Can you disable EVDO to preserve battery life on the vx8100

Sorry for all the questions tonite, but I am playing with the phone and new things keep coming up. Does anyone have insight on this? Also, my new, out-of-box vx8100 purchased on 1-16-06 came with v06 software. I see from an earlier posting on v07 that I am out of date. Do I have to go to the Verizon store for the new version or is there a download somewhere? Thanks!!

You have to go into a full-service Verizon store to get the update. It only takes about 10-20 minutes.

depends on what you've got on the phone and how many phones are waiting to be flashed before your's. mine took over 35 minutes just for the flash(lots of ringers!)

the only feature you completely lose would be vcast. it will slow down your mobile web and also your pix transfer times. as far as battery life i have no real estimate. i would say it's definitely worth trying though.

i recommend the "digital only non hybrid" setting which will let you access both the 850 and 1900MHz bands for the best call performance.
