i am a T-mobile customer and can buy an unlocked SLVR phone to use. However, i only want to buy this if i can use the mp3 player functionality of this phone without subscribing to Cingular service. i just want the ability to transfer songs to the phone from my laptop (through iTunes, i have an iPod) and listen to them. Can I do this without a hassle?

Thanks

You can listen to any mp3 as long as you use iTunes on your laptop to transfer the file. No special service from Cingular is required.

Thanks. So why do they say itunes can be used from Cingular only? Is it only for over the air downloads of itunes?

I'm not sure why they say that. I just hook mine up via usb, transfer files, and play 'em.

They say that because Cingular branded SLVR's are the only ones with iTunes loaded on the PHONE. You can't upload songs to the SLVR through iTunes if the phone doesnt have the software installed in it. So if you have an unlocked version that you might have purchased from oversea's, I don't think that you can use iTunes to transfer the songs. However, the MP3 player will work, you just have to use something else but I'm not too sure how non-Cingular SLVR's work their MP3 player.
