it off without drawing everyone's attention (and not only attention -- dirty looks were usually included).
Does this phone have the same problem, or is it possible to turn it off without an embarassment?
Thank you.

i'm confused, are you trying to silence the phone and not get a ringer, or are you trying to power it off and now get the music that plays when it powers on/off. either way, just turn the volume down the "silence all" and the only indicator that you have a call and/or message is the little red LED that flashes. it even powers on and off silent ly when in "silence all mode" so either way, there's you answer.

Yes you can. You can disable the "turn off sound" in the settings. You can also first change the ringer to Silence All then shut off the phone.
