Does Bluetooth override the phone?

There have been several times when my phone has rang and, when I've picked it up using the actual handset and not the Bluetooth headset, I've been unable to hear the person on the other end. If the Bluetooth headset is on and detected, does it automatically override the phone and you *have* to use it, or is there a problem with my specific handset?

Check your bluetooth settings in your phone... if the bluetooth is set to auto-answer, the headset will automatically take the call after so many seconds.
