lg 8100 discontinued?

pennstateguy

I just saw that on the website that the LG 8100 is no longer offered. I recently picked one up over the holiday season. My fiancée really liked the phone and went to order one tonight and saw that it was offered on the website anymore. I called Verizon and the rep. told me that she received an email today telling them that they were discontinuing them and that if my fiancée wanted that phone she would have to go to the store to purchase it.

Does anyone know anything about this? Also, what phone will LG be replacing the 8100 with? Thanks for your help guys!

Sorry guys, I made a typo saying that the phone WAS offered. I meant to say that the phone is NOT offered on the website anymore.

The new software /w MOD will be launching very soon. The LG8100 is also not available from Tier 2 tech support for FRU either. It should be back by the 16th.

What? Explain what the MOD has to do with it, and what do you mean by not available from Tier 2 tech support? When it comes back, what will be different? Sorry, so many questions and I don't mean to sound dumb, just curious what you mean.

The warehouse that Tier 2 tech support uses to FedEx out FRU (warranty replacement) phones is currently "out" of LG8100's.

MOD will be launching the 15th/16th. MOD requires the new software (v06) to be used.

My determination is that all the LG8100's they do have have already been loaded with v06 which they won't release yet.

yup, that is the word i got as well, I guess the software is already been loaded into the 8100 available at warehouse so they are not selling them until mod launches.

It doesn't sound like they are discontinuing them, just not offering them right now because the ones they have in stock have the V06 software for MOD loaded onto them and that isn't getting released until the 16th. therefore, they can't sell them until then.

I just picked up the phone during the holidays... How would I then get the update? Do I have to go to them or will the *228 work?

When the update is available, you have to get it in the store. *228 will not work.

They can do it while you wait. It usually takes 15-30 minutes, but could be longer depending on if they have others in front of yours. You can always leave it and come back if it's going to be awhile.

Mary,

it has V04 on it.

He's pretty happy with it, other than the fact that he can't get his mp3s and photos on the phone via bluetooth.

We tried emailing him a jpg to his phone and he can't open it either. What format does it need to be in?

To put MP3's and pics on the phone, you need to transfer them from the PC to the MiniSD memory card. Did you get a card and card reader? Do you know how to do this? If not, let me know and I will explain.

yes, I am quite familiar. I was trying to email the pic to the phone or transfer via BT. Wasn't aware doing so wasn't possible.

Hi Macgoddess,
Yeah, e-mailing the pic won't work, but if you want to put it on via Bluetooth and not from your PC to the card, you can do so by using Bitpim.

I'm glad he likes it! Are you referring to putting MP3 ringtones via Bluetooth, or putting MP3's on for listening? That would be two different things, please specify. I'm here to help!

putting mp3s on the phone for ringtones via BT from a PDA.

computer does not have bluetooth, only the pda does. So I moved the files to the pda to send via BT to phone and it wasn't working.

I don't have a data cable or BT dongle yet. (waiting on payday.)

I did download BitPim and am putting all the contact info into it so when I do get a cable/dongle I will be ready to sync. I have 286 contacts to move, so I have something to do in the meantime.

Not sure about moving stuff from PDA to phone. Not sure if you even can. I personally prefer to use a BT dongle w/ Bitpim vs. a data cable. I got one on ebay for around $10 w/ shipping.

The 8100 has not been discontinued according to the manager I talked to. They have the phones to be flashed with the new software and sent out then. She told me to expect the phones to be available in about two weeks. That would play into the 15th/16th dates that have been mentioned in this forum. Also, might be region related. I'm in DC, it appears in this reply someone said they just ordered one for their husband. Maybe that region still has stock available that has been flashed. Have to wait and see I guess.
