VCast Delimma

I've been trying to decide on a new phone for over a month now but it seems no phone has everything I want except the VCast phones. The problem with that is VCast is not in my area and probably won't be anytime soon but apparently you have to pay the $15/month for it anyway just to use the phone. I want a good camera, speakerphone, and BT would be nice. I've played with a vx7000 and liked it but no BT or speakerphone. vx6100 has speaker but camera isn't as good and still no BT. Why can't they make a damn non-vcast phone with the features of the 8000/8100 or atleast make it optional! Any suggestions??

Who, or what, gave you the idea that you would have to pay the $15 monthly VCast fee just to have this phone? If that's what you were told, I believe you have been given misinformation.

The phone reps at the 800 number and a rep at the local store both told me that. They said you can't even activate it without paying for the vcast subscription. It sounded like bs the first time I heard it but after confirming it with the local store I figured it must be true. Are you saying I can have the 8100 without paying for vcast?? Also, since vcast isn't even available here would that have anything to do with the phone working like any other digital phone?

whoever told you that is full of s**t. you have to pay the 15 if you want access to the v-cast content but the phone will work perfectly fine without it. tell them you want to speak to a manager if they try that again. i'm not sure if this is ignorance on their part or just commission checks dancing in their head.

you simply need to tell them you need yor account changed to premium access rather than national access. gentleman from customer service told me that. Since i was pissed that our area doesnt even have EVDO and a sales rep told me that. Just need premium acess

Right now Verizon is offering one month free of VCast, if you don't cancel before the month ends you will be charged $15 every month for the VCast service. You do not need to get the VCast service if you have the phone. They just put different code in the system to give you premium access rather than national access.

Opt out right away...it's easy to forget. If you don't live in a VCast area, there's no point to trying it out for a month.

The rep at the Verizon store told me the same lie about VCAST when I started shopping in May. I pressured him and asked him if he was sure - he said absolutely - couldn't use phone w/o VCAST subscription $15/mo. I belived him for awhile. I've had to sort my way through a lot of other lies from VZ reps (sorry, those of you that are honest,) so be careful. I think they prey on the uninformed. Another phone rep sold me the LG 8000 and told me my 15 days didn't start until I "activated" it. So I let it sit in the box for a week thinking my time hadn't started yet. When I found out he lied (he had "activated" it the day I agreed to buy it,) I couldn't return it fast enough! 👿 I've since taken my time shopping, and just bought the e815. I ha...

I called the local store yesterday after reading my replies to this thread. Theyd idn't answer, as usual, and I was transferred to the regional center. The super nice woman I talked to there told me it was a bunch of bs about having to pay for vcast. She said she just sent out 2 e815's to customers without the vcast subscription. She did mention that you have to change to premium access but that's free to do. She said she would note my account so if I go to the local store to get the phone the morons there can see that I already know the real story if they pull up my account. Then she chatted with me for 30 minutes about new phones, the weather, her beach vacation, etc lol she was great!

I've also noticed that some of the people are much nicer to deal with rather than the one's in the store.

You don't have to pay for VCast if you have a VCast phone. If you don't want to pay the $15 then don't pay it, you won't be able to use that feature, that's all.

Holy crap. I called the local store to see if they had the phone in stock yet and not only did the saleperson have no clue about the phone but still tried to tell me the VCAST package was required. I told her it was not and after arguing with me she put her manager own who continued to argue with me. I told the #@%@# to stop telling customers lies and check my account because the regional rep had noted it about this sitation. She put me on hold for 10 minutes then came back saying "apparently there was a change to the policy 4 days ago that will allow this". I asked her how did I know it 7 days ago but she had nothing more to say to me. That felt good lol Customers should not know more than the @#%@ing manager of the store! How many...

VCast is an OPTION. When you purchase a VCast phone, VZ has a promotion of the first 30 or 60 days of VCast for FREE. After that, you can cancel the VCAst service and, of course, keep the phone. If that were not the case, then how could VZ advertise their calling plan prices? It would have to state "$39.95 for 450 minutes with all but VCast phones, and $54.95 with VCast phones," if it were not an OPTION!!!

Well the reps here were "trained" to tell customers it was required to even activate the phone. That was her big argument. "You can't even activate it with paying for the vcast option". If vcast isn't available anywhere near here, I'm not sure how that was suppose to work anyway. I also enjoyed when she asked why I would even want the phone without vcast. I said because of the bluetooth, speakerphone, camera, stero speakers, expandable memory, and mp3 player (soon I hope). Her reply was "well my v710 will pretty much do all that stuff" in a snobby voice. GRRRRRR!

VZ's responsibility to the stockholders is to make money, money, money! Nickel-and-diming you and me for VCAst is just part of that strategy! Sure the reps are trained to sell VCast, as well as other options, but options are OPTIONAL!!! I'd simply take the free 30-day VCast trial period, then cancel the service before the $15 charges apply. They're not going to take back the used phone from you!! If that's not possible, then tell them to stop advertising 450-minute plans for $39.95, and change it to $54.95!!! Tell it to the Attorney General, too! VZ just loves class action lawsuits!! Let's go for the jugular!!!

Verizon Wireless doesn't have stockholders. The job of ANY company is to make money, otherwise it would be called a charity.

Making money honestly and stealing it are two entirely different things! What are Verizon's many class action lawsuits all about??? It's OK to have a profit motive, but not a ripoff motive!!!

Yes I have. I prefer LG phones and at this point I might as well wait and see how the 8100 is.
